About

Baywalk Park

A tropical paradise that is a haven to many locals and travelers, Puerto Princesa’s white sand beaches and verdant sceneries are a welcome respite from the hectic urban life.

At A Glance

Puerto Princesa City, the capital of Palawan, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the entire country. Although it is a highly urbanized city complete with modern structures, it has retained its idyllic ambiance and is committed to the protection of environment. Puerto Princesa has been lauded locally and internationally for being the cleanest and greenest city. It is also well known as the Eco-Tourism Center of the Philippines.

How to Go

By plane

Air travel from Manila and other parts of the country will take you to Puerto Princesa International Airport in an hour or less, making it the much preferred option for many travelers.

By boat/ferry

There are several passenger ferries, such as SuperFerry and Negros Navigation, that reaches the Port of Puerto Princesa from Manila. Make sure to check the company's’ schedules because they don’t travel to the area on a daily basis.

Getting Around

If you’re going on a short trip or within the Puerto Princesa town proper, you can ride or hire a tricycle to get you around since this is the typical mode of transportation. To reach farther destinations, jeepneys and multicabs also ply on the streets going to specific areas. Most tourists, particularly those who have big groups, rent vans for hire for a more comfortable way to tour Puerto Princesa.

Tourist Attractions

Puerto Princesa Underground River

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River, or commonly known as Underground River, is definitely the city’s ultimate pride and joy. Not only is it a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was also hailed as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. Many tourists make sure to add this amazing 8.2- kilometer river on their to-do list. One will not really mind the hour-long tour because of the remarkable rock formations and stalactites to see inside the cave.

Honda Bay

Honda Bay is also a favorite destination for visitors. Clear blue waters, white sand beaches, and breathtaking marine life welcome everyone. It features several islands where one can swim, snorkel, or bask in the beauty of nature. Also, the rich flora and fauna of Puerto Princesa will definitely open your eyes to the wonders of the world that people, especially those who live in the concrete jungle, will rarely encounter.

Batak Cultural Village

The Batak Cultural Village allows travelers to see a little of Puerto Princesa’s heritage. This is home to the Batak mountain people who are considered one of Palawan’s indigenous tribes. There’s also a mini museum where souvenirs are sold.

Top Things to Do

Sabang Beach

To swim, dive, snorkel, sunbathe, or explore? This is perhaps the biggest problem many travelers encounter when visiting Puerto Princesa. Having the same dilemma? Then try them all. Start your journey with some island hopping at Honda Bay. From there, go ahead and swim with the fishes or enjoy lunch picnics with your group. If you don’t like too crowded beaches, head over to Nagtabon or Marufinas.

Another awesome experience you should try is going to the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center or more popularly called as the Crocodile Farm. This is a great opportunity to encounter these cold-blooded reptiles in a controlled environment. Don’t forget to take a selfie to show off to your friends.

Where to Eat

Featuring a wide selection of restaurants and other food options in Puerto Princesa, make sure to try different cuisines for each meal. Chow down on tasty seafood dishes in Ka Lui while feasting your eyes on the indigenous paintings and artworks peppered around the place. Make sure to reserve your table in advance so you can enjoy a scrumptious lunch or dinner without the long wait.

Tamilok

Following a healthy diet? La Terrasse takes pride in serving organic food that is locally sourced from their own garden or other organic farmers. Meanwhile, exotic food choices await the brave ones with adventurous stomachs. The tamilok (shipworm) and crocodile sisig/meat are a must-try at Kinabuch Grill and Bar.

Nightlife

A veritable nature destination, the nightlife in Puerto Princesa is laidback. Kinabuch Grill & Bar offers a great atmosphere for those who wants to grab a drink or eat a hearty meal before hitting the sack. Partying all night long is not really the thing here for most travelers since they want to prepare for yet another big day of exploring the wonders of Mother Earth.

Where to Stay

You never have to worry about where you will stay when you’re in Puerto Princesa. Due to its booming tourism industry, there are many hotels available ranging from basic accommodation to five-star luxury hotels.

For those who want to splurge, Princesa Garden Island Resort and Spa is the ultimate escape away from the hustle and bustle of city living. It is a few minutes away from the airport so you don’t have to worry about checking in late. You can also indulge yourself in these top accommodations in the area including the Best Western Plus The Ivywall Hotel, Aziza Paradise Hotel Puerto Princesa, and Astoria Palawan Resort.

Budget travelers are also spoiled for choices. There are numerous affordable, but quality places where you can stay. Some of the favorites include Swiftlets Inn, Ipil Suites El Nido, and Our Melting Pot Hostel.

Travel Tips

  • Go to Puerto Princesa during the summer months from April to June when the seas are calmer.

  • Be sensitive to the local culture when visiting local communities.

  • Bring warm clothes as the nights might get chilly, especially during the rainy season which falls from July to September.
