I was initially happy to have stayed in Hotel The Nook about 1km away from the train station, as it was still very easy / quick to get into central Madurai ( I love walking everywhere) but much more quiet and away from groups of tourists. The staff were friendly and efficient and my room was very comfortable. Wi-fi, however, was very slow and patchy and when I mentioned this - esp as it's more of a business hotel - the answer was simply that as it was the end of the month, they must have used all their data and it would be better at the start of the next month. Not really the response I was looking for nor helpful considering I was departing the next day. What then happened was, as I was rushing to check out to make a sleeper train, they asked me for payment. I thought I had pre-paid via Expedia and told them this but didn't have time to go searching in my phone for the booking details (plus, as wi-fi didn't work, I couldn't access this information regardless!). I have consequently found out that indeed I had paid Expedia and so ended up double paying for the accommodation. Very displeased. I am now in talks with Expedia to get my money back.
