Zamboanga City is an urbanized city in the Zamboanga Peninsula of Philippines. Throughout the Philippines, Zamboanga is the 6th most populous city and the 3rd largest city by land area. Zamboanga is also known as "Ciudad de Flores" or City of Flowers. The city is highly influenced by Spanish architecture.
Zamboanga is not affected by the typhoons that hit the Philippines every year. Therefore, tourists may visit the city at any time of the year. Tourists are however encouraged to come during the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival. It usually takes place in early October for two weeks. During this festival, there are pageants, parades, street dances, concerts, a Chabacano song festival, a regatta, trade fairs and other fun activities. The city will be very vibrant and colorful this time of the year.
Kalibo International Airport - Kalibo International Airport is an international airport. Therefore, tourists from outside of the Philippines may fly directly to Boracay. This is the airport for the Kalibo, Aklan and also happens to be one of the airports in Boracay. More passengers opt to land at this airport every day making it the fastest-growing airport in the whole of the Philippines. The airport is located only 2 kilometers away from the center of Kalibo. Some of the airlines that operate here are Cebu Pacific, Tigerair Taiwan, Air Busan and several other airlines. Up to 2017, there is more extension to the runway that has been done to accommodate the number of aircraft landing at this airport.
Zamboanga International Airport - Zamboanga International Airport is the main airport in Zamboanga City. It has been named an international airport by the Philippines Civil Aviation Authority. The airport started as a military airport, which then became a commercial airport. It had routes to neighboring countries such as Malaysia, but it was stopped due to funding issues. After some constructions and expansion, the airport now accommodates Cebu Pacific, Platinum Skies and also Philippine Airlines. Some of the destinations are Cebu, Davao, Jolo, Tawi – Tawi and Manila.
The climate pattern of Zamboanga is just like other parts of the Philippines, where it has a tropical wet and dry climate. March and May experience the warmest months in a year and the temperature can go up to 36.9 degrees Celsius. The weather will only be cooler from November to February. The average temperature is around 35 degrees Celsius only. However, it is between these months also that the Philippines is prone to be hit by the typhoon season. However, Zamboanga is outside the typhoon area. But the city will still experience some rainfall, rough winds and also thunderstorms. It is best to be aware when going to the city during these months as it may temper with your travel plans.
