A Majestic Renovation, But the Five Star Feeling Still Feels Incomplete
The Singhasari Resort Batu Malang gives a strong first impression. The renovated lobby looks aesthetic, majestic, and almost cinematic. Visually, the property has charm and potential as a resort in Batu.
However, the five-star feeling still feels incomplete. The room was spacious, but the amenities felt too basic, especially the coffee and tea. The location is also not very convenient. Although it sits on the main road between Batu and Malang, there is not much to explore on foot, so guests still need a vehicle to go anywhere, especially during traffic.
The main issue was hospitality. Service felt rigid, transactional, and less warm than expected from a five-star hotel. Early check-in was communicated in a standard and uncompromising way. Breakfast was underwhelming, with limited variety, ordinary taste, and a strict children’s breakfast policy. Some staff communication felt defensive rather than welcoming.
One uncomfortable moment happened at the omelette station, where I was told to queue even though I was not cutting the line. The wording was later corrected, but the impression remained. Service also felt inconsistent.
Check-out was less smooth than comparable hotels, as we were asked to wait while the room was checked. Overall, The Singhasari has a beautiful look, but not yet the soul of a true five-star resort. The renovation improves the appearance, but the hospitality, breakfast, amenities, communication, and guest experience still need serious refinement. Based on this stay, I would not be eager to return.
