Gangnam Artnouveau City

The front desk people mostly were unhelpful. Seemed like they had a grudge. They should know English with so much foreign clientele. The gym sucked. On Expedia it says they have a gym. But, it’s in the car park , underground, no windows. There are 8 machines in all- half of them broken. The AC didn’t work. The front desk wouldn’t even apoplogize and didn’t have the courtesy of issuing me a coupon to a good gym one floor above. I paid for that gym daily and on complaining to Expedia, finally got two breakfasts out of them.

Dated property but close to everything in Gangnam. A bit pricey given the condition.

I’m always well taken care of here when I come to Gangnam. It feels like home away from home. One of the best values for money.

Front desk staff wasn’t helpful at all when we asked questions. Some of them not fully understanding English. Bathroom was smelled really bad smoking!

I liked how the hotel was in a quiet area despite being near the busy streets of gangnam. The cleaning staff, female receptionists were very nice and professional. The male receptionists on other hand were not. It has been around 30 years since the last time my father and I have been to Korea. We were not familiar with many things. I was very disappointed when I expected great customer service and respect from Korean establishments. At the end of our stay, they did not give us a tax refund receipt with the tax barcode. They said if we showed the receipt to the tax refund desk, they would refund us. The airport did not allow us to get a refund with the receipt given by the hotel. This is unacceptable. They have already received the payment tax from the government. We are furious. Why would they give us a receipt that does not allow us to get a tax refund at the airport when so many other foreigners have come and gone through this hotel? Beware.

They upgraded my room for free which was really nice of them. The stay was very comfortable and the staff was very kind.

Building and common areas was nice, however rooms and bathrooms were dark and dirty. Worn sofa and bed needs to be replaced as the springs dig into your skin. Air conditioning and heater are centrally controlled, set at about 78-79 degrees Fahrenheit, quite uncomfortable for a paid vacation, and analogous to having your mom trying to save electricity at home.

Gangnam Artnouveau is a older property and while it has a retro feel probably needs a bit of a face lift. But it was clean and convenient. The kitchen needed a new more dishes and utensils but we ate out mostly so not a great issue. The area was so convenient to the station and shops. Just a word of warning there are 2 hotels with the same name with a kilometre or so of each other so really easy to get the wrong one.

cigarette smell, really hot room, not comfy bed

Stayed for 9 nights, and then another 7 nights at different room in Nov. 24. Each room has a cooking facility (furnished) and a washer/dryer. My 1st room (and 2nd too, to a lesser extent) had an overwhelming curry smell; it took housekeeping 3 attempts to "de-smell" the room before it became bearable. The rice cooker was splattered with curry and so was the general cooking area: had it removed. But the smell never went away: the 2nd room had a lesser but still present smell. The staff was professional and very courteous, and so was the housekeeping. The hotel, at a convenient location was good; just make sure your room does not smell.

This is my 4th time staying there. My go to hotel!
