Our room was in the Lake House which is actually located behind the inn and restaurant up on a hill. Parking is tight and the walk up is steep. The room was very nice and the decor in both locations is beautiful. We were also fortunate that the room had a fan since the heat was in the upper 80's. Staff was very kind and efficient and rooms were clean and economical. Breakfast was actually quite good and well organized.

Definitely not a 4 star hotel! Beautiful location and on first impression seemed ok. The room itself was very standard in decor etc, but not very clean. The shower was mouldy and had long hairs on the tiles left from previous occupants.... Very basic facilities for tea/coffee etc. No fridge. Breakfast was also very basic and not well laid out. I dont know why they put a menu in the room when you don't order from it? We stayed in another 4 star hotel the night before for only a £40 more, and the difference was unbelievable. We will not be staying again - such a shame because the location is great

I had a fantastic one-night stay recently that turned out to be quite the treat! After a mix-up with our booking, the team sorted it out fast, and we ended up with two fabulous rooms that were spotlessly clean. The service was top-notch, with friendly farewells and great dish recommendations that made our dining experience even better. I really enjoyed the winter breaks package, and everything from the food to the sleep quality was spot on. Can't recommend this place enough!

We popped in for a meal during an evening, in half term, when we got stuck in Ambleside due to traffic. I rarely write poor reviews, but we didn't really enjoy this one. The pros...my husband enjoyed his steak and the waitress who dealt with the problems was friendly and professional. The cons... other staff seemed harassed and a less approachable. We ordered three meals and were warned of a half hour wait. No problem, we thought. About 45 minutes later, one meal came. The others had gone missing and, as it turned out, had gone to another table. This was eventually (and politely) rectified, but the meals that my son and I were given weren't very good. It wasn't even particularly busy, but it all felt a bit disorganised and chaotic. We just ate what we could and left as we were well beyond our son's bedtime by the time he had eaten some of his food. All in all, not a brilliant experience and I don't think we will be back when there are so many other places close by.

The staff here were very kind to allow us to come in for breakfast, which would normally be for those staying there. They provided a buffet breakfast which we paid for - so tasty! They have your typical continental and full English options as well as plenty of fruit. The decor inside is gorgeous and many of the windows overlook the lake in Ambleside as its perfect location is right on the front. We had a browse of their normal menu and their specials - it’s a shame we don’t live locally as it’s got a great selection.
