I had a wonderful stay at Princesa Garden Island Resort on Christmas Eve! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring a seamless check-in and a comfortable experience throughout. My room was clean, spacious, and well-equipped with all the necessary amenities. One of the highlights was the thoughtful gesture of giving a gift to our toddler, which made the holiday season even more special. The breakfast buffet and festive decorations added a cozy touch to our stay. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again in the future!

We had a pleasant stay at Panja Resort. The staff are friendly. The place is near Baker's Hill (one of the tourist spots included in the city tour), around 10-15 minutes' walk from the hotel. Mitra's Ranch is also near it, but we were not able to go there due to our time limit. They also have a free ride from and to Robinsons mall. You may want to check their schedules. Also, they have free airport transfer from the hotel (only).

Street food and meals at local carinderias can range from as little as ₱ 100 to ₱ 300 (approximately $2 to $6 USD), while mid-range restaurants typically charge between ₱ 500 to ₱ 1,500 (approximately $10 to $30 USD) per person for a full meal. Upscale dining experiences can go higher, but generally, Tanglaw remains significantly more affordable than many Western or even other Asian tourist destinations, appealing to budget-conscious travellers from India and Africa.

When dining in Tanglaw, it's helpful to be aware of local customs. While tipping is not mandatory, a small gratuity of 5-10% for exceptional service is appreciated. Meal times are generally similar to Western schedules, with lunch around noon and dinner from 6 PM onwards. It's common to share dishes, and embracing this communal dining style is part of the Filipino culinary experience. Learning a few basic Tagalog phrases like "Masarap!" (Delicious!) can also enhance your interactions.

Local Etiquette & Safety in Tanglaw

Understanding local customs and etiquette is crucial for a respectful and enjoyable visit to Tanglaw. Filipinos are known for their hospitality, but there are nuances that international visitors should be aware of. For instance, it's customary to use your right hand when giving or receiving items, especially in more formal settings. Showing respect to elders is paramount, and addressing people with titles like "Ate" (older sister) or "Kuya" (older brother) before their name is a sign of politeness.

When visiting popular landmarks or engaging in activities, maintaining a respectful demeanor is key. Dress modestly when visiting religious sites, covering shoulders and knees. While photography is often permitted, it's polite to ask for permission before taking close-up photos of individuals, especially in more rural or traditional settings. Queuing culture is generally observed, and patience is appreciated, particularly in busy areas or when dealing with local services.

Tanglaw is generally a safe destination for international travellers, but like any place, it's wise to take precautions. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or public transport. For transportation, using reputable taxi services or ride-hailing apps like Grab (if available) is recommended. Many hotels can also arrange reliable transport. It's advisable to have offline maps downloaded and to keep emergency contact numbers handy.

In case of emergencies, the local police and ambulance services can be contacted through the national emergency number. For travellers from the US, UK, India, or Africa, knowing the location of your respective embassy or consulate within the Philippines is important for any unforeseen circumstances. It is also recommended to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and other unforeseen events, ensuring peace of mind throughout your trip.
