Oita is not so busy and crowded. It has the charm of a modern city with shopping malls yet the pace is slower and more relaxing.
It is also near Yufuin which is a quaint town.

Great little place about a 10 minute walk from Oita station. Check out Cafe Giraffe just around the corner. Great cappuccino and honey almond toast bread with ice cream.
I enjoyed Beppu's Onsens (Myoban) but actually liked Oita the city a lot more. It's only about a 20 minute train ride to Beppu.

This hotel is a step next to the shopping street which is very easy to dining and shopping.
The room is small and we accepted for low price per night.
They refurnished their lobby in a modern and hip design,
and put a lot of instant drinks of coffee, green tea latte, chocolate etc in the lobby for guests to try which is a surprise.
But their rooms did not refurnish and are still in old style, especially their TV signals are very bad, only a few channels can be watched, the Hotel AreaOne Oita should seriously refix this problem as this never happened in other Japanese hotels.
For parking, it is advised to park the nearby public carpark a few walks from the hotel for 800 yen from 6pm to 8am, then 200yen per hour.

Basic hotel - staff very friendly. Breakfast choice very limited, room was ok, very small but bed comfortable. Very expensive for what it was but had no choice as here during rugby World Cup and everything else was booked.

Toilet and air conditioning were filthy (really mouldy)
we paid 230 dollars for a night because they put the prices up for the rugby World Cup (which we accepted ) but for that price we would of liked to have a clean toilet. Other than that everything else was all good.

We mainly stayed at this place as a stop over location. The front desk was very kind and accommodating with our needs. The only thing is that the room is a bit too small to fit two medium size luggages so we felt a bit cramped.

We were looking for a place to stay near Beppu and ended up finding this place in Oita. Locationwise it was great, close to the station, restaurants and shops. The room was a smoking room, which was annoying because we dont smoke but we knew it beforehand.
The staff spoke limited english but did their best and in the end we always got our message across both ways.
