Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers heading to Boracay Island, flying is the most efficient method. You can book a flight from Manila (MNL) or other major Philippine cities to either Caticlan Airport (MPH) or Kalibo International Airport (KLO). Flights to Caticlan are generally more convenient as it's closer to the jetty port, with fares typically ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 8,000 or more, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets.

From Kalibo, you'll need a longer bus or van transfer to Caticlan Jetty Port, which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. While flights to Kalibo might sometimes be cheaper, factor in the additional land transfer cost and time. Bus travel is also an option for the more adventurous and budget-conscious, with routes available from Manila to Caticlan, though this is a significantly longer journey, often taking 10-12 hours.

Once you reach Caticlan Jetty Port, you will take a 15-minute boat ride to Boracay Island. From the island's Cagban Port, a short tricycle ride will take you to your accommodation. Remember to factor in environmental and terminal fees at the port, which are standard for all travelers entering Boracay. Planning your transport in advance ensures a smoother transition to your island destination.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Boracay Island is no exception. The best time to visit Boracay is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to April. This period offers sunny skies, calm seas, and lower humidity, making it ideal for beach activities, swimming, and water sports. The peak season within this window is typically from December to February, when many locals and international tourists flock to the island.

For travelers looking to avoid the largest crowds while still enjoying good weather, the shoulder months of November and March to April are excellent choices. You'll find slightly fewer people and potentially better rates on accommodation and flights. The period from May to October is the wet season, characterized by higher chances of rain and stronger winds, which can sometimes affect sea conditions and outdoor activities.

While the wet season might see fewer tourists and lower prices, it also comes with the possibility of typhoons or prolonged rainfall. If your priority is guaranteed sunshine and calm waters for activities like island hopping or diving, sticking to the dry season is advisable. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Boracay's charm is undeniable, offering a unique experience for every Filipino traveler.

You can find authentic versions in local eateries and some of the more established restaurants on the island.

Don't leave Boracay without trying *Halo-Halo*, a fitting choice for Filipino dessert. This refreshing mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream is the perfect way to cool down. For a savory snack, *Chori Burger* and *Longga Burger* (chorizo and longganisa burgers) are popular street food finds, offering a burst of local flavor in a convenient bun.

Exploring the local food scene is a significant part of the Boracay experience. From roadside stalls selling *isaw* (grilled chicken intestines) to beachfront restaurants serving sophisticated Filipino dishes, there's something to satisfy every craving and budget.
