The room is nice, comfortable, and most importantly, it's not haunted so you can sleep soundly.... hehehe, the floor is unique, it has sound so it's fun, the staff is friendly, God willing, I'll stay again if I can get breakfast, even though there are no windows, it's not stuffy..... close to the mall and station, if you do a little exercise, just walk to and from the station

The culinary landscape of Badas, deeply rooted in Indonesian traditions, offers a delightful exploration for international palates. While specific regional specialties might be subtle, the broader Indonesian influence is strong, with dishes that are both flavourful and accessible. For travellers from the Philippines, the opportunity to sample distinct Indonesian tastes, often characterized by a balance of sweet, savory, and spicy notes, presents an exciting gastronomic adventure. Expect to find influences from Javanese cuisine, which often features rice as a staple, complemented by a variety of side dishes.

When seeking out authentic Badas cuisine, exploring local markets and street food stalls is highly recommended. Areas like Kediri City Center and the vicinity around Pare are known for their vibrant food scenes, offering a chance to try dishes prepared fresh. For Muslim travellers, Indonesia, including Badas, is predominantly Muslim, meaning Halal food is widely available. Most eateries will clearly indicate if their food is Halal, and many local warungs (small eateries) serve traditional dishes prepared according to Islamic dietary laws, ensuring a comfortable dining experience.

The affordability of food in Badas is a significant draw for international visitors. Street food and meals at local warungs can be incredibly inexpensive, often costing less than ₱100-₱200 per person for a substantial meal. Mid-range restaurants offer a more comfortable dining experience with prices typically ranging from ₱300-₱600 per person. Even at higher-end establishments, prices remain reasonable compared to Western standards, with a three-course meal for two potentially costing around ₱1,000-₱1,500. This makes Badas an excellent destination for food lovers on a budget.

Navigating dining etiquette in Badas is straightforward for most international travellers. It's customary to eat with your right hand, especially when dining at local eateries or from communal dishes, though cutlery is standard in restaurants. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, usually around 10%. Meal times are generally similar to Western schedules, with lunch being the main meal of the day. Being open to trying new dishes and showing appreciation for the food and service will go a long way in experiencing the local hospitality.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Badas

Understanding and respecting local customs is key to a rewarding travel experience in Badas. While generally a welcoming region, awareness of certain cultural nuances can prevent misunderstandings. For instance, Indonesians, including those in Badas, often value politeness and indirect communication. Overt displays of emotion or confrontation are generally avoided. When interacting with locals, a friendly demeanor and a willingness to learn a few basic Bahasa Indonesia phrases, like "Terima kasih" (Thank you), will be greatly appreciated by the community.

When visiting religious sites or more traditional areas within Badas, dressing modestly is important. This typically means covering shoulders and knees. While not as strictly enforced in commercial centers, it’s a sign of respect. When taking photographs, it’s polite to ask for permission before photographing individuals, especially in more rural settings. Queuing culture is generally observed, but patience may be required in busier areas. Observing how locals behave in public spaces and following their lead is a good general practice for international visitors.

Safety in Badas is generally good, with petty crime being relatively low compared to major international tourist hubs. However, as with any travel, it’s wise to take precautions. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or on public transport. Ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and offer a convenient and relatively safe way to get around, often more so than unmetered taxis. It’s advisable to use official taxi services or book through your hotel for longer journeys.

For any emergencies, local police can be contacted via the general emergency number. While Badas may not have a dedicated tourist police force, local authorities are generally helpful. For Filipino travellers, it's always prudent to know the location of the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate in Indonesia, though for minor issues, local assistance is usually sufficient. Considering travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and theft is a wise precaution for any international trip, including a visit to Badas.

Getting to Badas and Getting Around

Reaching Badas from the Philippines is a journey that typically involves a flight to a major Indonesian gateway, followed by a domestic connection. While direct flights from Manila (MNL) or Cebu (CEB) to airports serving Badas are uncommon, travellers can find convenient routes with one stop, often in Jakarta (CGK) or Surabaya (SUB). The total travel time can range from 8 to 15 hours, depending on the layover. Flights from the Philippines to Indonesia are readily available on Traveloka, with prices varying based on the season and booking time, but often starting from ₱8,000-₱15,000 round trip. The primary airport serving the Badas region is typically the one in Kediri, with onward transfers to your accommodation taking approximately 30-60 minutes by taxi or ride-hailing service.

Navigating within Badas and its surrounding areas is relatively straightforward, offering a mix of modern and traditional transport options. Ride-hailing apps like Grab are prevalent and provide a cost-effective and convenient way to travel between neighbourhoods, with short rides costing around ₱50-₱100. Local buses and minivans (angkot) are the most economical options for longer distances, though they can be crowded and routes may be confusing for first-time visitors. Taxis are also available, but it's advisable to ensure they use a meter or agree on a fare beforehand. For exploring specific districts like Pare, renting a scooter or car can offer greater flexibility.

The best time to visit Badas generally aligns with Indonesia's dry season, which typically runs from May to September. During these months, the weather is characterized by sunshine and lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor exploration and sightseeing. This period often coincides with peak tourist seasons in other parts of Indonesia, but Badas, being less of a mainstream destination, may offer a more relaxed experience. Travelling during the shoulder months of April or October can provide a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds, potentially with slightly lower accommodation prices.

Before embarking on your trip to Badas, a few pre-departure preparations will ensure a smoother journey. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). While major credit cards are accepted in larger hotels and some restaurants, carrying cash is essential for markets, street food vendors, and smaller establishments. You can exchange currency at the airport or in local banks. Purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival is recommended for easy data access and communication, with options available at the airport or in town. Essential apps to download include a reliable map application, a translation app, and ride-hailing services. Use Traveloka to find the best flights — book flight.

Visa Information

For Philippine passport holders planning a trip to Badas, Indonesia, understanding the visa requirements is a crucial step. As of current regulations, Filipino citizens are generally granted visa-free entry into Indonesia for short stays, typically for tourism purposes. This allows for a stay of up to 30 days without the need for a pre-arranged visa. However, it is imperative to confirm the latest immigration policies directly with the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines, as regulations can change. Ensure your passport has at least six months of validity remaining from your intended date of departure from Indonesia.

The application process for visa-free entry, while not requiring a formal application, necessitates preparedness. Upon arrival at the Indonesian port of entry, immigration officials may request proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket, and evidence of sufficient funds to cover your stay. While there are no visa fees for visa-free entry for Philippine citizens, travellers should be aware that any extension of stay beyond the permitted period will require a formal application and associated fees. It is always advisable to have copies of important documents, including your passport and flight details, readily accessible.

Given that immigration policies are subject to change, it is strongly recommended that all travellers verify the most current visa and entry requirements with the official immigration authorities of Indonesia or the Indonesian Embassy in the Philippines well in advance of their travel dates. This proactive approach ensures that you are fully compliant with all regulations and can avoid any last-minute complications. Confirming your entry status before booking your flight is a prudent measure to guarantee a seamless travel experience to Badas and other destinations within Indonesia.
