What Guests Say About Their Stay

This small and charming hotel sits high upon the hill, overlooking a nearby village and the Oliphant Tea Factory. It's a quiet location, with stunning rooms - which is a welcome change if you're staying mostly in guest houses or big resorts. The staff goes out of their way to make sure everything is perfect, and the sounds and smells of nature were great - if you like the sound of birds chirping, this is a place for you. There's one tree with tons of them (they said 1,000 but I couldn't wrap my head around that). It's easy to drive or Tuk Tuk into town, and we got to do some additional walking by the village. Staying at Oliphant has been the accommodation highlight of our trip, and we'd easily pay well over $500 a night for an experience like this in the US.

My wife and I had a most wonderful stay at The Oliphant. It's one of the rare hotels which live up to the beautiful photos you see on the official website. Location: It's not very accessible so you need to hire a driver or rent a car. But the inaccessibility is part of the charm. The Oliphant is in a restored colonial bungalow that's over a 150 years old, and in the middle of the Oliphant tea estate. Accommodation: Despite the age, the hotel was recently refurbished and very well maintained. It has all the creature comforts and amenities you would expect from a luxury boutique hotel. Service: The service is simply superb. The staff are highly attentive and personable, and make the greatest effort to ensure that your stay is comfortable. We particularly enjoyed Keshavan's warmth and his sharing of life in Sri Lanka. Keshavan's colleagues (apologies as we didn't get all their names) were also wonderful and models of excellent service. Dining: We went for the half board option and absolutely enjoyed the food. Value: The Oliphant is not cheap. But it's great value for money compared to similarly luxurious accommodation in Sri Lanka. Overall: A splendid stay.

it was a wonderful stay for 3 days. just beauiful remote garden where you can spend good time alone with someone you love. nothing else to do. you might need a car to be able to reach to nearby city where you can get food and wash your clothes. i would recommend to rent a car (prefebly with a driver) if you want to go to different cities in sri lanka. they have a kitchen to provide food. but prices was at least triple of any good resturant. also no washing machine which is supposed to be there in such remote area. anyway, the place is not to miss if you are visiting sri lanka.

Beautiful colonial bungalow where the service and food are excellent! Only down points are the location; it’s in the highest village and therefore the access road is not the easiest to navigate making Nuwara Eliya less accessible. Also, we were in room 2 and the noise from the rest of the bungalow was very noticeable; the phone ringing in the evening and other guests walking around the corridors.

We had a fantastic stay, they room was superb and the bungalow is in a lovely peaceful location a 7 min tuk tuk from Nuwara Eliya town centre. The hospitality and food was some of the best we had in Sri Lanka. The curry was probably the best we had. Highly recommend

We stayed in 8 places during our 2 week trip in Sri Lanka and this was our favourite stay. The building and our rooms were beautiful. And the staff were friendly and helpful. Wish we could have stayed longer!

We had an amazing 2 nights at the recently renovated Oliphant Bungalow. We had a warm welcome and the staff are attentive and always there to help. The whole place is very tastefully decorated in neutral tones, with beautiful gardens. The room and bathroom is spacious and elegant. The breakfast and dinner was very good and everything is prepared fresh on site. There was a wine list but only one red wine was available and it would have been nice to have more choice. We enjoyed a 2 hour circular walk through the tea plantation behind the hotel. Thank you to Lakshman, Keseven, Mr Rathnasiri and the entire team there for making our stay a memorable one and we hope to return again!

A unique boutique hotel, converted from an estate owner's bungalow, in a village that is the highest tea plantation in Sri Lanka. The property itself is really charming and the staff incredibly attentive. We did an amazing walk up into the hills behind the hotel with gorgeous views and which yielded interesting snippets of the history of the estate. It's set slightly outside Nuwara Eliya so not easy to get down to the town without transport (although I believe tuk tuks can be arranged) but so much nicer than staying in town itself. It's relatively new and not so well known yet so a little quiet but definitely worth staying and you see a more authentic side of the area and get to understand the life of the tea picker and small farm holder. Owned by a larger group, promotion will be put behind this hotel and it will start to get known. Great for travellers who appreciate a more unique and peaceful environment and don't want to go with the large groups of tourists who are herded round Sri Lanka in big tour buses.

This place is amazing, as with all lovely "boutique" hotels it's the people that make the difference, everything was lovely from the food to the beds just perfect. The staff were wonderful.

We stayed at the Bungalow for 2 nights and had a really good experience. A little further out of Nuwara Eliya than other hotels, however only a short tuk-tuk ride away. Signage towards the hotel could be improved slightly, as it is a little off the beaten track! The rooms were of an exceptional standard, the styling was very similar to that of a Cotswold country hotel! The staff are extremely attentive, if not slightly too eager to be on hand in the restaurant at all times! Aside from this, a truly lovely stay.
