Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Getting to Boracay Island from Manila and other major Philippine cities is a common journey for many Filipinos. The most popular and efficient way is by air. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia operate frequent flights to Caticlan Airport (MPH), which is the closest airport to Boracay. Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes, with fares often ranging from PHP 2,500 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip, depending on booking time and promotions. You can easily book flight tickets on Traveloka to compare prices and schedules.

Alternatively, you can fly into Kalibo International Airport (KLO). Flights to Kalibo are sometimes cheaper, but the journey to Boracay is longer. From Kalibo, you'll need to take a bus or van to Caticlan Jetty Port, which takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. The combined cost of the flight and land transfer can still be competitive. For those who prefer land travel, buses are available from major terminals in Metro Manila to Caticlan, but this is a long journey, often exceeding 12 hours, and is generally less preferred by most travelers.

Once you reach Caticlan Jetty Port, you will need to pay terminal and environmental fees before boarding a boat (a 15-minute ride) to Boracay Island's Cagban Port. From Cagban Port, e-trikes are readily available to take you to your accommodation, including Boracay Midtown Hotel in Station 2. The entire process, from airport to hotel, typically takes about 30-45 minutes from Caticlan Airport and 2-3 hours from Kalibo Airport.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

Boracay Island experiences two main seasons: the dry season (Amihan) and the wet season (Habagat). The dry season, generally from November to May, is considered the peak tourist season. During these months, the weather is typically sunny with calm seas and gentle breezes, making it ideal for beach activities, swimming, and water sports. The period between December and February is particularly popular due to cooler temperatures and festive holiday vibes.

The wet season, from June to October, is characterized by stronger winds and occasional rainfall. While this period might see fewer crowds and potentially lower prices for accommodation and flights, it can also mean rougher seas and less predictable weather. For the best balance of good weather and manageable crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as late October to early November or late May to early June. These times often offer pleasant conditions without the peak season intensity.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Filipino cuisine is a highlight of any trip to the Philippines, and Boracay Island offers ample opportunities to savor local flavors. One dish you absolutely must try is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, typically tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. You can find excellent Kinilaw at many beachfront restaurants, often prepared with the catch of the day.

Another local favorite is La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo. While Boracay is not its origin, many eateries serve this comforting dish, featuring pork, shrimp, and vegetables in a rich broth. It's perfect for a satisfying meal, especially after a day of swimming or exploring. Look for smaller, local eateries away from the main tourist strips for more authentic versions.

Seafood is, of course, abundant and a must-try. Freshly grilled fish, prawns, and squid are readily available at seafood markets and restaurants across the island. Many establishments allow you to select your seafood and have it cooked to your preference. Don't forget to try Halo-Halo for dessert, a popular Filipino mixed-dessert with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream. It's the perfect cool treat on a hot Boracay day.

For a taste of authentic Filipino dishes, explore the eateries around D'Mall and the local markets. Many small carinderias offer delicious and affordable meals, giving you a true local dining experience. Trying these dishes is an integral part of understanding the local culture and enjoying the full spectrum of what Boracay has to offer.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boracay Island

Boracay Island is known for its friendly and welcoming local culture. While the island is a major tourist destination, respecting local customs is important. Dress modestly when visiting religious sites or venturing into local communities away from the beach. Always greet locals with a smile and be polite in your interactions. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for good service.

Safety is generally high in Boracay, but it's always wise to take precautions. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Avoid walking alone on deserted stretches of beach late at night. For any emergencies, Ciriaco S. Tirol Hospital is located nearby, and local police assistance is available. It's also a good idea to note down the hotel's contact number and the local emergency hotline.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps can help you find your way around the island. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Messenger are widely used. If you plan on booking activities or tours on the go, the Traveloka app is invaluable for managing your bookings and discovering new experiences. Having these tools readily available can make your trip smoother and more enjoyable.

First of all. The building looks like its under construction. Second. The door going to the lobby is broken, when we got there the lights were out and it was extremely hotel at 1pm. No one was waiting at the lobby, we had to call someone up and down. When we were checking in, the staff was very unprofessional. Our room? Don't know where to begin, stains all over the bed sheets, window broken, room smells like a storage, toilet was yuck. It was not humane to stay in the room. We checked out straightaway, and even when we checked out the staff was just ok bye. I showed him why (the staings and everything that was broke) he only said ooh ok. Please spend an extra $ 5 to stay somewhere way nicer than this place.

Prior to my arrival at the hotel, no one contacted me whatsoever about my whereabouts or what time I would arrive. Upon arrival, they didn't seem to be expecting me and had to wait in the lobby for a while before they let me inside my room. Overall, the hotel staff was not always around at the reception, so if you need anything you can't always rely on them. Lastly, the room was not that good but okay for the price. The hotel was not that new and you can notice the interior finishes are not well-maintained. A great budget hotel at a fair price!

This is my go-to place when I am vacationing in Boracay. It is a quiet place and a short walk to the beach. It is near restaurants and food places. Highly recommended if you want a place that is within a budget.

We would highly recommend this very affordable hotel but with a decent clean room. We have enjoyed our stay here as we had easily accessed the beach front in just a 2-3 minutes of walking. We thought there were no hot shower available in the bathroom but just wait for a few minutes until the water comes warm. Don't be deceived by the their lobby/front desk area and see the room for yourself to appreciate. Again thank you!

My only concern is the weak shower and no slippers. Overall it's ok because I always stay there when I go to Boracay. I've been to this hotel 3 times. Thanks!

The room smells good. You won't expect it to be that clean and spacious and comfortable until you're inside your room. They don't brag anything, they just serve you the best.

No signage or name of the hotel.flash of toilet is not working. i told to the staff that it should have been fix since there will be an upcoming guest to stay. instead, i ask them to move us on a different room however, it is very different from what we have availed. the smell of the room is different after a day. they only spray a good scent when we arrived.

We had a hard time locating this hotel since there's no name or signages. The room is decent but looks old. We booked another room from another hotel since we're not comfortable with the vibe of this hotel.

The facility needs to be renovated, air-conditioning room 201 and room 205 where we first stay doesn't function well that we opted for electric fan instead, luckily on our 3rd day and 4th day we got room 203 that have cooler aircon, door of CR and bath room sink need to be fix.

The room is OK but a little bit dirty in many corners of the room. No toiletries just towel only. No complimentary water even shampoo or soap.

Always a great stay for me. I like the peace and quiet wherein you can relax on your vacation without distractions. Affordable rates compared to others. Walking distance to the beach and food shops. Highly recommended for their location. My first choice always when visiting Boracay.

I had a good stay here and always choose this place because it 's quiet and affordable. It is very close to the beach, a short walk to food places, and the main road. I will always come back to this place because it is very relaxing and always get a good night 's sleep.

The TV speaker is broken. Only one keycard was provided and they lost the master key incase the door is locked you can't go inside the room without their master key for emergency. They didn't offer to replace the room due the first night due to TV speaker broken. It was so unclean! The staff is not very cooperating and they don't want me to talk to the manager. It was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in Boracay
