This is a very old hotel and the fabric of the building is very tired. The public areas are all shabby. The bedroom was okay except the shower was mildewed in places. The dinner was very good, the breakfast not so good. £10 to park overnight in the hotel car park. Some of the staff were lovely, others not so good

I gave the hotel OK only because although our room was perfect, clean, well furnished, nicely decorated and very nice shower room, on entering the hotel I was shocked and had expected to be back at reception asking for a refund. The hotel is, I believe by the look of things e.g. plaster lying on the lift floor etc, currently undergoing some refurbishment but it has a very long way to go. There were cracks in the walls and wallpaper and plaster hanging off or coming away, skirting boards terribly unclean etc. I think it could all be down to, in some part, the workmen being around and trailing plaster and dirt as they go. There is no daily maid service, not that it bothered us for a 3 night stay, but all these issues i.e. state of hotel in public areas, work being carried out etc should be at least highlighted to guests before booking and, although being refurbished could make a bit more effort to clean in some areas. As I said however, our sea view room was actually very nice and clean thankfully and the staff were pleasant but did not dine/eat breakfast so cannot comment on food or service quality.

We booked through Hotels.com needed a last minute overnight in Oban. The pictures of standard double rooms looked ok. On arrival the outside of the hotel was very shabby & the car park full of litter. Inside wasn’t much better, the bar had been upgraded & looked ok but we didn’t use it. Reception gave us our key & we went to our room it was nothing like the photos on Hotels.com it was very shabby, dated, depressing & awful. We went back to reception & said it wasn’t what we were expecting they tried to tell us the photos were of rooms in their Bespoke chain of hotels. I said that they were misleading & we had been mid sold. They gave us a key to another room for us to look at saying we would like it. It was worse than the first one. Back to reception we went & said it was worse they informed us the hotel was under renovation & we couldn’t expect a room like on Hotels.com but they gave us another key & took us to look, it had been modernised & was slightly like the ones in the picture but it was still shabby, old window, stains on carpet, scuffed walls & woodwork not what we are used to. We stayed but would not recommend or stay again. If I were Hotdls.com I would remove it from the website as it is not fit for purpose & is very undesirable accommodation.

We booked a family room for 2 adults and 1 child. We arrived and the place was undergoing renovation. We got to our room and it smelled so bad, the place is clearly dog friendly which is fine however the room smelled awfully like wet dog. The bathroom was even worse, it was hard enough to spend a couple minutes in there, there was no way I could have stood for a shower. The gentleman on the front desk did try and spray the whole room with air freshener when we complained but the sickly sweet smell mixed with the awful existing smell just made it worse. It was dated; the bathroom was like going back to the 80s. There were cobwebs everywhere and holes in the walls, as well as plug sockets coming away from the wall. We were offered complimentary breakfast to make up for it all but we left in the end and didn't stay because it was so bad. They initially refused to refund us as well and we had to go through the credit card company; they sorted it once it was raised through them. It's such a shame as it has potential to be great. I'm glad to see it's being renovated and perhaps it will be far better once it's finished but until then I wouldn't recommend staying there.

Room was terrible, drab, boring, paint peeling, shower screen old and needing replaced, actual shower average. Bed was we're sure a queen. Only decent thing was breakfast. But this was definately the worst hotel we've stayed in, will not be back.

Comfortable bed and a recently renovated bathroom. Some of the common areas need renovation. Limited parking at £10 per day. Easy/sort walk to downtown and the Oban Distillery. Price paid was fair for a property like this.

Worst hotel experience i have ever had. Asked for a family room, was given a cubicle and a storage. No windows, no fan. Smelled of cat urine, horrible mattress, pillows flat and uncomfortable. Breakfast brand with staff frowning at you. Overall worst hotel ever!

Room was in a poor state. Bed was clean. Windows would not open correctly. We used a deodorant canister to open the bathroom window. The bedroom window had scaffolding in place and there was no apparent work going on. The bedroom curtains did not close, therefore light came through. A complete renovation is needed on what would have been a beautiful building about 60 years ago as it has beautiful high ceilings with lovely cornices. Stairwell needs attention and the lift was grubby. A pity as this hotel has real potential.

Great location overlooking Oban bay. Room was a bit tired, but comfortable and clean. Quick check-in and friendly staff. If you are travelling by car, worth looking at the car park just 100 metres to right of hotel.

This is an old hotel. It has its faults and is tired. But to us this added to its ambience and all round charm. It is undergoing repairs so you have to roll with it. Breakfast was fine.

The rooms were small, but adequate. The staff was fantastic! The room was quite hot (no AC), but the front desk staff offered a fan immediately to be brought to our room….what a difference that made. The mattress was also very comfortable. We would stay here again.

Grand old hotel in need of major renovation, aged and in poor condition. Bar staff was not interested in serving and quite rude in stating that only those residents who had reserved tables would be accompanied for an evening meal. Rom had sloping floor in bathroom and toilet fixed at an angle to the wall, large room with regular bed and back furniture. We had booked a “sea view” room but the state of the windows with dirt, paint & putty stain did obscure the view. There is a hotel car park but be aware you have to pay an additional £10 to park there. They charge £20 per dog per night but to be honest I would not want my dog to stay in this property as it is to unclean for them, even our room smelt of dog & urine on arrival so the additional cost is not used to cover additional cleaning. For the cost of this hotel, Thayer are far better options and I would say it was only worth half the price and had the poorest breakfast in terms of wuality of ingredients

The Hotel has a brilliant breakfast. Our room no.130 was right above the kitchen extractors (perhaps payback as I moaned they didn't respond to messages). It was like sleeping next to a jet engine or rather not sleeping. It was expensive and as we chose it for a location but by time we left we were exhausted due to lack of sleep due to the noise and extractor vibration. Our view was a slate roof, just a slate roof towering above the window so pointless even having a window. For just over £150 for one night with breakfast it was extortionate, but it was a good breakfast and staff were lovely.
