Lovely location on a quiet street about a 15minute walk to the Minster (if you don’t get distracted by all the things York has to offer along the way). The River Foss opposite and a stunning back garden mean the views from every room are lovely. The rooms are charming, with comfortable beds, modern ensuites, and plenty of plugs. What the hosts have done with this old house that dates to at least 1864 is amazing - no wonder they’ve won awards. Fiona is warm and welcoming; Paul buzzes about the kitchen turning out scrumptious breakfasts. Local yogurt, fruits, fresh croissants, homemade butters and jams, and homemade Irish soda bread were just a few of the delights that rounded out the hot breakfasts. Guests are offered a reasonably priced honour bar in addition to the coffees and teas (and welcome glass of sherry!) in every room. Everything is simply top notch.

Wonderful stay at MonkBridge House. Paul and Fiona were incredibly warm, friendly, and knowledgeable hosts who made us feel very welcome. The breakfasts were delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The rooms were bright, spotless, and well-equipped with everything we needed. We especially loved the thoughtful touches like the freshly baked shortbread cookies in the room. Highly recommend for anyone visiting York.

The breakfasts were terrific with a special each morning or a very good buffet selection. The rooms are pleasantly furnished, each unique in a way that feels both elegant and comfortable. The parking turned out to be an excellent boon in a city not designed for cars. The hosts helped us figure out what to see and where to go. Altogether, a very good stay, so good that we extended for a day

Paul and Fiona are wonderful hosts, made us feel comfortable, and provided excellent advice for visiting York and dining. The inn has a beautiful garden well suited for reading or conversation. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious with many choices, many homemade. Highly recommended.

I've stayed at many a guest house in my time but the attention to detail showed by Paul and Fiona was exceptional. The room had everything you could possibly need and then some. The breakfast was wonderful including many homemade products. It was our 1st visit but I wouldn't stay anywhere else going forward.

The house was renovated to a high standard, the rooms are tastefully decorated and the breakfasts excellent, the property was quite close to bars, restaurants and shops. The only problem with this property was the hosts where far from welcoming and at times could be quite rude. For what was supposed to be a relaxed break to me there were to many rules, timetables and charges. We are a well traveled couple but this was one of the worst experiences we have had.

Had a wonderful stay, from the moment we arrived Paul and Fiona made us feel very welcome and were natural hosts. The house is beautifully decorated throughout but has a relaxed feel about it adding to the sense of comfort. It is in the perfect position to explore the centre of York being only a short walk to historic attractions, shops and lovely eateries. Our room was very clean and comfortable with everything we could have needed and lots of nice touches including a complimentory decanter of sherry! The comprehensive choice and standard of breakfasts was excellant too, all freshly cooked to order. Without a doubt we would stay again and highly recommend. d

I was drawn to this place because the reviews were so excellent and it did not disappoint. Paul and Fiona were exceptional hosts - available but not overbearing and provided me with information on where I could go running in the local area. The room was beautiful and spotless and the breakfast was incredible every day (I especially loved the Sunday special which was French Toast when I stayed). It's a 12 min walk from York Minster so a great location but not in the total hustle and bustle. I would recommend this spot to anyone.

Well positioned for access to all parts of York. The owners ensure that the guests are welcome, comfortable and well provided for Any issues? Access to parking is a little tight for larger vehicles but ample and secure. Otherwise it is as close to perfection as one could expect.

Our stay at Monkbridge was outstanding from the moment we arrived. In fact even before arrival with the informative welcome email explaining check in and directions etc. We were so warmly welcomed and shown to our room, everything explained so well. We stayed in room 1 which had a beautiful four poster bed, it was so gorgeous. Immaculately clean. So traditional and individual yet had all the modern comforts of a posh hotel. With complementary tea coffee and home made biscuits even a welcome Sherry. There is a payable mini bar with very reasonable prices. All toiletries are in the bathroom and there is a Hair dryer provided. The breakfast is what takes this from a beautiful hotel to an absolutely five star spectacular one. I travel extensively for work spending a lot of my life in different hotels and guest houses and I can say this is without a doubt the best breakfast I have ever had. The Irish soda bread is what dream are made of. The venison sausage, beautifully cooked bacon and the mushrooms were so delicious my mouth is watering just thinking about them. Absolutely recommend. Really central location, really helpful and friendly staff. Can’t think of one thing to fault. Outstanding.
