booked it for a friend on a budget, they said it was comfortable, staff were very friendly and will go out of their way to help you, right in front of the beach, over all a very good experience and a nice hotel on a budget, but don't expect 5 star hotel on a 1 or 2 star cost, it's very nice for the price.

Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Getting to Boracay Island from Manila and other major Philippine cities is a common travel plan for many Filipinos. The most popular route involves flying into either Caticlan Airport (MPH) or Kalibo International Airport (KLO). Flights from Manila to Caticlan typically range from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets. The flight duration is about 1 hour.

From Caticlan Airport, it's a short tricycle ride (around PHP 50-100) to the Caticlan Jetty Port. Here, you'll pay terminal fees (around PHP 150) and environmental fees (around PHP 300) before boarding a 15-minute boat ride to Boracay's Cagban Port. Upon arrival in Boracay, another tricycle ride (around PHP 100-150) will take you to your accommodation. If you fly into Kalibo, expect a 1.5 to 2-hour van or bus ride (around PHP 250-350) to Caticlan Jetty Port, adding to your travel time and cost.

For those preferring a land and sea journey, buses from Manila to Caticlan are available, with fares typically ranging from PHP 1,500 to PHP 2,500 for a 10-12 hour trip. This option is more budget-friendly but significantly longer. Driving your own vehicle is also possible, involving a ferry crossing from Batangas to Caticlan, but this is a more complex and time-consuming option for most travelers.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

The ideal time to visit Boracay Island for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which generally runs from November to April. This period offers sunny skies, calm seas, and lower humidity, making it perfect for beach activities, swimming, and water sports. The peak season within this dry spell is typically from December to February, when the weather is at its best, but crowds and prices are also at their highest.

For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or late April to early May. The "Amihan" season (November to May) brings gentle northeast winds, ideal for sailing and enjoying the beaches. The "Habagat" season (June to October) brings stronger winds and occasional rain, which can be great for surfing but may disrupt other activities.

If you're looking for the most budget-friendly time to visit, the months of June to October, despite the possibility of rain, often see lower accommodation rates and fewer tourists. However, be prepared for potential weather disruptions. Planning your trip during the dry season, especially outside of major holidays like Christmas and Holy Week, will generally provide the most pleasant experience.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Boracay Island offers a culinary landscape that blends local Filipino flavors with international influences, but exploring authentic Filipino dishes is a must. One staple you should seek out is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche, typically made with fresh raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. It’s a refreshing appetizer perfect for the tropical climate.

Another must-try is La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo, which is popular across the Philippines. This rich broth filled with pork innards, shrimp, and vegetables offers a comforting and flavorful experience, especially after a day at the beach. Many local eateries and even some restaurants on the island serve this delicious dish.

For seafood lovers, grilled items are paramount. Head to the Talipapa market where you can buy fresh catch like prawns, squid, and various fish, then have them cooked to your liking at a nearby paluto restaurant. Whether grilled, steamed, or fried, the freshness of the seafood is unparalleled. Don't forget to try some Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, often made with tamarind broth and your choice of meat or seafood.

Finally, for a sweet ending, indulge in Halo-Halo. This iconic Filipino dessert is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s the perfect way to cool down and satisfy your sweet tooth on a warm Boracay afternoon.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boracay Island

When visiting Boracay Island, respecting local customs is key to a harmonious trip. Filipinos are generally warm and hospitable; a simple "po" and "opo" (polite particles) when speaking to elders or service staff goes a long way. Be mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas, and always dispose of trash properly to help maintain the island's pristine environment.

Safety is a priority for any traveler. Boracay is generally safe, but it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying large amounts of cash. For emergencies, the local police hotline is usually available through your accommodation or by dialing 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers for your embassy or consulate readily accessible.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is indispensable for navigating the island. Ride-hailing apps might not be as prevalent as in major cities, but local transport information can often be found through travel forums or your hotel. Weather apps are crucial for planning your daily activities, especially during the rainy season.

Additionally, having a communication app like WhatsApp or Messenger is useful for staying in touch with travel companions or coordinating with tour operators. Familiarizing yourself with these tools before you arrive can significantly enhance your experience and peace of mind during your Boracay adventure.

Bedroom is very nice. Has hot and cold shower. AC is not strong enough to cool the entire room in a short time but is still good. What I like the most is that we are allowed to put our things in our reserved room when we checked in at past 12nn even though the check in time is at 2pm. Owner and staff is accommodating and approachable.

Pros: The staff and owner are friendly and accommodating. The location is beachfront and the price is very budget friendly. Comes with a hot and cold shower, a/c and a cable TV. They keep the place and surrounding clean. Cons: The floors and walls are made of wood so you can hear people walking and talking outside. We made sure to walk slowly inside our room (2nd floor) to avoid disturbing those who are beside and beneath it. There are mosquitoes inside the room but we managed to kill them all. Haha The water from the lavatory had a nasty smell and tasted really bad so we just used mineral water when we brushed our teeth. Overall, I’d still recommend this place most especially if you are on a budget and wanted to relax and chill and enjoy the quieter side of Boracay.

We had an enjoyable stay at Morning Beach Resort. Sir Rio and his wife were very accommodating, kind and hospitable. We arrived early and they let us check-in right away! Really appreciated it because we had two makukulit na kids ages 2 and 5 yrs old. I recommend this resort for those on a tight budget yet wants a comfortable place to sleep after a busy day in Boracay. Free drinking water and hot water too for all their guests. They also offer to lend you beach toys for kids. Nice location, beach was just outside the resort, few steps and you're good to swim. You will never get hungry because there's Greenstop (a convenience store open 24 hrs) beside the resort, everything you need is there! 711 is also near the resort. There's also a diveshop outside, if you're into diving. You can also find lot of agencies offering different kinds of activities, water sports, etc. outside. So convenient! Its in station 3 so walkathon ang peg if you'll be going to station 1, but there are "padyaks" everywhere if you're tamad. There were racks where you can hang your wet clothes and towels. There's also a cabinet inside your room for your bag storage. Hot and cold shower is also available. All your basic needs are there. One thing though, there were mosquito. Well, just bring insect repellent. Overall, 5 stars for this resort! Will definitely come back if there's a chance.

We stayed here on oct 5- oct8. Very nice staff really accommodating especially the owner. we check in late but they really accommodating they wait us to arrive even until midnight. The good things also our original booked room was standard aircon but gave us a family aircon with two double bed with no extra charge and also they allowed us to check out late for almost 8 hours extended hours for just minimal fee. the location is good beachfront. just a few steps to the beach. the rate is affordable very much affordable. exceed my expectation feels like homestay. if your looking for budget but good accommodation its the best the cheap but quality. Feels like homestay.

Overall good stay except for some unruly guests on the 2nd floor who kept us awake during sleep hours. It's made of light materials so there will be a lot of creaking sound.
