Positives: We had a lovely stay overall. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the rooms were very well presented. We stayed in two different rooms after extending our trip, and both were equally nice. The pool areas were great and well-kept, although a few more loungers would have been helpful during busier times. The location is excellent, with a wonderful beach directly opposite the hotel, which made it especially enjoyable. The reception and concierge staff were superb. Room for improvement: The continental breakfast could be better. Service in the breakfast and lunch areas could be improved. While staff were friendly and accommodating once engaged, we often experienced long waits to be seated at breakfast despite visible queues and available staff. Similarly, on the outdoor terrace, service was slow or absent at times—we waited over 15 minutes without being attended to and eventually had to order at the bar. The games room was also quite basic and could be enhanced to better match the overall quality of the hotel however offered some fun options for the kids.

We had stayed before and everything about the hotel remained good except, this time, the food and drink service, while always friendly and polite, was glacially slow. I had to keep reminding staff of orders because I didn't know if things were coming or not, whether in the restaurant or a bar area. Even a beer could take 20 minutes, and on one breakfast I had to ask four times over nearly half an hour before coffee and milk for cereal was brought to the table. The same happened the next day, I had to remind them to bring coffee and a menu so that we could order. Not very 'grand'. When I mentioned it on check-out the receptionist said I could with-hold the service charges if I liked, but I didn't want to penalise staff for what were clearly systemic shortcomings. She didn't apologise, just said they were very busy. In that case, get more staff or give time-slots for meals. We thought we had found a hotel we could return to many times and recommend, but probably won't now.

Beautiful building. Needs updating. Room was big but the bathroom was not up to standard for a 5 star hotel eg water pressure was low, the shower units were dated, no separate shower. Perfect lication. Parking available on a first serve as basis unless you pay £25 for a guaranteed parking per night. Indoor pool was okay but the pressure in the jacuzzi was not strong. Only one steam room and no sauna. Breakfast time was bit hit and miss and had to wait anling time to receive our cooked breakfast. Food at the restaurants was good but pricey given the sane food is a fraction of the price outside. We had scaffolding outside our room as there were building works being carried out and we were not told about this at the time of booking. A bit disappointed about this. Beware, not all rooms have air conditioning. The superior rooms only have a/c and more expensive. Not much by way of activities at the hotel in the evenings. All in all I would say its a 4 star at best. Perhaps once the place is renovated to high standard then it will be a 5 star.

Room was a little small and showing signs of ware and tare. Excellent breakfasts with fresh fruit salads, continental spread, hot food cooked to order and tasty. I did not try the lunch or dinner but I noticed a lack of vegetarian options. I also did not try the indoor pool or gym. I had afternoon tea there which was a bit pricey and underwhelming.

Super stay. Bright, clean room Superior Classic. Had tasty sandwich lunch outside in sunshine. The hotel is wonderfully situated, set back from the road and coastline. Beachy Head walks very close by and superb promenade walks right out front by the sea. Great for Congress Theatre. Splendid historic building, facilities and friendly staff. Parking on site. Fabulous varied breakfast....cereals, fruits, smoked salmon/meats/cheeses and served hot breakfasts. Love it there. Thanks

The hotel is very grand on entrance and the check in staff helpful and friendly. Our room was large and spacious, but on the ground floor straight onto a street. Hotels, com are great deals, but you never get a great room. Dinner in the Garden Restaurant was nice but for 5 stars you would expect much better. The breakfast was great with extensive options and freshly prepared hot breakfast. Beds very comfortable. Overall a nice stay. Just not sure it’s worth the price. and freshly prepared hot food.
