Stayed in a single room for 1 night and was very happy with the room. A lot more spacious than I anticipated. The bathroom looked new/renovated and worked well. Single bed was comfortable for the night. Staff were super friendly when checking in and out. Close to the train station (2 min walk) which was perfect for the purpose of my stay.

The hotel was great! It's a solid example of a proper Scottish hotel. Though the carpet on the stairs on some floors was showing its age, I honestly find that that adds to the character. I don't want a plastic perfect Scottish hotel. I want proof of people. The room I stayed in was the single, and it was a warm room, but the window opens all the way, which was so great. The view was nice as well from the 5th floor. The breakfast is affordable and really good value. I must give props to the in room amenities, especially the beverage station. The hot chocolate packet is a rarely seen gem, and it was such a nice way to wind down my evening. The shortbread wasn't the normal one you'd see, either, and it was delightful. I would absolutely stay here again.

We stayed here for two nights in a Classic Twin Room in April 2026. The biggest positives were the excellent location and the staff, particularly reception and housekeeping, who were genuinely lovely and very helpful throughout our stay. However, the hotel itself feels very tired and dated, with a sense of faded grandeur. Carpets throughout the corridors, public areas, and staircases were heavily worn in places. A major concern was the spiral-style staircase. The steps are extremely narrow on one side, yet the bannister is positioned on that narrowest side rather than the wider side where support is most needed. This made the stairs feel quite dangerous, especially when carrying luggage. We also heard several other guests complaining about this. The lift was also extremely small and very slow for such a large hotel. The bathrooms were clean and fairly modern, although basic and not especially well finished. Bedrooms were clean but dated, and the TV was tiny by modern standards. Drinks in the lounge/bar area were also surprisingly expensive. One particularly worrying incident involved a friend staying in another room becoming trapped for a long while inside the bathroom after the door handle completely fell off late at night. As he has epilepsy, this was especially frightening and highlighted concerns around maintenance and safety. Overall, the hotel has great staff and a fantastic central location, but it now feels in real need of refurbishment and improved maintenance.

Very difficult to move around the bathroom, the door hit the side of the bath when opened from the bedroom. We had reserved a dog friendly room, fortunately, we have a small dog because there was very little room for his crate. I suspect we were given a less adequate room, ( adjacent rooms I viewed had a better layout) because the hotel was catering for large groups and we were staying just one night. This was despite the fact that I booked it months ago.

Large central hotel with limited parking, excellent breakfast. The Hotel in general looks tired and a bit frayed at the edges. The room was clean, though the door rattled a bit, which we solved by propping a heavy bag against it. The room was very warm even with the radiator off.
