I book this hotel for the location, as my friend lives a 10 minute walk away, l got there and was given my card door key, and was greated pleasantly, I went to my room on the 2nd floor, the room was dated, but ok as I would not be in there that long, l got myself ready for the evening, and I decided I would only take Bank card out with me, I left my wallet in one of the drawers, and then went out for the night I returned at 4 a.m. in the morning and went to sleep I woke up at 10 and got myself ready, I left the hotel at 10:50 just before check out, I gave the key he card to reception I left the hotel, when I got home I realised that I had left my wallet in the drawer so I called the hotel & ask them to look for me, I got a reply back saying there was no wallet left, so I've had to to cancel my credit cards, I was told if it turns up or is found they would get in touch with me I received a voicemail message saying that the wallet was found just outside the front of the hotel by one of the cleaners, also was told that I must have dropped it this was not the case because I never took it out with me.

Check in was at the partner hotel next door, friendly enough chap on reception. I was travelling as a solo female so it was a little intimidating to have the entrance door blocked by a man smoking on a couple of occasions. Perhaps a designated smoking area would have been good. The room was clean and tidy, bathroom cupboard sized but clean. Furnishings very dated. The bulbs were too dim in the room and bathroom, impossible to out make up on properly and the full length mirror was hung over the dressing table so you couldn't see your bottom half! This room was definitely decorated by men! Although described as 24hr reception, I left at 7am and there was no-one to leave my key pass with, hopefully someone found it in the foyer! I woukd probably not stay again but that was more about me feeling vulnerable on my own. Overall , value fir money in an ideal location for colchester town centre or the railway station

Lovely hidden gem of a hotel lovely owners my only criticism is my room was by the main road where you could hear everything and everyone and the joining doors to the rooms.

The hotel is very near Colchester town centre, which was the main reason (plus the price) to choose it. The building felt secure, and the room was decent size. The mattress was way too soft and bouncy for us, which resulted in not a great night sleep, and some of the pillows felt very hard, almost like sleeping on rocks. We quite liked the bathroom even though it was a bit claustrophobic, though it could have benefited from a lower step - even my partner struggled a bit, and he hasn't got mobility issues. Overall - not bad, though bedding, mattress and towels could certainly do with an update.

In all my working life I have stayed in hotels once or twice a week and in all that time no one has asked me for a copy of driving licence when checking in , but this hotel did and took a copy, when I asked why they informed the local police had requested them to do as standard practice , Totally unbelievable, he showed me two my room which was out the Maine reception area to what looked like a abandoned pup , through various security doors to arrive at my room , which looked like something out of the 60s , the toilet and shower approx 2meters by 1meter in what looked like a pod dropped into the corner of the room , which sat above a busy road . How hotels .com approved this hotel I have no idea , but I will probably start booking my rooms with another site , if this is what they think is acceptable.

Very clean and tidy hotel, the location is great and the service was nothing but *****. The decor was a bit outdated, apart from that I cannot fault.

The hotel was ok, but a bit dated and tired. It was mostly clean, but a bar of soap was left in the caravan style shower cubicle. The bed was very comfortable and large. The breakfast was very good (and I could have had two as no one checked)

The hotel is in a good location away from the main hustle and bustle of the town centre. However, it's just a short walk to the pubs and eateries which are in plenty of supply. The main tourist sites are all within easy walking distance. Breakfast was offered but as we had an early start the following day we declined. Staff very polite, hotel very clean and excellent car parking provided. Helios

The staff were incredibly lovely, the breakfast was delicious and not a bad price considering it is all you can eat. The only down side was that there was no air con, in this heat wave that we're having that would have been the cherry on the cake. Everything else was wonderful, the bathroom was very small but SPOTLESS so I feel like that's fair. The room was very big with lots of room and a large bed, a TV and storage. We only stayed one night but would have happily stayed for more. Colchester town centre is a bit rowdy at night, but I'm pleased to say that this hotel is away from it all!
