+: bed was super comfy, good sheets, the AC working well, spacious enough for 1 or 2 people. I liked the breakfast. -: if arriving before check-in, you have nowhere to go as all communal areas are “under cleaning”. The room itself wasn’t super clean, dust and hair in many places. The double bed room I had was okay but a lot of fixing needed. Wifi was quite spotty, sometimes working, sometimes not. Weak if you’re not in the middle of the hostel. I had hot water in the shower maybe 1-2 showers out of 5. Also there is zero atmosphere: there is a beautiful rooftop but nothing is organized, nothing to do in the hostel. In the evening, there is quite a loud pop music going on but nothing happening. Plus, communal areas are not climatised, so very hot area but with loud music… Nothing super bad but most of the things are not enough.

Good location. Good breakfast. Helpful staff. The only negative was that the downstairs part of my single room (No18) smelt like stale beer? Upstairs was fine.

Friendly staff, exceptionally clean hostal. For budget travelers looking to find a safe, clean, comfortable place to stay I highly recommend La Joya. The front desk staff speak English and Spanish. My stay included breakfast and it was well worth the additional fee. I also ate in the attached restaurant one evening and the portion was enormous and the food was delicious. There was a rooftop balcony that works well if you are a remote worker or just want to relax and meet fellow travelers at the end of the day. The rooftop balcony is spacious, spotlessly, clean, and has lovely views of the city.

Room was comfortable and the kitchen was okay for cooking basic meals. It was quite far out of the centre of town but close to the bus station and the bus to vina Del mar. Staff were rude and charged us more than we should have been charged as they added on a tax that was not applicable to us and then said they were unable to refund us. We specifically asked about payment methods to make sure we were not charged extra and were told if we paid on card we would not be charged this tax, we were then told that paying on card was the reason we could not receive a refund. Staff were rude and unhelpful throughout our stay.

Me encantó el lugar. Si bien fui en un fin de semana de cuarentena para descansar y desconectarme, aproveché los ricos tragos del restaurant y la compañía de esos dos hermosos gatos que te acompañan a todos lados (cuando no están durmiendo, claro!) El personal es excelente, super amables y preocupados. Tuve un problema con la ducha, pero nada del otro mundo. Volveré de todas maneras

We had a great time at La Joya Hostel. The room was a private twin room. It was really clean and well presented. The staff were super helpful too. They have a lively bar which do great Pisco Sours!

Perfectly located near the bus terminal and the Chile Congress building, it is a nice place to stay: friendly and helpfull staff, modern design and a really good restaurant and bar.

I appreciated the availability and helpfulness of the staff; the partner-restaurant-bar next door provided a hearty and varietal breakfast.

This is a lovely clean hostel with great staff and a great restaurant attached. Our room was a bit warm and dark, but other family members’ room was pleasant. The common areas are well lit with daylight and very comfy. The kitchen is minimalist— no stove. A great feature of this property is the rooftop deck. It is a great place to hang out! This area of Valpo is pretty gritty. It’s near the market but far from the historic port area.

Well-designed communal areas. Private room was fine by not worth additional cost compared to other hostels. Good breakfast, rooftop terrace and bar. Felipe very helpful on reception desk. Near bus station - no reason to stay in this area!

Very cool hostel with great decor in all the common areas and rooms and a fantastic free breakfast, including eggs, fruits, bread, coffee. The bar on the terrace is also a nice place for a drink. The hostel was quite quiet when we were there but that could have been the time of the year. Not in the centre of town (20 minute walk), but very convenient if you are arriving and leaving by bus, as it is right by the bus station. Would definitely stay again.

Staff was fantastic, given Soap and shampoo with towel, cool vibe, very hipster. I lived hope easy it was to get everywhere from the hostel

We loved our stay! The staff was always super friendly and welcoming! They replied to all our questions and made of our stay in Valpo a great one!

I stayed for three nights, and met some great friends at the hostel. And had some fun nights out in town. Also the hostel is near the metro, and bus station s, so ideal a base for travelling!

Trendy, stylish and clean hostel with friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast, good kitchen and excellent rooms and bathrooms. Not in the nicest part of town, but close to the bus station and supermarket.
