There are a fair number of decent places to eat in walking distance. But you are not by a mall or anything like that. The area seems fairly safe.

Your Travel Guide to Quezon City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Quezon City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common method. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia offer frequent flights to Manila from various provincial capitals. Flight durations typically range from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your origin city. Expect fares to vary, but booking in advance can secure cheaper tickets. From NAIA, you can take a taxi, ride-sharing service, or the airport bus to reach Quezon City, with travel times ranging from 45 minutes to over an hour depending on traffic.

If you prefer land travel, buses are a viable option for reaching Quezon City from Luzon's northern and southern provinces. Major bus terminals in Cubao and Pasay City serve as hubs for inter-provincial bus routes. For example, a bus from Baguio City to Cubao typically takes around 4-6 hours and costs approximately PHP 500-700. Similarly, buses from Bicol provinces to Cubao can take 8-10 hours with fares around PHP 800-1200. From these terminals, you can easily find local transportation to your specific destination within Quezon City.

Driving to Quezon City is also an option for those coming from nearby provinces in Luzon. Major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connect to Metro Manila's road network. For instance, driving from Pampanga via NLEX to Quezon City might take around 2-3 hours, with toll fees adding to the travel cost. Planning your route and being aware of potential traffic congestion, especially during peak hours, is crucial for a smooth journey. Remember to book your flight or bus tickets early for the best deals.

Best Time to Visit Quezon City

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Quezon City is no exception. The dry season, generally from November to April, offers the most pleasant weather for exploring. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 33°C. This period, especially from December to February, is considered peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices.

The wet season runs from May to October, characterized by higher humidity and frequent rainfall, often in the form of afternoon thunderstorms. While this period might see fewer tourists and lower prices, it's essential to be prepared for potential travel disruptions due to heavy rains. Despite the rain, many attractions remain accessible, and the lush greenery offers a different kind of beauty. For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or February.

Food and Dining Near Quezon City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in Adobo, the unofficial national dish. This savory and tangy stew, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households. You can find excellent versions in local eateries and even in more upscale restaurants around Quezon City. Look for places that offer a slightly different twist, perhaps with added ingredients like potatoes or hard-boiled eggs.

Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, is another must-try. Made with a tamarind broth and a variety of meats (like pork, beef, or fish) and vegetables, it offers a comforting and refreshing taste, especially on a warm day. The sourness is a unique characteristic that many Filipinos love. Many carinderias (local eateries) and restaurants in Quezon City serve this dish, each with their own subtle variations.

For a taste of something truly Filipino, try Kare-Kare. This rich stew features oxtail and vegetables in a thick, savory peanut sauce, traditionally served with bagoong (fermented shrimp paste) on the side. The combination of the creamy peanut sauce and the slightly salty bagoong is a flavor profile that defines Filipino cuisine. Many restaurants near B Hotel Quezon City will have this on their menu.

Lechon, a whole roasted pig with crispy skin, is a celebratory dish often found at parties and gatherings. While a whole lechon might be too much for a solo traveler, many restaurants offer lechon as a main dish or in smaller portions, allowing you to savor its succulent meat and incredibly crunchy skin. It’s a culinary experience that embodies Filipino festivity and flavor.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Quezon City

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite demeanor and a smile go a long way. It's customary to use "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or those in authority as a sign of respect. While generally a safe city, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets and public transport terminals. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly.

For emergencies, remember that the national emergency hotline in the Philippines is 911. It's also helpful to have the contact numbers of your embassy or consulate readily available. When using ride-sharing apps or taxis, ensure the driver is legitimate and the vehicle matches the app's description. Walking in well-lit areas at night is generally safe, but it's always better to take a taxi or ride-sharing service for longer distances after dark.

To enhance your travel experience in Quezon City, consider downloading a few essential apps. Grab is indispensable for booking rides and food delivery, making transportation and dining convenient. Google Maps is crucial for navigation, helping you find your way around the city's complex road network. For communication, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used by locals. Having these apps on your smartphone will make your trip smoother and more enjoyable.

Overall the hotel was comfortable and clean and the customer service was great! Enjoyed the breakfast and cafe as well. However, our room increasingly started to smell like mildew and my friend’s shoes actually started growing mold on them. I was coughing and sneezing the whole time so I think they need to figure something out with all that…

For the past 3 years this has been our family’s hotel of choice mainly due to the staff and how friendly and helpful they are especially during breakfast. This time around the staff hardly paid attention to you. We had to get up and get our own utensils, condiments coffee and water. Or wait for a long time to get someone to acknowledge us. It’s usually not a problem for us to get it but 9 times out of 10 there was no water, no coffee etc. On the other hand the front desk staff, security, bell staff were amazing as usual! They went out of their way to meet our needs and treated us like family. B Hotel will always be our home away from home but hope the breakfast staff is better next time around.

We stayed in this hotel for almost a week. Vehicle entry to the hotel is up a steep, narrow, and winding alley. The street entry is up a two story staircase without elevator. The front desk servers and room staff are competent and friendly. The restaurant food we ate was under seasoned and poor quality. The restaurant and cafe staff border on incompetent. In one incidence, they left us unattended for several minutes, later bring one menu for two people. They failed to ask about the food, additional needs, empty plates, and requests for a bill. In one case, we waited more than 15 minutes before getting the bill, change, and a receipt after asking three people. Only the manager of food and beverages resolved the problem. Cafe staff requested payment, and then attended to other guests, phone calls, and waiters while letting you wait for change and a receipt! Room: the shower stall is mouldy. Next door noise is audible through the wireless router. The window blind is top-down and prevents using natural light if you also want privacy. Room lights are very dim and there is no light near mirrors to enable clearly shaving or placing make-up. Unnecessarily heavy duvets preordain using air conditioning (most Philippine hotels). Air conditioning in the hotel is excessively cold; thereby increasing the risk of getting sick from outdoor to indoor temperature changes. Excessive electricity use burdens the national system, increases the cost of electricity, pollution, and taxes.

Stayed for 5 days before my flight to Bali. Loved the ambiance, the masculine aesthetic of the spacious room, the friendly staff, the buffet breakfast (wish more fresh fruits were served though). As it was scorching outside, didn’t really mind staying inside my room most of the time. This property will be my hotel of choice next time I visit!

B Hotel Quezon City offers a fantastic European boutique feel with seamless service. The rooms are spacious, featuring a massive, comfy king bed and a unique bathroom design. I especially appreciated the water filters on every floor, the fast lifts, and the 24/7 security. The hotel is clean, well-maintained, and the breakfast buffet is great. Highly recommended!

Modern aesthetic, friendly staff, great location and superb cleanliness. Buffet breakfast has many options, with healthy food choices as well. Staff in their dining areas are very efficient. Kudos to their team leader Lyrienne and staff Karen and Lyka plus many more.

There are a fair number of decent places to eat in walking distance. But you are not by a mall or anything like that. The area seems fairly safe.

Had room service and had food poisoning. Front desk rings our room and when we called back completely ignored our calls. had to go to lobby to ask for assistance.
