Trains were cancelled due to an incident & we found ourselves stuck. The Cavendish came up on expedia as a good rating & so we booked 2 rooms. The staff were unwelcoming & unhelpful. We were given 2 box rooms at the back of the hotel looking into a wall. The rooms smelt awful - dank & musty. The facilities were old, the beds were like wood & you were afforded only 1 pillow. We asked to be moved & were offered an equally bad room in the same area. We were eventually given a room on a different floor, with a lesser smell, but same outlook & a bathroom that made cranking noises when you turned on the light. I would suggest not staying at this hotel.

Room was a lot smaller than expected (3rd party booking site shows photos from a variety of rooms). Room was very hot even with the small window open and (supplied) fan running. Nice to have a fridge in the room though. Staff helpful but not clear about parking registration/duration of validity

I had requested a room with a shower rather than bath due to mobility issues but was given a room with a bath. I understand they can't always accommodate and they did offer an alternative room but without a sea view. Positives: Great location right on the seafront Car park for a fee Staff on desk were helpful Beds and shower OK Negatives: The state of the hotel. Needs some major tlc, carpets were dirty and stained and have probably been there decades, the dust in the room on the heater and fan were inches thick. Windows dirty which spoiled the Seaview. There was no daily housekeeping and had to ask for extra pillows from reception as they only put one

Good breakfast buffet. Room has seen better days, rather shabby. We were on the 4th floor which was very hot, but there was a good tower fan which cooled things down. The shower didn't work, but reception got someone to fix it at some speed. Only the bare minimum printed information in the room - fire precautions, but nothing about facilities, or breakfast times.

this hotel is in a great location, right on the seafront a couple of min walk from the pier and only a 5min walk from the town centre. the rooms are large, and well equipped with a table and chairs, dressing table, large double bed and wardrobe with a hairdryer, iron and ironing board in the room also. the downside is that the hotel could really do with having some investment, while everything worked in the room it is dated and somethings in need of repair/upgrading. the shower curtain for example only covered 3/4 of the shower so the floor got wet when used. the shower holder was difficult to adjust and missing a cover. while these art major problems they are little things that drop it from a 4star to a 3star stay in my opinion. All that said for the price I would definitely stay here again.

The room has cobwebs so doubtful on how much cleaning is done in the room. Scuffs and stains on the walls, bed was on stilts nothing like the images. The carpets around the hotel are stained and when we arrived it also had a werid smell. I raised concerns and staff didnt seem to be bothered was told we could maybe do something tomorrow so I did my checkout within 10 mins of arriving and left for a different hotel which was a lovely clean hotel.

Nice building, I would have preferred a sea view but the view out the back is decent. There is a draft when the window is opened that is quite loud under the door. The staff were eager to help where possible

Excellently situated. Staff very helpful and friendly. Basic cleaning good but a morning spent wiping grubby door surrounds would improve overall look.

The hotel entrance is very pleasant and reception area The hailways and stairwell would defiantly benefit from new carpet or stain removal. The room was dated as expected, but it was dusty, had a broken lights, whilst we paid for a room with a view (not sea view) we looked out on the fire escape and a wall. It was fine for a night but disappointing The onsite parking is a great asset

Room was dirty, window and terrace filthy, however the downstairs lounges, bar and dining rooms were good. Anyone can see the hotel needs a good clean overall.

The hotel is old world , but badly needs a bit of loving care , but despite being a Britannia Hotel... it was fairly good. We were eating out , but the restaurant looked very nice. with good value prices. Our 'Seaview room turned out to be a 'Partial View' not Seaview as shown on website which comes at an extra charge of £15. Hotels.com needs to be more careful when advertising rooms... Seaview - to me -does not mean Partial Seaview.

Very spacious room, clean and comfortable. Need a shelf of some kind in shower for shower gel etc, made showering a bit tricky. Could also do with fans in room when hot weather. Building looking a bit tired but super location and clean. Would definitely stay again. Fridge in room was a bonus in the hot weather.
