For a 4-star hotel, this is a good choice. The staff are friendly. Check-in was fast. The breakfast variety isn't that great, but honestly, I didn't find anything to be disappointing. I was really happy to find dim sum and the chili oil was delicious with shrimp. The pool is also okay, not too small, and the view is really nice, especially in the late afternoon. And the drinking water is free to refill. Overall, it's a great stay here.

Highly recommended. I regret staying here. I got a room on the first floor in front of the fish pond, it felt so refreshing. The air circulation and lighting were good, not stuffy. The bed was wide enough for two people, and there was still plenty of space. The room was also cleaned. Amenities and towels were clean. 2 bottles of 600ml mineral water were provided every day. There was a dispenser for refilling drinking water, and there was also coffee for making coffee. It was worth it. Next time I watch a concert around GBK, I want to stay here again 🥰

Even more upscale dining options remain considerably more affordable than in many Western countries, allowing travellers to enjoy diverse culinary experiences without overspending.

Navigating dining etiquette in Kebon Jeruk is generally straightforward for international visitors. Meals are typically enjoyed with a fork and spoon, with the spoon used to assist the fork. Tipping is not customary in most local eateries, though a small gratuity may be appreciated in higher-end restaurants. It's polite to wait for elders or hosts to begin eating first. When ordering, pointing at dishes or using simple Indonesian phrases can be helpful. Embracing the local way of eating, often with hands for certain dishes like Nasi Campur, can enhance the cultural immersion.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Kebon Jeruk

Understanding local customs is key to a respectful and enjoyable visit to Kebon Jeruk. Indonesians are generally known for their politeness and hospitality. It's customary to greet people with a smile and a polite nod. When interacting with locals, especially elders, using respectful language and avoiding overly casual behaviour is appreciated. Public displays of affection should be kept to a minimum, as they are not common in Indonesian culture. Observing how locals behave in public spaces, particularly around religious sites, will provide valuable insights into appropriate conduct.

When visiting religious sites such as Masjid Al Kautsar, adherence to dress codes is paramount. Both men and women should dress modestly, covering their shoulders and knees. Women may be required to wear a headscarf, which is often provided at the entrance. It's important to remove shoes before entering prayer areas. Photography is usually permitted, but always ask for permission before taking pictures of people. Maintaining a quiet and respectful demeanour within the mosque is essential, reflecting the sacred nature of the place.

Safety in Kebon Jeruk is generally comparable to other urban areas in Jakarta. While the region is relatively safe, exercising common sense precautions is advised. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or on public transport. Ride-hailing apps like Grab and Gojek are widely available and offer a convenient and relatively safe way to get around. For navigation, offline map applications can be very useful, as internet connectivity can sometimes be unreliable.

In case of emergencies, the general emergency number in Indonesia is 112 for police and ambulance services. For Filipino travellers, it's advisable to have the contact details of the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta readily available. While specific tourist police might not be prominent in Kebon Jeruk, local police are accessible. It's also recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and to be aware of any health advisories issued by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) before your trip.

Getting to Kebon Jeruk and Getting Around

For travellers from the Philippines, reaching Kebon Jeruk involves flying into Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK). Flights from Manila (MNL) and Cebu (CEB) typically involve one or more layovers, with total travel times ranging from 7 to 12 hours, depending on the connection. Direct flights are less common. The cost of flights can vary significantly, but budget around ₱ 10,000 to ₱ 20,000 for a round trip, especially if booked in advance. From CGK, Kebon Jeruk is approximately a 45-60 minute drive, depending heavily on traffic conditions. To secure your journey, it's advisable to book flight tickets well in advance.

Once you arrive in Kebon Jeruk, navigating the area is best done using a combination of ride-hailing apps and local transport. Apps like Grab and Gojek are ubiquitous and offer affordable car and motorcycle taxi services, which are efficient for traversing Jakarta's notorious traffic. For shorter distances within neighbourhoods, walking is feasible, and local minibuses (angkot) offer a very cheap, albeit sometimes confusing, way to travel. Taxis are also available, but it's crucial to ensure they use the meter.

The best time to visit Kebon Jeruk, and Jakarta in general, is during the dry season, which typically runs from June to September. During these months, the weather is generally sunny with less humidity, making it more pleasant for outdoor exploration. While prices might be slightly higher during this peak season, the comfortable climate often outweighs the cost. The shoulder months of April-May and October-November can also offer good weather with fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation rates.

Before departing for Kebon Jeruk, ensure you have a few essentials sorted. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). While major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, carrying some cash for smaller vendors and local transport is essential. Consider purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival at the airport for affordable data and calls. Essential apps to download include Google Maps for navigation, Google Translate for communication, and ride-hailing apps like Grab. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

Visa Information

For Philippine passport holders planning a visit to Indonesia, including the Kebon Jeruk area, visa requirements are generally straightforward. As of current regulations, Filipino citizens are typically granted visa-free entry for short stays, usually up to 30 days, for tourism or business purposes. This allows for a convenient entry without the need for pre-application. However, it is always crucial to verify the latest visa policies with official Indonesian immigration sources, as regulations can change.

The visa-free entry for Philippine passport holders usually requires a valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity from the date of entry. You may also be asked to present proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket, and sometimes proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay. While no visa fee is associated with this visa-free facility, any extensions or stays beyond the permitted duration will require proper application and may incur fees.

It is highly recommended that all travellers, regardless of nationality, confirm the most current visa and entry requirements directly with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the Philippines or the Directorate General of Immigration of Indonesia before booking flights or making travel arrangements. Policies can be updated without prior notice, and ensuring compliance with all regulations will guarantee a smooth entry into Indonesia and a pleasant trip to Kebon Jeruk.
