We had two nights here to travel up and down the west coast. It was a great tip off point for both franz Josef and hokitika, but a little sleepier than hokitika, which we liked.

Five minute walk from the train with quick and friendly check in . Bedroom had lovely view of the coast and a small balcony . Bed very comfortable and coffee , tea in room . Stayed just one night but would definitely stay here again

A nice hotel room, that was spacious. There’s no air conditioning but we left the balcony door open and there was no road noise.
The hotel restaurant was good for both evening meal and breakfast.

Right in the centre of town short walk from the railway station. Good for the one night we stayed. Very clean and although breakfast wasn’t include we paid extra and it was very good.

When we first arrived at the hotel, our approach was from a side door. We didn’t realize that the building was being renovated and we came in on the wrong side, which looked rough. When we got to the new and modern doors, all was well and we found ourselves in a lovely, modern reception area. From the beginning, the staff were wonderful.

This is the second time staying at this hotel, and feel Copthorne Hotel should provide Air-Conditioning in their rooms instead of cheap fans. First Fan broke, second fan provided broke when plugged in, third and better fan provided did finally worked. Staff where very helpful, embarrassed and apologetic during this period.
Also what hotel does not provide early morning calls for guests, this one doesn't. Asked reception about two local attractions which they knew nothing about very helpful.

We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the room we stayed in overlooking the river.
The room had been renovated recently and was very nice. The staff were friendly and accommodating, we would stay there again.

The hotel is very dreary and run down outside. The rooms are fine but the verandahs are so small a chair will not fit there and the door is held on by a bolt. There are no bathroom guest amenities or many tea selections just black teas.
The bed is very lumpy and pillows the same.
We ate in the dining room and had some challenges with staff that were not trained in the menu or wine list. The food was just ok.
Certainly not even could be rated a 3 star hotel and overpriced for the room and facilities.
This hotel group should provide better standard rooms, facilities and restaurant.
