Great staff and location. Rooms are on the small side and the hotel is in the process of renovating them. Restaurant with hotel is good, and offers in-room service.

Have been staying for 25 years of more but could no longer recommend to the many friends who have also stayed Whilst the young man on reception on arrival was very helpful, the check out man was aggressive and uncaring especially over room condition and we were disappointed that breakfast was cleared before 10 am without warning thus not allowing us to complete ( at 15 euros each) The upper floor bedroom left much to be desired in that it smelt very badly of a serious drain problem with no extractor fan in bathroom . Beds had both seen better days and were warn out and the whole décor and was very tired and weary. Food was OK and well presented and served.

Our goal was to have a romantic getaway, La Citadelle definitely provided the opportunity for that. The staff were friendly, and showed great patience with our lack of French knowledge.

This is the fourth time we have stayed at the Citadelle. It is in a superb location on the banks of the Gironde with spectacular views. Rooms are large and well appointed with views of the pool or the river. evening meal in the restaurant was excellent as always and breakfast is also good.

Neat hotel in the middle of the Citadel. Room decor odd, but comfortable. Restaurant in the hotel not great, especially the overpriced breakfast.

The location of this hotel is superb. There is a nice pool which is overlooked by the outside dining area. No pool towels supplied, no fridge or tea and coffee making facility. Cannot comment on food as only stayed one night, however the dining area has lovely views.

Great hotel, set within La Citadelle walls with great views over the Gironde. Plenty of places to visit and things to do in the area with Bordeaux about 25 minutes drive away, although we use it as an overnight stay at the start of the holiday. A super relaxing start.

We have been staying at this hotel off and on for 10 years, the last one before this was 3 years ago. since then a lot of work has ben done, partucularly on the bedrooms and en suite.Good dinner excellent breakfast sitting on the terrace overlooking the estuary in the morning sun. Superb location on top of the ancient citadele and nice pool.

Randomly selected hotel as stop over on route to the South. Brilliantly surprised. Will definitely recommend to friends and return again. Pet friendly and everyone was very happy to see our 4 month old puppy. Only complain was wifi was not brilliant but insignificant in scheme of things

The location was superb but the hotel was a huge disappointment and we curtailed our stay. The bedroom was tiny, barely clean, poorly maintained - but with nice views. The breakfast was abysmal. The hotel suffered from bad odours from the drains / sanitation....what a shame. It could be magnificent but instead is abjectly poor.

shame about the food. If the chef would stop mixing fruit anf fruit coulis with all his dishes and concentrate on cooking the main ingredients well it could be good, as it is, bizarre!
