We stayed here overnight for my dad's 80th event. The hotel was recently renovated and the events team were helpful during the booking and setting up process. However, this is where it ended. This hotel is clearly under pressure to cost cut and it shows everywhere. For the event, while the room was set up fine, the catering was awful - woefully under catered and the quality was terrible considering the cost. We complained and we were told that they had been instructed not to 'over cater' for events, so they count out every canape (despite cancellations, there weren't enough). The canapes were so miniscule that even if they had counted them, they weren't enough for one per person. They brought out some more food but by that point people had got beyond being hungry. What came out was so low quality, it was like it had been dumped out of Costco onto a tray. The hotel room was nicely furnished but the energy saving lights are so dim you can't see anything, there was hardly any shower gel in the bottle, the bath was slippery, and the temperature was hard to control. There was a bottle of water and glasses with a plate left outside the room the whole time we were there. The worst was the breakfast though. There isn't enough space in the restaurant for the number of guests so there's a long queue. Then there is no food - same as the event the night before - just nothing to eat, and what was there was cheap and poor quality. Overall disappointing.

We had a lovely stay. The room looked like it had been recently refurbished and was in great condition. It had everything we could have asked for. The staff were all absolutely lovely and welcoming.

We stayed at Thatcher’s Hotel (part of Surya Hotels) for three nights during half term. Overall, it’s an average hotel but offers good value for money. The rooms have been renovated and are modern and comfortable, and the beds were very comfortable which we appreciated. However, there were a few downsides. The room was extremely hot during the night, which made it difficult to sleep comfortably. Breakfast was average — nothing special — and dinner in the evening was also average but quite expensive for what it was. The location is on a main road near a petrol station, so it’s not the most scenic setting. You do need to drive to find somewhere nice for a proper walk. It’s also worth noting that during our stay we were the only guests with children, so it felt more like an adult-focused hotel rather than a family-oriented one. In summary, it’s fine for a short stay and reasonably priced, but don’t expect anything exceptional.

Our room was ok but in our daughters room the shower was cold and we couldn't get any hot water. it was reported to the reception but nothing was done. Also it was on the top floor, we will ask for a lower floor next time we go.

Breakfast was limited and of poor quality! Sink plug was permanently stuck. WiFi was terrible. Window didn't close properly. Not good when near freezing outside.

I was very surprised to be given a room in a separate out building, down a flight of steps or a long walk down the drive to get to a ramp, I am disabled and have a blue badge, the only available disabled parking bay was near the rear door of the hotel ie a long walk to the room I was given! I did ask for a room in the hotel but was told they were all taken

Lovely old hotel with all the mod cons. Very comfortable rooms, easy parking and located close to West Horsley Place which we were touring the next day.

The service was shocking; I had to wait 8 minutes for a table. Then the waitress started by saying We are busy, you will have to wait for your drinks. This is not what I expected, then to top it off, I had to wait nearly 45 minutes for a bowl of porridge.

The hotel is in lovely grounds with easy access from the car park to reception. It is undergoing refurbishment and I think that will make it a very good hotel overall. The walk in shower was fitted to make it accessible, but the grouting is due for renewal. The lighting could be better in the room, plus a magnifying mirror would also be beneficial in the bathroom. It was quiet and the bed comfortable . I would recommend it for a short stay.
