Laura was really nice and offered to switch rooms but we were too sleepy to move. Staff is always the best here. GRIPE- I think it’s a travesty, and maybe price fixing, to not allow online price matching to WALK IN GUESTS. This is my 3rd time staying here and I should be able to get price match. Hotels.com while i appreciate the great rates you give, the hotel should be able to match those rates for walk in/ return customers. You’re hurting an already struggling property. This place could be incredible with the restaurant/ pool back and a few room upgrades. Light sockets/ USB.

I blame myself on not looking at the reviews from others first. But we upgraded to the Chalet and it was absolutely nothing like the nice photos. Some rooms may be remodeled, but what they gave us was absolutely disgusting and I can't believe they actually thought I would want to sleep in it. There were stains all over the floors, including a bloodstain in the bathroom upstairs. The dishwasher had mold in it as well as the shower drain and air vents. The caninets and oven were disgusting. We checked in late at night after driving for 16 hours, just to have to leave and go somewhere else. Unless you do drugs and don't care where you sleep, maybe choose something else.

This property is really a hidden gem of a hotel. The rates are very reasonable and the area around the hotel is beautiful. The property even has a natural waterfall and a fern grotto which is extraordinary. The rooms are older but very clean and well maintained. Also the beds are very comfortable. The room also has a small refrigerator and microwave. All in all this is a place you should really consider. I know i would definitely come back.

So, first off, I slept well and the place was quiet. The staff was kind. The place looked great from the outside. It was also close to the downtown area, which was nice. Our room smelled. It smelled like smoke and smelled like old funk. To be fair, the staff did offer another room but we had already settled in and were very tired from a 12 hour drive. We stayed two nights and it always smelled. Also, it wasnt super clean. There were stains on some of the walls and ceilings. The bedding was clean. There are some chairs in our room that should be tossed. They're gross. We planned to swim as it was very hot but they said the pool was being repaired or renovated. It didnt say this when we booked the room and we should have been offered at least a discount or somthing for that but weren't. We were disappointed with that. The AC was good, though it smelled at first. The water pressure in the shower was good and the water nice and hot. Overall, it's not the worst place but it definitely could use a major remodel. But if they can't afford that, they should definitely take the time to deep clean their rooms. The previous hotel we stayed at was similarly old but it was so clean, it immediately made a great impression. Disappointed by the pool issue. You pay for the room and the amenities. It feels a bit like a bait and switch.

Convenient location and right price

First of all we were welcomed by Laurie who was not only very kind and sweet but also helped us get updated rooms near our friends. The newer rooms are fantastic, incredibly comfortable beds, very clean and nicely remodeled, great water pressure on the shower, spacious and quiet. We loved the historic nature of the place, we heard from the locals that the hotel was a favorite of the community and had a lot of history attached to it so it was nice to stay at a beloved place. We were near some cool train wagons and a lovely outdoor space that felt tranquil and very relaxing. We truly enjoyed staying there and will remember to come again if we're around the area.

We were really surprised at how uncomfortable the pullout couch was. Not to mention it was incredibly dirty. There was even a cigarette butt under the couch which we discovered when pulling out the bed. The main office for checkin also smelled like an ash tray.

The cabin was awesome. We loved the balcony the most. However, the was supposed to be a queen size but felt like a double. Also the bed was just awful. Everytime one of us moved the other bounced on it which kept us up most of the night.

Clean and Quite

Unfortunately, The Northern Queen has fallen into disrepair. I stayed in a chalet and it was nasty—there were gross stains on the couch, the carpet felt so dirty I didn’t even want to go barefoot, the whole place smelled of old cigarettes, the walls were dirty, the upstairs bathroom door barely closed, the deck was falling apart. The staff were apologetic and sweet, but the place was awful.

It was quiet around which was nice! Had a nice balcony with a good view! Wish there was a store on site, but it was ok it was nice to go out and see the area. Ended up at the Nevada City Farmers Market! Room was a little musty but once we open the doors and windows we got some nice fresh air in! I’d definitely stay again!!

Got there 20 min early. Made us sit in front of them at the desk for 20 min because if they checked us in "they'd have to charge extra". Ok. Maybe it's a computer thing. Room was gross. Stains of who knows what everywhere. Couch, chairs, carpet, walls. I don't even want to know what it was. Molding hanging off counters. Sliding glass door off rails. Smelled like cat piss and cleaner. So I guess someone tried at some point. Patches holes in walls with random paint colors over them. Like I don't even know what they're doing with this place. Not a single thing about it was acceptable except the staff were pleasant. Oh also the garbage truck bouncing the dumpsters around the parking lot at 7am was a nice touch.

Buildings are aging and in need of refresh but they were clean and the staff very friendly. Nice trail to walk on. Pool was out of commission as was restaurant. Close to town.

My experience was much improved this stay. My room was clean and comfortable. I stay once a month here. Thank you !
