Of the many hotels/guest houses I've tried in Bengkulu, Alena Boutique is the winner, both in terms of rooms and building. As for breakfast, I happened to choose a room without it. No wonder Alena Boutique Hotel has the highest rating on the app. Next time I'm in Bengkulu, I'll stay here again, and I'll try the bunk bed room 🤟🏻

It's customary to greet people with a smile and a polite nod. When visiting homes or more traditional settings, it's polite to remove your shoes before entering. Public displays of affection are generally frowned upon, and dressing modestly, especially when visiting religious sites or more conservative areas, is advisable. Being mindful of these nuances will foster positive interactions.

When visiting popular landmarks like Bintang Motor or the residential area of Perumahan Surabaya Permai 5, maintaining respectful behaviour is paramount. Dress codes are typically casual for these types of locations, but it's always wise to err on the side of modesty, covering shoulders and knees if unsure. Photography is usually permitted, but it's courteous to ask permission before taking close-up photos of individuals. Queuing culture is present, and patience is appreciated in busy areas.

Safety in Serut River is generally good, with petty crime being the most common concern, as in many tourist destinations. It's advisable to keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or on public transport. Utilizing reputable ride-hailing apps like Grab or Gojek is recommended for safe and convenient transportation. For emergencies, local police can be reached via emergency numbers, and it's always wise to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and theft.

For Filipino travellers, it's important to note that the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta or the Consulate General in Manado would be the primary points of contact for consular assistance in Indonesia. It is recommended to check the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) website for any travel advisories or specific guidance before your trip. Carrying a copy of your passport and visa (if applicable) separately from the originals is also a good practice. Staying informed and prepared ensures a safe and smooth journey.

Visa Information for Indonesia (Serut River)

Entering Indonesia: Visa Requirements for Philippine Passport Holders

For Philippine passport holders planning to visit Indonesia, including the Serut River region, visa regulations are generally favourable. As of current agreements, Filipino citizens can typically enter Indonesia for tourism purposes visa-free for a stay of up to 30 days. This exemption is a significant convenience, allowing for spontaneous travel planning. It is crucial, however, to ensure your passport has at least six months of validity remaining from your date of entry into Indonesia and that you possess proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket.

The application process for visa-exempt entry is straightforward upon arrival at Indonesian immigration checkpoints, including airports serving the Serut River region. You will be asked to present your passport and may need to provide details about your trip, including your accommodation and intended duration of stay. While no visa fee is charged for this exemption, any stay exceeding the permitted 30 days without proper authorization can lead to penalties. It is always recommended to verify the latest visa policies with the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines before your travel dates.

While visa-free entry is common for short tourist stays, policies can evolve. Therefore, it is strongly advised for all travellers to confirm the most current visa requirements and entry regulations directly with the official immigration authorities of Indonesia or the Indonesian Embassy in the Philippines well in advance of booking flights or making travel arrangements. This due diligence ensures a smooth and hassle-free entry into Indonesia for your visit to Serut River and other destinations within the country.
