⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I've been to Costa Rica five times, and Trogon Lodge is by far my favorite place I've stayed. The location in the beautiful San Gerardo de Dota Valley is absolutely breathtaking. Set along the river, the property is filled with stunning plants, incredible birdlife, and wildlife around every corner. There's even a beautiful trail on the property that leads to a waterfall. Our cabin was clean, cozy, and comfortable, with thoughtful touches like a space heater and hot water bottles for the bed. The property offers plenty of peaceful spots to relax, as well as a welcoming bar area where you can enjoy tea, snacks, games, or pool. The restaurant was excellent, and the staff were friendly, accommodating, and genuinely welcoming. Since the road to the lodge is steep and winding (but very manageable), having such a wonderful restaurant on-site meant we could enjoy the evening without driving after dark. The included breakfast was fresh, delicious, and filling. We also took the Bird Tour and Quetzal Tour. Our guide was incredible, helping us spot amazing birds we never would have found on our own. Seeing six Resplendent Quetzals was an unforgettable highlight. This is authentic Costa Rica at its finest. I didn't want to leave and can't wait to return.

Quiet, clean, and abounding with lovely rustic charm. A terrific place to unplug and get back to nature. Staff is kind, grounds are just beautiful with lots of places to tuck oneself in with a book or to just daydream. Breakfast was perfect. My husband recommends their pancakes:)

Beautiful gardens but no hummingbird feeders and variety of birds in April was limited. Obviously the hotel had tried to be more than it was with abandoned ziplines etc. I got the impression management was catering to one night stays for industrial sized groups to see quetzals. True, they succeed in that. Meanwhile other hotel birding trips were industrial too. Far better to get a ride to neighboring Batsu Gardens than use hotel birding tour.

A truly beautiful place, well laid out in a mountain valley. The atmosphere is welcoming and the restaurant is excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only minor suggestion for improvement would be to install Wi-Fi extenders to all the rooms. Our room was towards the back of the property and we lost the signal just before reaching it.

Trogon was one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed. The property and the location was priceless. The staff was fantastic and always willing to help. The cabins were clean and cozy and with the weather it will probably the best sleep you will ever have. The Food is very good plus there are a few other very good options within a couple of KM's. The bar/lounge was amazing and a Mojito is a must...

This is gem in the middle of the mountains. The hotel is beautiful beyond words, the staff is excellent the food delicious. We had an amazing stay and will come back for sure. For me as a wildlife photographer, this was Paradise.

The perfect place to stay to maximize your chances of seeing quetzals. Not the cheapest but worth every dollar. Beautiful grounds even in the rain. Very friendly and attentive staff. Good restaurant with great service. Truly excellent guide in Greibin.

Had a lovely stay. The grounds are gorgeous. Our room was clean, and plenty warm with the small heater. We didn't even need to leave the property to see a Quetzal. I love the communal bar/lounge.
