Our room was in the newer extension - slightly naff fake old decor but very comfortable, clean, shower was good, teas & coffees in the room with biscuits, with lovely views of the fields. We ate in The Jacobean Pub onsite - two courses each for £50 in total. I categorise it as good pub food. Seating area outside was lovely - really enjoyed sitting in the sunshine. Grounds were well maintained and pretty - the wildflower area had a lovely swing to sit on. Full English breakfast buffet was delicious as was the various fresh fruits provided - I made a fruit salad with yoghurt. Lots of choice including porridge pots, crumpets & muffins to toast etc Two public bridleways right out the gate - lovely for walks. There was a wedding on the night we stayed and whilst the hotel did email to say there was a function on and that the noise would stop at midnight - they didn't explain that you had to literally walk right through the wedding guests to get to our room which was really awkward.

Disappointing one night stop over. Its more of a business traveller, conference & private events venue than a country house hotel. Suite 15 is directly opposite the kitchen extractor fan which is on from before 5.00am until the kitchen closes at night & can easily be heard in the room. The room only had one bedside table & lamp, the glazed entrance is fitted with opaque glass & is the only window so there is no view. If you could see out you would be looking at the car park. The tv is old & has no internet connectivity. Drinks making facility was from the 1980's. The bathroom by contrast was excellent. You would never know all this from their property description & photographs. We asked to move but the only room available apparently, 28 I think, was a small double which was very dull & in need of updating. The restaurant is a fake pub where you are expected to order at the bar. Breakfast was good but the burger the night before was poor quality. There are no comfortable sitting rooms just function rooms. If you want to host an event here then maybe it works. If youre travelling for leisure I'd find somewhere else.

The suite I was in was very nice and clean. The room was quiet and loads of parking. Would highly recommend. The gentleman that checked me in was very friendly. The lady that checked me out wasn’t that friendly and was more interested in other things. But would definitely stop again.

This is an amzing gem of a hotel. I would 100% recommend it to anyone travelling North, just off the A1 between Doncaster and Pontefract. Really friendly staff and a brilliant room - excellent value for money too with an amzing restaurant. Breakfast was faultless too.

Very friendly, helpful staff made our stay. Breakfast good. Some accessibility issues but it is an old property. Our stay in a Superior suite suited out needs, was quiet and comfortable. Countryside setting but close to local towns and places of interest.

A wedding and its reception was going on at the same time. That puts their advertised "quiet room for guests to relax in" on the backburner as it becomes their overspill area - plus finding your room again, can involve an extra tour around the corridors to get back - as they will close off the conservatory. No matter and fair enough. Otherwise that breakfast was lovely - and the evening fare was either a pub pretending to be a restaurant, or the other way round - unless you wanted to sit outside: weather permitting.

Front desk man very good. Breakfast ok. Evening meal quite good. Room 22 Churchill bit out dated, has an aircon unit for cooling however quite noisy and radiator for heat, so not really air-conditioning as advertised. Would i stay again, probably not.

As always The Roger Thorpe hits the mark! 10/10! Great service and food. I spoke to a guest who had never stayied before and he said exactly the same! 5 star service, food and room! Great to support a local family hotel. I will be staying again very soon.
