We booked a two-night stay at The Montagu Arms to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, so this was a special occasion for us. I would first like to say that every member of staff we encountered was friendly, welcoming and professional throughout our stay. Unfortunately, the accommodation itself fell well below our expectations. The room we were allocated felt tired, dated and unclean around the edges, with several areas looking grubby and in need of attention. It was also extremely hot, and the lack of ventilation made it very uncomfortable, especially during the warm weather. The room also looked very different from those advertised on your website. The images show bright, modern and well-presented rooms, whereas ours felt much older and lacked the same standard of décor and finish. Had we known this was the type of room we would receive, we may have chosen to stay elsewhere. We appreciate that we were travelling with our dog, but we do not believe this should mean being allocated a room of a noticeably lower standard. Dog-friendly should not mean compromising on cleanliness or quality. We also chose to dine in the pub during our stay. At £108 for two people, we expected food that reflected the reputation of the hotel and the price charged. Sadly, the meal was equally disappointing and did not represent good value for money. This Hotel hit all the spots for our small intimate family wedding for our daughter. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our rooms were perfect. The gardens were beautiful and well looked after a perfect setting for photographs. The food in the evening and at breakfast great and plenty of choice. A big thank you to all the staff.

Lovely stay, staff were super friendly and helpful, breakfast was really good - we just had the continental. Only downside was our room was above the outdoor patio and we stayed during a heatwave and a wedding so guests were drinking and very noisy right below our bedroom window - this would put me off staying again- in the new forest you look for quietness and meant we had an awful nights sleep.

You are paying for the location - and paying quite a bit. Room classed as a "snug" I'd agree.

Fantastic hotel with wonderful gardens. Great location for visiting the local attractions. Staff were welcoming, friendly and polite. Food in both Monty's Bar and the Terrace Restaurant was outstanding. Highly recommended - looking forward to visiting again.

Great stay

Amazing hotel, and extremely dog friendly. The staff were lovely and very helpful, the rooms were comfortable, warm and clean and the bathroom was amazing and a great place to relax after a day of walking.

We enjoyed everything at the hotel. The rooms are a bit dated but I didn't mind that too much - it added to the charm because everything worked absolutely fine (shower, TV, kettle). The dining room is very grand and the food exceptional. The staff in the restaurant were super. Most of the staff elsewhere in the hotel were very good and welcoming. However, the service at the bar was the weakest point. I think maybe the woman was just having a bad day but she a) didn't know how to make the cocktail I chose from their menu (which isn't had issue but did mean a bit of a wait) b) when she asked for guidance from a colleague he seemed to be quite irritated with her and it was made from a pre-mix (which surprised me for £16:50) c) I had to go back up to the bar to get it as she reached across the bar and said "here" which considering the bar was very small and there were no other customers seemed a bit 'off' - I think she could've just served it to us in our seats (as the other staff had previously done). She was also very abrupt to other customers and it just meant the experience wasn't very relaxing as these conversations were being had at volume in a tiny bar. We just decided to leave and go in early to dinner (which we really enjoyed). There was a new bartender in the Monty Inn and he needed help with processing a voucher - but unlike the bar in the main hotel - he was very professional and we were able to relax while he got things sorted for us. We were impressed.

Absolute gem of a hotel. One night was not enough, from the sumptuous breakfast, delicious dinner and outstanding friendly staff, we had a truly memorable stay.

The excellent service from all of the staff we encountered stood out for us.

We couldn't fault the service, nothing was too much trouble. We had supper in the pub and the food was delicious, so much so that we couldn't manage a full breakfast the next day which was a pity. We will certainly be staying at the Montagu Arms again. The location was perfect
