Really nice hotel however try not to book a room at the back,we were in 406 really dark and lighting not very good, another downside if you like an ordinary cup of coffee in your room using the kettle they provide coffee bags which didn't taste very nice at all but that was me,other guests may feel differently ,great location 😀

The hotel does not have aircon - they pretend they do but they do not - there was a long queue of people with the same concerns about the lack of aircon. The hotel provided fans which was not helpful so we ended up in sleepless nights. The location was excellent and one of the best in Oxford. The staff did their very best and we appreciated it. Nonetheless, I wish they had been more forthcoming about the conditions.

Had a great stay here, perfectly located in central Oxford and also onsite parking which was helpful. Unfortunately our room wasn’t ready for a while after check in time but the staff were apologetic and gave us some money off and a free cocktail which was great. The room was lovely, we stayed in a suite which had a roll top bath which was loveeely! Will definitely be coming back.

A stunning historic location. Lovely staff on the reception on arrival. It was a special occasion for our anniversary and I had ordered prosecco to be in the room with a card. The prosecco was there but not the card. The room was lovely, very spacious, lovely large bed. Unfortunately the bed was too hard. It was great to sit on but not for a full night's sleep. I asked if a mattress topper could be added or a duvet which the hotel did do immediately. It helped a little and I did manage to sleep, but woke up with a bad back. The room was very clean, including the bathroom. My only issue was we found some open olives in our mini fridge from the previous guest, but once I called reception this was dealt with immediately. The room had a Nespresso machine, bottled water in the fridge and tea/coffee facilities. Nice to see coffee bags instead of instant coffee. It was good to have Sky Sports and Sky Atlantic We had a meal at Chez Mal on our first night and the food was outstanding, it couldn't be faulted. The service was also fantastic. Our waiters Adrean, Maddie and Alex were excellent and so friendly. The breakfast was good with a nice selection of freshly baked pastries, fresh fruit salad etc... You then got to choose a hot option from the menu and it was all good quality. The area outside is lovely with places to sit and admire the building. It would have been nice to see some more of the history explained along the corridors as you walk to your room. Would recommend

Malmaison Oxford is a fantastic quirky hotel where we have stayed before. However this stay during the heatwave in June 2026 was unbearable. The room was stifling hot, there was no air conditioning in the room, the tower fan in the room simply circulated hot air and the one window in the room did not open! It really was like being in prison overnight. It was the worst night I’ve ever spent in a hotel due to the heat and barely slept. It ruined our mini break. To be fair the hotel did offer compensation which I accepted gratefully but I’d rather have had a better experience. I was told by the front desk that due to the hotel being a grade II listed building when it was converted from the prison to the hotel 20 years ago they could not get approval to install air airconditioning, apparently they have just received approval, although it will take 2 years to fully install.

The rooms had forced-air air conditioning, but it was not working at all on a very hot night. The windows only open an inch or so, and while that allowed in the noise from the bar courtyard below, it did nothing to alleviate the heat. The staff did provide a fan when asked. Otherwise, I would not have been able to sleep at all. Bottom line, avoid Malmaison when the weather is hot.

Stayed in the larger prison room during the hottest day in the UK and don’t need the air conditioning. Staff were great and staying in a prison was super cool

I loved my stay at Malmaison!! Apart from the novel concept, the property was very beautiful and well-maintained, it was centrally located, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. I was nervous about the lack of AC in standard cell rooms during the heatwave, but the building’s cooling system + fan was incredibly effective. We were also provided with complimentary water due to the heat, which was a game changer. I would definitely stay here again
