In an excellent location just a short elk further down the ryokan, views of Karatsu castle can be seen. Great place to photograph the castle with spectacular sunset

I live in Japan, and this is my favorite place where to stay. Five generations have kept and expanded this ryokan from its humble beginnings as a restaurant more than a hundred and twenty years ago, traces of which can still be appreciated at the front structure of the complex. Inside you will be greeted by an always friendly staff. A long hall entirely built on wood, crosses over a pond leading visitor to the central yard of the ryokan, a beautiful garden displaying Kyushu’s pine trees and Japanese outer landscapes. At night you can enjoy delicious dinner at the room while seating over tatami and listening to the sound of waves from the nearby sea. Each room has its own personality and characteristics.

Great Ryokan with tradition and heritage. Beautiful building, clean rooms, serene garden, enthusiastic and helping staff. Japanese breakfast and Kaiseki dinner was top-notch. Can't ask for more in a pretty quiet town of Karatsu.

Great service and excellent food. Called and someone came to pick us up at the bus station in pouring rain. The owner gave us a tour of the gardens and his new building after breakfast. Highly recommend!

I HATE TO ADMIT IT, BUT THIS PLACE IS HIGHLY OVER-RATED....VERY EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT YOU GET....ALTHOUGH THIS PLACE HAS A HISTORY IN THE KARATSU AREA, I BELIEVE IT WOULD BE BETTER FOR YOU TO VISIT THIS RYOKAN, TAKE PICTURES, HAVE A TEA AND FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO STAY.... AND IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE KIND HOSPITALITY OF MR. OGOCHI (4TH GENERATION FAMILY MEMBER WHO IS RETIRED, BUT STILL CARES ABOUT THE GUESTS...HE GAVE US A BRIEF, BUT INFORMATIVE TALK ABOUT THE POTTERY DISPLAY AND POTTER'S WORKS THEY HAVE IN A COUPLE OF THE ROOMS ON THE FIRST FLOOR OF THE RYOKAN AND THE ARCHITECTURE AND FAMILY HISTORY OF THE RYOKAN) I WOULD BE RATING THIS RYOKAN EVEN LOWER.....DON'T GET ME WRONG...IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND EVEN IF YOU GET BOTH BREAKFAST AND DINNER INCLUDED, IT MIGHT BE WORTH IT FOR NO MORE THAN 10,000 YEN A NIGHT...NOT FOR 20,000 TO 40,000 YEN.....MOST OF THE WORKING STAFF CANNOT SPEAK ENGLISH NOR KOREAN.....EXCEPT FOR ERIKA WHO WAS TRAINING FOR THE SUMMER... AND MR. AND MRS. OGOCHI'S LANGUAGE SKILLS ARE WONDERFUL, BUT WE NEVER SAW MRS. OGOCHI UNTIL WE LEFT (SHE IS A VERY BUSY LADY UNDERSTOOD, BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO VISIT WITH HER AND IN MY OPINION MORE PROFESSIONAL ( AFTER-ALL,SHE APPARENTLY IS THE MATRIARCH OF THE RYOKAN)...OUR CHECK-IN WAS GOOD, BUT FELT THE FRONT DESK STAFF LACKED SINCERITY AND KINDNESS....IT WAS A NICE TOUCH TO HAVE OUR BAGS TAKEN TO OUR ROOM...THE RYOKAN PROVIDES BICYCLES TO TOUR THE AREA (MAY I STRONGLY SUGGEST TO THE OWNERS,FOR THE MONEY PEOPLE ARE PAYIN

Wonderful, warm welcome. Lovely, peaceful setting, nestled in a built up area but once inside, it has a feeling of calm and ancient tranquility.

I took my parents on an onsen tour in Kyushu this January and Karatsu was one of our stops. Everything at Yoyokaku was perfect except the room felt a bit cold to my aging parents. Personally, I didn't think it was cold. My mother and I also enjoyed a stroll in its beautifully manicured garden and Nazakano family ceramics displays at the yokan. The amenities, meticulous service and kindness all make Yoyokaku a great place to stay if one finds himself in this beautiful northwestern part of Kyushu.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying in Yoyokaku Ryokan, in the pottery town of Karatsu, for three nights. This Ryokan has been welcoming guests through several generations of family ownership, and welcoming non-Japanese guests for more than fifty years. The condition of the buildings is superb - the rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable, with their own bathrooms and Ofuro. The public bath area is also spacious and very well maintained. The gardens, which are quite large and very beautiful, can be seen from all of the windows in the room we stayed in. Traditional Japanese-style breakfasts are enjoyed in the public dining room, while Kaiseki-style dinners are served in the rooms. It is a privilege to enjoy the hospitality of Yoyokaku, and I can heartily recommend the experience!
