I stayed at Cooper's for three nights and was really impressed with every aspect of my stay. A free pick up / drop off to and from the airport is provided. The location is on a completely unspoilt part the coastline. They arranged for me a last minute trip to the underground river with minimum of fuss. If you want a completely chilled out place to stay with absolutely no concerns then this is the place to stay. The staff are wonderful and the food is of good quality buffet style, so you will never feel hungry. I just hope I get to go back some day!!

Your Travel Guide to Puerto Princesa as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Puerto Princesa from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach Puerto Princesa from Manila and other major Philippine cities like Cebu is by air. Numerous airlines operate daily flights to Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS). Flight durations typically range from 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on your point of origin. Fares can vary significantly, so it's wise to book your book flight in advance, especially during peak seasons.

For budget-conscious travelers, bus travel is an option, though it is considerably longer. From Manila, you can take a bus to El Nido or Coron, which often pass through Puerto Princesa, or find direct bus services. This journey can take upwards of 24 hours. While more economical, this option requires a significant time commitment and is best suited for those with ample time.

Driving to Puerto Princesa is also possible for adventurous travelers with their own vehicles, particularly if coming from other parts of Palawan. The roads are generally well-maintained, but the long distances and potential for varied road conditions mean this is a journey best undertaken with careful planning and preparation.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Princesa

The ideal time to visit Puerto Princesa is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, making it perfect for island hopping, exploring beaches, and enjoying outdoor activities. The weather is typically warm and pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 26 to 32 degrees Celsius.

The period from December to February is considered peak season, with many local and international tourists flocking to Palawan. While the weather is excellent, expect higher prices for flights and accommodations, and more crowded attractions. For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November, March, or April.

The wet season, from June to October, brings occasional rainfall, which can sometimes be heavy. However, this period also offers lower prices and fewer tourists, making it an attractive option for budget travelers who don't mind the possibility of rain. The rain can also bring out the lush greenery of the landscape, offering a different kind of beauty.

Food and Dining Near Puerto Princesa — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Puerto Princesa is complete without indulging in the local cuisine. A must-try is the fresh seafood, abundant in Palawan. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid, often seasoned simply to highlight their freshness, are readily available in local eateries and restaurants. Look for places offering *kinilaw*, a Filipino ceviche made with raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, and spices.

Another local specialty you should seek out is *tamilok*, a type of woodworm harvested from mangrove trees. While it might sound adventurous, it's considered a delicacy by many. It's typically served fresh, marinated in vinegar and chili, offering a unique briny flavor. Many restaurants in Puerto Princesa offer this unique Palawan experience.

Don't forget to try *Lato*, a type of seaweed that resembles tiny grapes. It has a refreshing, slightly salty taste and is often served as a side dish or salad, usually with tomatoes and onions. It’s a healthy and delicious way to experience the coastal flavors of Palawan. For dessert, seek out local delicacies made from *ube* (purple yam) or cashew nuts, which are popular souvenirs.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Puerto Princesa

Filipino travelers will find the local culture in Puerto Princesa warm and welcoming. The people are generally friendly and respectful. It's customary to greet elders with "po" and "opo" as a sign of respect. When visiting churches or local communities, dress modestly. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.

Safety in Puerto Princesa is generally good, especially in tourist areas. However, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. For emergencies, the local police hotline is usually 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers of your accommodation and any tour operators readily available.

For your convenience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is indispensable for navigation. Ride-hailing apps might be available for local transport, though tricycles are a common and affordable way to get around within the city. A translation app can be helpful if you plan to interact with locals who may not speak English fluently, though English is widely understood in tourist areas.

This hotel is close to nothing. It is about an hour away from Puerto Prinseca, and about 45 minutes to the closest beach. Although they have a private beach, it is not one for swimming, nor sunbathing. You have to pay a driver to get around, as there is no free shuttle service. Cost is 3500 PHP for a driver, wich is a dent in a buget just to get out of the resort. The only place you can eat is at the resorts restaurant. Food is mainly German, because it is German owned... Not to say absolutely disgusting. Food this poor should be included. It is a nonsense to pay for everything you consume when there is no where else you can eat! No hot water in the shower, no TV except in the honeymoon suites (and they don't work all the time). No wi-fi in rooms - only a hot spot available at the restaurant during meal hours, and sometime it is not available at all). Do not use laundry service. My clothes came back with a film a soap, damp and with moth holes. I could go on and on. Only good thing is theFilipino staff... Otherwise, don't book thinking it is a good deal. The food is triple what it costs anywhere else !

The first time we went to Coopers Beach it was in season and it was just right, I don't think it ever gets overcrowded. We actually got engaged there, it is quite a romantic venue. There were a variety of very interesting people to converse with, however this time it was out of season and it was quiet with only a few guests so it was peaceful and a good rest. The staff are great, very friendly, the management make you feel like you're part of the family. The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable and the bar is well stocked. Coopers is great for diving or snorkelling trips and I did avail myself of a dive. Kevin the dive-master is very professional and the boat is perfectly set up. The crew were extremely helpful in getting you out of the water.

This hotel is beautiful and the grounds stunning but it is a huge tourist trap. There are no options... you must go to "their" restaurant, for instance because there is NOTHING ELSE in the area... no other restaurants, no shops, no WiFi, no people, no options... you are really at their mercy for them to charge any price they want. I was completely dominated by and dependent upon the owners for there are no taxis either. They asked equivalent to $70 US in pesos just to go to town. It's an hour drive but no one in Philippines charges that much. The prices at the restaurant were extremely high for Philippines. There is no choice on food... they have a menu they plan each night and if you don't like it... don't eat. I was just shocked at the prices... and stuck. They can ask any price they want because there is nothing I could do about it. They are a hard-working family and doing a good job... I just want options when I travel.

The sand is also dirty..when they clean the rooms they don't automatically change the towels you have to ask forit. The resort is literally in the middle of nowhere.. No wifi no stores or shops nearby.. If somebody wants to have a very private retreat then I guess this is the resort for you

Harmi kovasti, turvallisin ota uima-allakseen.. Ravintola menu oli erittäin huono! Aamupala on yksikertainen tylsä tarjolla!

The place looked run down and deserted. We left after 30 minutes and booked another accommodation down the road.

The activities offered were very good We found the staff to be very friendly but found the fact that we had to purchase drinking water and the restaurant could not supply most things on the menu But in saying that the food offered was of good quality The problem with staying in an isolated resort is that going and doing other things outside the resort iis expensive

This is a really friendly hotel. It is right on the beach. The hotel is isolated but this is made up for by organised trips and friendly hotel staff as well as guest. Whilst I was there the guests apart from me and one guest from Brazil were all German. We all spoke German but the hotel staff also speaks good English. It is a hotel used mainly by divers However, it is also good for snorkelers for whom day trips with picnics were arranged. As I am really keen on snorkeling the hotel arranged a small boat to take me out to the reef for 1 hour snorkeling at a cost of appr. £8. There is also a nice swimming pool and on the sea front there are deck chairs. I also walked along the beach every day. Breakfast was included in my deal. Dinner costs £8 but the food is very good and varied.

I just want options when I travel.

too far from everything, especially airport.....food was pricey and dinner so so since we were stuck with what they served and not informed of price etc...no shuttle after 5:30 pm and pricey if not staying longer than 2 nights,,,,,otherwise, nice secluded place..not much of a beach to walk on or swim..guess it's a dive resort..

This resort was very disappointing..they claim to be by the beach but then the beach is not for swimming at all.. Full of seaweeds and jellyfish.. The sand is also dirty..when they clean the rooms they don't automatically change the towels you have to ask forit. The resort is literally in the middle of nowhere.. No wifi no stores or shops nearby.. If somebody wants to have a very private retreat then I guess this is the resort for you
