What stood out for us was the support we had. My daughter's baby was born very premature in the local hospital. I spoke to the hotel and they were willing to give us a good price on a room as we didn't know how long we would need it for. They gave us a family room with an extra bed. They put a fridge in the room for expressed milk to be kept until it could be taken to the hospital. The hotel location was perfect as it's walking distance. The staff were extremely helpful and supportive. Mina, Brooke, Emma, Andrea are just some of the names. Thank you for taking some of the stress away from a very worrying and stressful time. We are truly grateful.

I was very happy with this hotel, everything was clean and tidy, the staff were polite and very help, the breakfast food was plenty and well presented, checkin was also easy and quick, the rooms were well laid out and clean, very happy

Boxing Day check in, many dogs barking in rooms on way to our room. Inside room dirty marks in pillow. Dog barking continued next door and across hall, room at end of corridor with an open fire escape door banging away. Within 15 minutes realised it would be constant noise, the dog owners and smokers were in and out alot in short period of time! Asked reception to move due to noise and was told it’s a dog friendly hotel - I asked is there a floor or part of hotel dog free for guests - he laughed. I mentioned filthy pillow he didn’t respond. Moved rooms - key cards didn’t work, at reception for 3rd time in 30 minutes with group of guests also unable to use keycards. The night was very noisy inside and outside with incessant barking from car park and outdoor space. Room was not heated. Breakfast not great. Guests at breakfast complaining about damp and black mould in room, another complaining about still not getting into their room for the second day running due to faulty key cards. Definitely not welcoming, not comfortable, not up to scratch.

First room stunk of stale cigarettes, probably due to the window being left open prior to check in and smokers outside. Easily changed rooms however. Dated property and decor. Good nights sleep, however running a bath early in the morning made a horrible sound from the boiler. Overall average stay, but at reasonable price.

The toilet was not flushing and the sink was clogged. The general condition of the toilet was old and dated and can do with refurbishing. The toilet roll holder was loose and the roll kept falling off the holder. The towel radiator was protruding an had a couple of burns. The headboard above the sink was low and not suitable to tell people as my partner banged his head a few times trying to brush his teeth at the sink. Generally poor experience and may not come back.

We were allocated a room on the ground floor near to the hotel function room. They had their first Christmas party on last night. They really should have allocated the rooms nearest the function room to the people attending the party. Breakfast felt low quality, hard croissants, cooked breakfast looked dry and unappealing.

Reception staff could not find our booking. They couldn't workout that with 2 rooms and 4 guests (2 other guests had arrived 10 minutes before us) had checked both rooms in at the same time. We were accused of being rude by the duty manager. Saying no we are not paying anymore money when asking if there was a room for us isn't beeing rude. Each time we pointed out (no raised voices or foul language) that it wasn't our fault we were told not to be rude. Being told that it is down to hotels.com and not the fault of Mercure suggests that there is a training issue for the front of house staff. Room was very tired. 2 extractor fans in bathroom didn't work. 1 was in the actual shower on the wall so not surprised it didn't work. Grout needed replacing in the shower. Side jets just leaked. Desk and drawer unit has laminate lifting and needs repairing. Light bulbs in the bedside lamps were blown. Breakfast was luke warm and not hot. Will not be staying there again and not likely to stay at a Mecure property in the future either.

We received a warm welcome from Steve on reception, who explained where everything was, and made some helpful suggestions for our stay. Our room 132 was a comfortable, quiet, corner room on the ground floor, which was spotless, and had everything we could ask for. Comfortable beds/pillows, large TV, extra heaters and a welcome fan. We enjoyed a hearty afternoon tea in the restaurant, and later, tasty, quick, room service. After an excellent nights sleep, we enjoyed a buffet style breakfast in the restaurant. Plenty of choice, clean, well stocked. A perfect overnight stay! We usually choose to stay at a Premier Inn, as you know exactly what you're going to get, and the price is competitive. Going forward, we will now be looking to stay at a Mercure hotel, as the prices are comparable, but the quality and standard of stay are certainly higher.
