A 3 star hotel in a central location. Rooms are well appointed but very dark and have seen better days. Extremely noisy at night as the windows are single glazed; you can literally hear the footsteps of someone walking by. Often late night revelers and early morning (8am) construction right outside windows so a very poor night’s sleep. Not your best option in Oxford unless you get an incredible deal.

Great location. Room was clean and spacious. No air conditioning, but there is a fan in the room. Windows also open for a nice breeze. Office staff is friendly and helpful. Bottle of wine was a nice welcome gift.

We went to the hotel for a night in July. When we first arrived the water was not running the bathroom. We were unable to use the shower, unless it was freezing cold. The taps were also out of action. We were advised that this was because of a pipe issue earlier in the day, but there continued to be issues the morning after. I also noticed marks and a deposit in the sink when we first arrived. The staff were welcoming and helpful, but I feel the room was not up to the expected standards. To add, it was a warm day and the fan provided was poor and noisy. It meant that we got poor sleep during our stay. I’d say the location was really ideal and close to amenities in Oxford. As for the breakfast, it was fairly basic and standard. I would recommend the hotel for its location. If you are searching for a luxury, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Another good stay at the Vanbrugh hotel for work. The location is great and very central if that's what you're looking for. Room is clean and good toiletries etc. Unfortunately the bed in room 3 was very uncomfortable and I could feel the frame underneath the mattress. Otherwise I could not fault my stay and I'm sure I'll book again soon for another work trip.

Excellent location and smooth check in with helpful staff. Unfortunately my room was next to a pub and was v noisy however the staff found another quieter room quickly for me. Issues with the TV remote controls in both rooms and the air con didn’t work and the room was v warm. Breakfast was an additional charge of £20 which didn’t include a cooked breakfast so not really worth the money. Overall hotel is in an excellent location but needs some attention to detail to justify the cost.

Good hotel right in the centre of Oxford with easy walk to the theatre. Rooms were ok and breakfast was a bit basic but it's the location that makes this hotel.

The top floor of this hotel is a bad place to be in a heatwave. Impossible to sleep. Two old ineffective fans meant that first thing in the morning the room was at 30 degrees. We asked to change rooms but advised that the one alternate was hotter.

We have stayed here on numerous occasions however this stay was disappointing. The fridges have been removed from the rooms and in the heatwave it was a disappointment. The upright floor fan didn’t do much good. There is also building work next door which starts at 7.30 am with a hammerdrill thumping through the walls. Not pleasant.

The service, room and location were wonderful but the bed was really hard. It would have been nice to know there was construction next door before we made the reservation. Waking up to the beeping of backing trucks at 7:00 am was a little much.

Hotel has no AC and no lift. We were on the top floor and it was HOT. Bed was so small and pillows were like rocks! Breakfast was horrible. Do not select this as an option. Dry cereal, 3 jars of yogurt, 2 bananas and some apples. Packages of cheese and a piece of ham shredded into pieces. Some bread, pastries from a package jam and butter. Juice in bottles, coffee and tea. Yikes!! Location is great walkable. But expensive for the quality of the rooms. Would have done better with an uber and a better room

Very helpful staff at reception. Room was great and exactly what we expected (maybe even more spacious). My daughter and I were able to have a relaxed evening and in the morning, it was a short walk to amenities in Oxford. Only two points to raise: 1. A hotel of this calibre should really have a parking deal negotiated with a local venue. 2. No eggs or hot options at breakfast made the breakfast feel overpriced. If you need to, charge a bit more but I would recommend these be made available.

The hotel rooms are lovely but have no AC and so the rooms were even hotter than it was outside. Fans were provided but didn’t cool the room down. Note also there are no evevators and suitcases need to be carried upstairs. The receptionist kindly brought one of our bags up for us.

Charming little house, and I felt thoroughly spoiled by the upgrade to a suite! Just wonderful. The reception clerk even kindly offered to post my postcards since I had to catch a train. Very kind staff, the three I met. I wish the windows opened more, but I understand.

Only good thing about this hotel is it's location, being right in the city centre. The room was very small; there was no air conditioning or cooling (just a freestanding electric fan); the shower room flooring tiles were broken in several places;

Property lovely and very quiet while being in the centre of a noisy city. It was a very hot night when I stayed and a stronger fan would have been good! Otherwise excellent.

It was incredibly last minute but the person on reception (I think of South Asian descent) was very professionaly and friendly and got be booked in quickly and he was helpful when I had issues with my key. I've stayed here before - great location, nice building and rooms, great staff. My only criticism would be that the WiFi was down for about 30 mins and the bathroom did not smell nice.

We had a one night stay at the hotel. Our room was clean. Floors abit wonky. Bed was comfortable. Check in and out was easy. Location good. Quite noisy with doors opening and closing and in the morning there seemed to be some work going on in or just outside the hotel which made it quite loud. Would stay again. No negatives
