Your Travel Guide to Siaton as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Siaton from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Reaching Siaton, Negros Oriental, from Manila involves a multi-step journey, primarily centered around flying into Dumaguete Airport (DGT). From Manila (Ninoy Aquino International Airport - NAIA), you can book flight tickets to Dumaguete. Several airlines operate this route, and fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book. Expect to pay approximately PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip, though promotional fares can sometimes be lower.

The flight duration is about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once you land at Dumaguete Airport, you will then need to take a taxi or arrange for a private transfer to Siaton, which is about a 1 to 1.5-hour drive. For the most convenient travel, consider booking your flight through Traveloka to compare options and secure the best deals.

If you're coming from Cebu City, another major travel hub, you have two primary options: flying or taking a ferry. Flying from Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) to Dumaguete Airport (DGT) is the quickest method, with flights typically lasting around 50 minutes to 1 hour. Fares are generally more affordable than from Manila, often ranging from PHP 1,500 to PHP 4,000 for a round trip. Alternatively, you can take a ferry from Cebu Port to Dumaguete Port.

This is a longer but often more scenic and budget-friendly option. Several shipping lines operate this route, with journey times ranging from 4 to 6 hours. Bus services are available from Dumaguete Port to Siaton, taking approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.

For travelers originating from Davao City, the most practical route is also via air. You would book a flight from Francisco Bangoy International Airport (DVO) to Dumaguete Airport (DGT). Flight availability might be less frequent compared to routes from Manila or Cebu, so it's advisable to check schedules and book in advance. The flight duration is typically around 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Similar to arrivals from Manila, upon landing in Dumaguete, you'll need to arrange onward transportation to Siaton via taxi or pre-booked transfer, which will take another 1 to 1.5 hours. While direct bus or ferry options from Davao to Dumaguete are less common and significantly longer, flying remains the most efficient way to reach Negros Oriental for most travelers.

Best Time to Visit Siaton

Siaton, like much of the Philippines, experiences a tropical climate characterized by two main seasons: a dry season and a wet season. The dry season generally runs from December to May, offering the most favorable weather conditions for outdoor activities and beach enjoyment. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, lower humidity, and minimal rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the coastal areas, swimming, and engaging in any water sports.

The period from December to February is particularly pleasant, with cooler temperatures compared to the hotter months of March to May. This is considered the peak tourist season, so expect more visitors and potentially higher prices for accommodation and flights.

The wet season typically spans from June to November. During these months, rainfall is more frequent, and while it doesn't usually rain all day, there can be heavy downpours, especially in the afternoons. Typhoons can also occur during this period, though Siaton is generally less prone to severe typhoons compared to the northern parts of the Philippines. Despite the rain, the wet season can offer a different kind of appeal.

The landscape is lush and green, and there are fewer tourists, leading to a more tranquil and potentially more affordable travel experience. If you don't mind occasional rain showers and prefer a quieter atmosphere, visiting during the shoulder months of June or November can be a good option.

For most Filipino travelers looking for the best balance of good weather and manageable crowds, the period from December to April is often recommended. This window falls within the dry season and offers consistently pleasant conditions for enjoying the beaches and the natural beauty of Siaton and the surrounding Dumaguete region.

However, if your priority is to avoid crowds and potentially save on travel expenses, consider visiting during the early part of the wet season (June-July) or the late part of the dry season (late April-May), provided you are prepared for the possibility of rain. Ultimately, Siaton offers a charming experience year-round, with each season presenting its unique advantages.

Food and Dining Near Siaton — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Negros Oriental, and by extension Siaton, offers a delightful culinary landscape that Filipino travelers will appreciate, often featuring fresh seafood and local produce. One dish you absolutely must try is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Prepared with fresh, raw fish (often tuna or tanigue) marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, it's a refreshing appetizer or light meal. The tanginess of the vinegar cuts through the richness of the fish, creating a perfectly balanced flavor.

Look for local eateries or carinderias in Siaton or nearby Dumaguete that serve freshly prepared Kinilaw, often made with fish caught that very day.

Another local specialty that showcases the region's bounty is SUTUKIL, a concept that stands for Sugba (grill), Tula (stew), and Kilaw (ceviche). Many restaurants in coastal areas like Siaton and Dumaguete offer SUTUKIL platters, allowing you to sample these three distinct preparations of fresh seafood. You can choose your preferred fish or seafood, and then have it grilled to perfection, simmered in a flavorful broth, or prepared as a zesty Kinilaw.

This is an excellent way to experience the versatility of local ingredients and enjoy a truly authentic Filipino seafood feast.

For those with a sweet tooth, don't leave Negros Oriental without trying Sans Rival. This is a rich, no-bake dessert made with layers of meringue, buttercream, and cashew nuts. The crispiness of the meringue combined with the creamy buttercream and the crunchy cashews creates a delightful texture and flavor profile. While it's a popular dessert throughout the Philippines, Negros Occidental and Oriental are particularly known for their excellent versions.

Many bakeries and cafes in Dumaguete offer Sans Rival, and it's a perfect treat to enjoy with a cup of local coffee after a savory meal.

Finally, for a taste of local comfort food, try offering a simple yet satisfying dish like Adobong Manok or Baboy (Chicken or Pork Adobo). While Adobo is a national dish, each region and household has its own unique twist. In Negros Oriental, you might find variations that emphasize a particular balance of soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. Exploring local eateries will allow you to discover these regional nuances.

Pair it with a generous serving of steamed rice for a complete and hearty Filipino meal.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Siaton

The culture in Siaton and the wider Negros Oriental region is generally warm and hospitable, characteristic of many Filipino communities. The local dialect is Cebuano, though Tagalog and English are widely understood, especially in tourist-related establishments. When interacting with locals, a friendly demeanor and a smile go a long way. It's customary to show respect to elders and to use polite forms of address.

If you are invited into someone's home, it's a sign of great hospitality; bringing a small token like some fruits or pastries is a thoughtful gesture.

When it comes to safety, Siaton is considered a relatively safe area for travelers. However, as with any destination, it's always wise to exercise common sense precautions. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places or when traveling at night. Avoid displaying large amounts of cash. For any emergencies, the local police can be reached at their station, and it's advisable to have the contact number of your accommodation readily available.

The nearest major hospital facilities are typically located in Dumaguete City.

For enhancing your travel experience in Siaton and the Philippines, several mobile applications can be very useful. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is essential for getting around, especially if you plan to explore independently. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used. If you're looking to book local transport or find information on attractions, the Traveloka app is invaluable, allowing you to book hotel rooms, flights, and even attractions seamlessly.

Having a local SIM card with a data plan can also be very helpful for staying connected and accessing these services on the go.

Sad to see what has become of a beautiful resort. Now dated and run down. Grounds are tidy. Pool heavily chlorinated but no filtration system. Dined with heavy smell of chlorine. Has the best views and still cliff top accommodation although run down units.

The view from the Sea View room was spectacular but the big private jetted tub in front of the room, that would have been great for a honeymooning couple like we were had no water to it and no drain plug. I didn't feel that the quality of the food was all that good either, example being the cream of mushroom soup, that seemed like canned soup really watered down.

Decent hotel but isolated - nice enough restaurant a bit pricey for the Philippines. Don't be fooled by the shuttle service they will try to charge 1350 piso each way although the shuttle should be free - they tell you that the hotel minivan is unavailable despite booking it well in advance. In a metered taxi the fare should be approx piso 300. Despite this con trick the hotel isn't bad and most staff are friendly and helpful

The Room advertised stated it could accomodate 3 guests One king size bed and one single Which was ideal for my partner and her girlfriend who was traveling with us On arrival at reception .We were informed we needed to pay extra for the third person I disputed this Showed them the booking and asked them to show where that's stated They agreed that the room could sleep 3 as stated but insisted on extra money The resort is a long way off the main road and after traveling so far they knew that they had a captive guest I said I am very unhappy with this lack of professional dealing and will say so in a review Warning The price you pay online may not actually pay for the room you have booked when you arrive

nice, friendly staff and beautiful setting. Food reasonably good. Pool excellent. Beach is wild and open. Mix-up with check-in - they didn't have my reservation. Eventually resolved.

It is a very good resort for a couple wanting a weekend to relax and spend quality time together. The presidential suite was terrific and made the weekend more special. The food was better than expected; However, the menu is quite limited. The service was very good and the staff was more than pleasant. The on-site library is terrific with more than 1,000 books to chose from. We would not hesitate to return to this special resort. The pools are fabulous and the views are spectacular.

the place is good for relaxing. but nothing much to do after dinner as the location is remote. we dined at their resto, we were very happy with the food. we occupied 3 rooms, one of the bathroom stinks. we informed them about it. aside from that, we enjoyed our stay. we enjoyed the pool & the room is clean. wifi is surprisingly fast too ( by philippine standard).

Very run down - we were the only guests for two days. Only salt water in the shower - when we ask the cleaner we got told that it has been broke for a long time - when I ask the manager it happened the same day, and it should get fixed the same day - it never got fixed during our 5 day stay. The food was discusting. The first breakfast I could not finish before I had to run to the bathroom. I guess since there are so few guests the food gets spoiled. The only good thing I can say about this place is the view.

Møkkete rom, dusjen på begge våre rom var det bare så vidt det kom vann ut av, møkete basseng, bassengområdet luktet vondt. Dårlig vedlikeholdt. Matservering tok 1 time og 45 minuter å få maten. Rettene vi fik som var for 1 persjon var like store som de vi fikk som var beregnet for 3 persjoner.
