Just returned from an overnight stay at this property and what a welcome we had. All our needs were catered for and the owner went above and beyond. We also had an excellent 3 course evening meal at the property. I would definitely recommend this property and we would not hesitate to return here.

The staff were marvellous.The room was clean and every quiet although it's could do with updating. It had everything that I needed. The owner went out of his way to help carry my suitcases for me.

Central location, historic premises in quiet side street, entry using key. Two flights of stairs to room which had dated feel though bed linen and towels spotless. Shower a bit feeble but water hot. Breakfast self service cereal and toast provided in room, with real not UHT milk in fridge. A glass of wine in room on arrival nice touch.

Owner was very helpful and welcoming but regrettably Candlesticks needs a refurb. OK for a good value overnight stay but not comfortable enough for any longer.

The room and en-suite were very clean. There was a good choice of food for the continental breakfast. And the host went out of his way to help.

This is a very small, not very modern place. If you like things a bit quirky, this might be perfect for you, but for me I wasn't keen on turning up at the stated check in time to find the front door locked and no one answering. I left and came back and did manage to find someone to let me in who was very chatty throughout check in. The room was clean and comfortable, but up two flights of extremely narrow stairs and had a bathroom which had no shower, not even a handheld over the bathtub. I don't remember seeing any info about this during booking, had I known I would have tried to opt for a room with a shower as I can't take baths at the moment due to fresh tattoos. The car park is miniscule, understandably given the hotel's location, but with eight rooms and only enough space for six cars - three of them blocked in by the others - I imagine there have been parking issues in the past. The idea of breakfast items in the mini fridge so you can sort yourself out in the morning is a reasonably good one, although the toaster in the cupboard did feel like a bit of a fire hazard. Overall it was a decent one-night stay for a fair price if you don't mind a battle to actually get in the door in the first place.
