The rooms were very clean and neat. All facilities were working well and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The host was welcoming and extremely helpful. She even offered to send us to the airport as our flight was early in the morning and she kindly accommodated to all our needs (including waking up at 5am to prepare breakfast). All in all, our experience was delightful and we would strongly recommend this place.

Lodge is owned by siblings who take turns in looking after their guests. Interiors are relatively new. Split type aircon, no hot water which is not really an issue in a place like Puerto Princesa, room is spacious, spring type beds in a room with decent lighting. Breakfast included in package although there is no choice. But food served is adequate and tasty. Ordered Daing to bring home as they prepare it on their own. Fruit and Coffee also included. Great location as its perpendicular to two major city roads, thus no noise and traffic. Only 5 minutes from the airport. Owners are very caring. I wouldn't mind renting the whole ground floor - which is good for five rooms.

If you happen to arrive earlier than 14:00, you can inquire at the reception if your room is ready for immediate occupancy. In cases where the room is still being prepared, the lodge staff may be able to store your luggage securely. This allows you to begin exploring the nearby attractions or grab a meal without being burdened by your bags.

If you require a later check-out, it's advisable to speak with the front desk in advance. While not always guaranteed, they may be able to accommodate your request, possibly for a small fee, depending on the lodge's occupancy.

Your Travel Guide to Puerto Princesa as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Puerto Princesa from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach Puerto Princesa from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. Numerous airlines operate daily flights to Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS). Flight durations typically range from 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on the origin city. Fares can vary significantly based on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but budget-friendly options are often available, especially during off-peak periods.

For travelers seeking a more economical, albeit significantly longer, journey, bus travel is an option from some parts of Luzon. This typically involves a ferry trip as well, as Palawan is an island province. The total travel time can extend to over 24 hours, making it a choice for those with ample time and a preference for overland and sea travel. Fare ranges are considerably lower than air travel, but the trade-off is the extensive travel duration.

Driving your own vehicle is also possible, but it requires a substantial commitment due to the distances and the need for ferry crossings. This option is best suited for those who are already on an extended road trip through Luzon and are prepared for the logistical challenges. It offers the most flexibility for exploring Palawan at your own pace once you arrive, but it is not a common choice for most travelers coming from distant cities.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Princesa

The ideal time to visit Puerto Princesa for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which generally runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, which are perfect for island hopping tours, diving, and exploring the natural attractions like the Underground River. The weather is typically pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 26 to 32 degrees Celsius.

The period between December and February is often considered the peak tourist season, offering the most reliable weather conditions. However, it also means higher prices for flights and accommodation, and more crowds at popular sites. If you prefer fewer crowds and potentially lower costs, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or the early part of the dry season, or in May, just before the rainy season begins.

The rainy season, from June to October, can bring intermittent to heavy rainfall, and occasional typhoons. While you might find lower prices and fewer tourists during this time, outdoor activities and tours can be subject to cancellations or disruptions due to weather conditions. If your travel plans are flexible and you don't mind the possibility of rain, it can still be a viable option, but it requires careful monitoring of weather forecasts.

Food and Dining Near Puerto Princesa — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Puerto Princesa, you absolutely must try the fresh seafood. Palawan is blessed with abundant marine life, and restaurants here serve some of the freshest catches. Look for dishes like grilled fish (lapu-lapu or talakitok), buttered shrimp, and kinilaw (Filipino ceviche). Many local eateries and restaurants, especially those near the Baywalk, offer these delights.

Another local specialty to seek out is Tamilok, a type of woodworm harvested from mangrove trees. It's typically eaten raw, often with vinegar, calamansi, and chili, offering a unique, briny flavor that adventurous eaters will appreciate. While not for everyone, trying Tamilok is considered a characteristic Palawan experience for many visitors. You can often find it in local markets or specialized restaurants.

For a taste of hearty Filipino comfort food, try the Chicken Inasal. This grilled chicken dish, marinated in a mixture of vinegar, calamansi, and annatto oil, is a staple in many parts of the Philippines but has its own distinct flavor profile in Palawan. It’s smoky, tangy, and incredibly satisfying, perfect after a day of exploring. Many local barbecue joints and restaurants serve this popular dish.

Don't leave Puerto Princesa without trying Lato, a type of seaweed salad. It's refreshing, slightly salty, and often served with tomatoes and onions, dressed with vinegar. It’s a light and healthy accompaniment to grilled meats or seafood, showcasing the simple yet delicious flavors of coastal Filipino cuisine. You can find Lato in local markets and many seafood restaurants.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Puerto Princesa

Filipino travelers visiting Puerto Princesa will find the locals to be generally warm and hospitable. It's customary to be polite and respectful, especially when interacting with elders. Learning a few basic Tagalog phrases like "Salamat" (Thank you) and "Magandang araw" (Good day) can go a long way in fostering positive interactions. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.

Safety in Puerto Princesa is generally good, but like any travel destination, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded areas or markets. Avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas late at night. For emergencies, the local police hotline is typically 911, and Adventist Hospital Palawan is a reliable medical facility should you need assistance.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for finding your way around the city and to various attractions. Ride-hailing apps or local transport apps can be useful for getting around, though tricycles are a common and affordable mode of transport for shorter distances. A currency converter app can also be handy for managing your budget.

Finally, having a reliable communication app like WhatsApp or Messenger is useful for staying in touch with your travel companions or for contacting tour operators. These apps, combined with the Free WiFi available at your accommodation, will ensure you remain connected and informed throughout your Puerto Princesa adventure.

Horrible parking Man, we pulled up Friday morning to this motel and quickly decided to abandon the paid reservation without bothering to go inside. The place is right in the middle of a town, with a gated area that might have had one or two cars inside with very little space to park our rental car. I mean you could part in front if there weren't two cars already blocking off a good portion of the street. But not in a rental car in the Philippines where there is no car rental insurance. Or risk the car being stolen. We went to a place called Deep Forest Inn, parking was plentiful and behind gates with a guard at night. Not speaking for the customer service or the cleanliness of the place, just saying it was too dangerous to park with a rental car.

I like that it’s clean , the staff are very accommodating and accessible. Walking distance to stores, and Airport. Very polite and hospitable hosts.

There was a cockroach, power outage, barking dog throughout the night, loud people talking outside of our room at night. The staff were friendly though.

The Inn itself is clean but very basic. The hosts were lovely & accommodating… I could have done without the barking dogs at all hours.

El lugar está en muy buenas condiciones, limpio. El servicio es excelente la duelan nos ayudo en todo lo que pudo, lo único malo es que los triciclos no conocen esa calle y se pierden con facilidad

The Place is nice and in the city, near the church, plaza cuartle, baywalk, accessible to all the place you want to go. Thanks Tita Carol for accomodating us.
