Warm welcome on check in, in fact all staff we encountered on our stay were friendly and helpful. The pool was nice, the water was a bit cold for me but the rest of our party were fine. The breakfast was lovely, a good choice and very tasty. The room was good, to be honest it was purely a base so not too fussed about it, but it was clean and the beds were comfy. Would definitely recommend and will return

It’s always a lovely stay at Slayey Hall, from check in at reception to the cleanliness of the rooms and building and the food is always brilliant. Very accommodating for our dogs too. Always a treat to stay there.

The staff were exceptional.. kind, helpful and nothing was too much. The room was tired, the sink didn't drain well, the door had a large dent that looked like it had been kicked in and just then general condition was a bit tired but the hotel, breakfast and grounds were stunning. The pool was wonderful and we could swim without buying additional spa access which was nice. The female changing rooms laked areas of privacy to change, only having one small changing room. It would be nice to have more changing cubicles for women who aren't as confident getting naked in front of strangers!

Overall, this stay was disappointing, especially given the price of over £200 per night. The facilities didn’t match expectations. There’s a pool table in the games room, but it isn’t free to use, which feels unreasonable at this price point. There’s also no cash machine on site, and the nearest one is about a 20-minute drive away in Hexham. Despite this, reception and bar staff were unwilling to provide change or offer cashback, which made things unnecessarily inconvenient and disappointing. The rooms are in need of a refurbishment. There were visible scuffs on the furniture, the décor felt dated (particularly the wooden furnishings and artex ceiling), and small details like non-soft-close toilet seats and a broken lamp all added up. These are the kinds of things you would expect to be addressed in a 4-star hotel. There were also issues with the bar. We were told it would be open until late, but on a Saturday night it closed at 9pm. A couple were even asked to leave before they could finish watching the football, which didn’t feel very accommodating. Sleep was difficult due to a flag positioned outside the room window, which flapped loudly in the wind throughout the night. Finally, although the booking stated “pay at the property,” the payment was taken the day before arrival, which wasn’t what we expected. The breakfast was great and so was the room size but overall the experience didn’t justify the cost, and there are several areas that need improvement.

Nice hotel very large, up hill walk from car park. Room 242 clean comfortable. Pool enjoyed by 2 year old Breakfast ok but not fantastic. Coffee machines a joke. Other food, pizza £40 x 2 poor not good at all. Lot of noise till 2am in morning from persons make excess noise. Storm Dave did not help. Overall a average stay and not one to go back too. Lack of hotel information seemed odd, dark wook paneling gloomy.

Cold room heating not working properly, hotel knew about this yet sold us the room. Hotel very anti-family with regard to use of pool. Unless you wish to use the pool as a family very early in the morning or in the you have no chance of using pool. Hotel doesn’t tell you this until after check in not at booking.

Terrible sleep, which whilst guest behaviour is not the hotels fault, the duration it took to deal with the situation was possibky far more drawn out than it should have been. A guest domestic took place in the room next door just before 1am, took over 90 mins for the guest to be removed from the hotel and because of being on the ground floor, this guest was banging on the windows of the room once he was outside. Towel rail in the room didn't work which was disappointing as had wet swimwear from the Spa to dry and meant the bathroom was quite cold. Food in restaurant was average and the premium dishes were remarkably small portioned - the duck stated Duck breast, but was merely a slither of a duck breast. The dining credit I didnt feel was clear that couldn't be used towards drinks (food only) so financially was worse off when paying the remainder of the bill. All points raised at check-out but reception staff didn't seem to interested, an quick sorry about that, and more concerned about being able to start checking out the next guest. I wouldn't return nor recommend a stay. Gave 3* as the guest behaviour isnt the fault of the hotel and overall stay adequate.
