Exceeded expectations. Was our most expensive stay on our trip in Japan, as we got the room with the meals included since very little dinner and breakfast options in the area. The food was some of the best we've had on our trip, and that's a pretty high bar. The staff were nice enough to have the shuttle take us to the bus depot in the afternoon while we waited on our room so we could go to the UNESCO village, since the parking there was full. We were going to walk the Google estimated distance of 45 minutes. We did walk back as was wonderful weather and my wife and I wanted to hit our step goal but was extremely thankful they were nice enough to drive us to the depot when they didn't have to. It's also the only stay we've had with a private onsen so my wife and I could go together, and it was amazing. The room was also such an amazing space to relax, really wish we'd had more time there. And the fact you can individually cool the separate main bedroom from the other room was awesome. Highly recommend and we'd definitely stay again if in the area.

Really nice Ryokan / Onsen to stay at while visiting the Unesco site in Shirakawa. It was good to experience the huge dinner meal that they do at the resort once, but for our family the size of the meals were too much and we wouldn't do breakfast and dinner each day again if you stay multiple nights. The Onsen is top notch. used it three times a day. wonderful experience.

A large and very well featured Ryokan (traditional inn) style hotel near the historic village of Shirakawa Go. Very helpful staff, I appreciated the bus from Shirakawa Go bus station to the hotel. Without your bags (or perhaps with), it’s walkable in about 25 minutes. Additionally if you request it, you can get the bus back at 08:30 which got me onto the onward early bus to Kanazawa at 08:50 which was much appreciated. The hotel has separated male/female onsen as well as two private onsen you could share with your partner, if you wish. Familiarise yourself with both ryokan and onsen customs if you haven’t done either before! Take your shoes off at the door and don’t let them touch the elevated surface. There is a small grocery store about 25 mins walk away but also one in the service station up the hill near the hotel. The only thing I didn’t like was that the air conditioning was set to default to lower limit to 22 degrees, meaning if you set it to 20 for sleep it would change back to 22 instantly, meaning I was waking up in heat. An air conditioning system that is set too high like this, cannot be properly used in summer. Everything else was fantastic.

Such a fun ryokan. We had a huge room with 2 bedrooms and a river/mountain view. Their jinbei was very comfy and cute. After the onsen there was free ice cream and a yogurt drink available.

Absolutely huge room for two people. Breakfast and dinner were a high price and for good reason. They were plentiful with food and so well made. This property is easily one of the best places I've ever been to. Incredible onsen, clean rooms, huge shower, comfortable couch. I cannot reccomend it enough. We stayed 4 nights and it was exceptional.

Terrible- i have stayed in at least 20 hotels around Japan and this one has the worst service by far. They don’t let you leave your luggage ar the reception to go sightseeing for a few hours. I bought and paid late checkout and explicitly told them not to wake up 10’times, guess what they called and woke me up anyway. Specifically people at the reception were not friendly We arrived at dinner time, but they refused to serve us dinner because we did not book for it in advance and there is no other food in the hotel, and around the hotel you have to walk far just to eat which is also not recommended due to the risk of Bear attacks

The amenities were truly excellent--free tea/coffee, yogurt drink (in morning), popsicles (afternoon/evening), soba noodles (late night snack). The onsen was also very nice. The room was excellent overall, although the room I was in had some sort of pungent odor that was not from the tatami or anything readily visible.
