The room was clean and spacious. I ate in the evening and ordered via the QR code link. The food came out quickly, was of good quality and was inexpensive. Would stay again.

Parking was very tight, definitely secure, register your number plate at reception desk, very easy.I didn't have breakfast as needed to leave early for Bath. We did have a 3 course meal the previous evening. * Must say the Chef is very good, Everything was home made, great presentation, taste, value for money, will definitely be returning in the future,as it's an ideal stop over for visiting my family in Wells.

Bedding was clean, room was clearly old - flaking paper, damp marks, wonky fittings, including the base of a kettle stuck to a table with the plug cut off. Hotel has no lifts, I believe it is a listed building and therefore hard for them to install. Staircases are not well kept, lumpy, overhanging steps in places, dips in others. Hotel has an extraordinary number of stair cases, to get to my room I had to traverse more than 6, some up, some down. I had previously requested a room with as few stairs as possible to get to as I travel with heavy work equipment. I was supplied with 2 small sachets of coffee for a 2 night stay. The TV worked, I was able to open the window. There was a broken fan on the floor of the wardrobe. It felt safe, the town is very pretty, staff were friendly.

The worst place I’ve ever stayed. Painting coming off the walls, uneven and creaking floors, carpets that look like they’ve never been changed or cleaned properly. I know the pricing is affordable, but we booked for 2 nights and only stayed for 1 due to how poor it was. If it’s somewhere to stay after a big night out then okay, but other than that I would entirely avoid.

This was an old pub/hotel so had that lovely ambiance. It was comfortable and clean; the staff was friendly and helpful. But the room had plaster patched that needed to be painted so looked unattended to. The breakfast was unexceptional & expensive. Other than those two things - it was fine for the price.

Friendly staff. Lots of stairs. Very noisy room, loud fans running outside the window from 6.30am to 9.30pm, loud music in the evenings (but not too late into the night). I imagine other rooms were better than mine as I was unlucky to get the one with fans outside of all windows

It is a very old and dated building and the carpets and rooms really could do with an update. The carpets in the hallways were very old and grubby. The breakfast was ok but there only being instant coffee was a real let down for us.

Room had all the essentials but is tired. Bathroom ceiling looks really bad. It looks like there has been a water leak in the roof. Dispenser over bath is broken. When squeezed to get shower gel it falls in the bath. Ni hot water this morning. Apparently they are awaiting a boiler part.

For an unknown reason the hotel had cancelled my room, despite Hotels.com taking full payment. All rooms were sold at my arrival, however I was found a room they were not expecting to use due to it's poor repair (TV broken and on floor). I accepted this as I needed somewhere to stay. The staff were very friendly and apologetic and I was complimented a meal for the inconvenience, however the stay was not comfortable.

How to rate this place; well it was perfectly adequate in most ways, well below satisfactory for the discerning and as I overhead the Aussie backpackers saying a few table over at breakfast ‘bloody brilliant’. So it is what you’d expect. And how you rate it depends on what’s important to you and your level of relativity to the outside world. Cheap - and it was! Dated and shabby - in a typical old English pub kind of way. This had its own charm, like the labyrinth of corridors and tiny up and down stair cases to get to the rooms.but also downfalls, like mismatched pain colour in the room where obviously once a painting hung and a toilet roll holder hanging on by a loose screw. Clean (enough) but not really. Some would’ve thought it fine, I wasn’t letting my kids roll around and play on the carpet. Comfy beds. New mattress and crisp linen, although the making could’ve been improved. Great location. Central, in the heart of Andover and will enough parking. Would I recommend it for a weekend away to impress the missus? Nup. A quick stopover on the way through? Yep if you can put up with the foibles and just want a cheap sleep.
