Checked-in at the bar where staff were all helpful and welcoming. The room (and bed) was very comfortable with good blackout blinds. Central location so very convenient for exploring Alnwick. We’ll stay here again.

Kitchen was unfortunately closed as the inn recently changed plans, so we had to venture out. We had no hot water for showers when we arrived, but the new assistant manager promptly got to work getting it sorted out so we could enjoy a hot shower before bed. Bed was comfy, room and washrooms clean. Parking on site was great.

Disappointing, awaiting new management. Searched hotels.com for rooms with breakfast and booked The Plough. Confirmation revealed no breakfast included. In fact, no food was being served while we were there. Only one member of staff on duty to greet guests between answering phone and serving the bar. Helped with some of our luggage but had to manage most of it ourselves to top floor rooms, no lift. Rooms nice with clean and comfy bed, but no milk with the tea making tray, no information pack, no contact for any issues. No milk at all available, even with the coffee machine behind the bar. A staff member bought milk for guests when he finished his shift. We found other places to dine but as the bar at The Plough closed at 9pm, front door access was locked and we had to come back in via the fire escape. For breakfast we had to leave that way too as the doors were locked until the bar opened. Speaking to the cleaner, we found that rooms are not serviced unless you leave a paper hanger on the door. No hanger or explanation was in our rooms. The check out process was unstaffed, we had to leave our keys in the door which seems insecure. An unusual set up, desperately in need of help from Alex Pollizzi. I hope the new management reopens the kitchens, and includes some form of breakfast offering. They should establish a more efficient and secure check in system. The staff try hard, but lack the support and guidance to present themselves as a welcoming and effective team.

No food served at all, kitchen closed. We discovered this on our arrival. Bar closed at 10pm every day, when the front doors were locked and we had to use fire escape to get back into the hotel. No sign of any staff on site from 10pm to 12 noon next day and doors still locked between these times, therefore the fire escape was the only route we could use to go in or out every day. Difficult to navigate the fire escape, especially when checking out with luggage at 80 years of age! Staff attitudes left a lot to be desired - I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy! I’m surprised this hotel is still available to book.

The accommodation is in a good location. Parking is available although it's accessible through a very narrow alley way. The staff was one person who ran the bar and cleaned the rooms. Access to the rooms was up stairs which were steep and not suitable for persons with walking problems. Breakfast was advertised on the website but was not available as there was no staff to provide it. Overall the accommodation was okay, but I would not use it again.

Entrance to car park is very narrow if you have a big car. Front door closed at 10pm so would have to access from rear of property up steep stairs to fire exit and enter with fob. We were back by 9:45pm and we could not buy a drink as last orders had been called 🙁. But clean, comfortable room and central so would stay again for price.

Despite booking a bed and breakfast rate, there was no breakfast served in the Plough. I complained immediately and pointed out that even the welcome note in the room stated breakfast timings. I booked through hotels.com where it clearly stated that breakfast was included. And finally, I have received a receipt from the Plough that says bed and breakfast rate.

Lovely little hotel apart from being locked in, having to get out via the fire escape with luggage, and finding the hotel place shut down and locked up. Really bizarre situation, with breakfast apparently served from 8, yet not a a soul in site or contactable on phone or email. A shame as great location, friendly welcome the night before and nice room.

The staff were lovely but didn't seem to have had much training. There was a fire door on the second floor which was closed at night. We had to climb the outdoor stairs at night and in the morning. One morning everywhere was locked up, couldn't get to the ground floor. At breakfast there were no fruit juices, yogurts, anything like that.

Perfect location between Barter Book and the Playhouse with bus stop right outside. Clean, quiet, comfortable. Nice patio outside to enjoy summer evenings. Not fancy, but if your tastes are simple and you want an affordable base from which to explore the area, this is the place for you.

After navigating our way through outdoor tables littered with dirty glasses, things started to go wrong on check-in. Sad as being from 3pm, at 4.10pm he room wasn’t ready. Ok, it was 10 mins later but we realised later this was only achieved through cutting corners. Hairs in bath, no teaspoons, only 2 milk cartons, carpet not vacuumed, cobwebs in one bedside light and other one not working, virtually no loo roll, soap dispenser and shower gel dispenser not working. We booked this 2 night stay with filter for ‘breakfast included’ but staff advised not so. On complaining to manager, he eventually was persuaded that breakfast would be provided at no charge. However, breakfast turned out to be only for that first morning, as the violent drunken argument in the next room (to which police were called and an arrest made) disturbed us for 3 hours in the middle of the night. We advised the manager we would not stay for the second night due to all the above factors, and that we would expect a refund via hotels.com. Very disappointing to then see later that, according to hotels.com, he had refused to sanction a refund. This is an over-priced room above a pub, proven by our move down the road for £50 a night less, breakfast included and staff who knew what they were doing.
