Cuevas del Cohetero was our base in Granada for a blissful few days recently. The location is a steep walk uphill from the town, and concealed behind an anonymous, rickety door just off one of the maze of cobbled, narrow streets. Opening that door was like stepping into a secret haven! The first thing that hits you is the size of the place:it's huge! A large, walled courtyard (which is not overlooked by neighbouring properties) is at the centre, off which the various features radiate. A medium-sized kitchen / diner is equipped with all necessary facilities. Next to it is a large living room within a whitewashed cave, protected by a sturdy and lockable steel door. Next, an identical door guards the ensuite sleeping cave, which has 2 bedrooms. There's some evidence of flaking whitewash, but this only adds character. Across the courtyard, a private terrace provides a billion dollar view of the Alhambra Palace, which will take your breath away! There's a small, stagnant pond on the terrace, which is m referred to as a swimming pool - but it really isn't! I'd not allow my dog in there, which is a shame because the heat lends itself to needing a plunge pool. Down some concrete stairs is a very contemporary, glass-walled bedroom with ensuite. There's been a problem that's caused several of the glass doors / walls to crack - also a pity, as this was designed to provide a real wow-factor. The place isn't perfect, but you won't care! The view alone overrides any downsides!
