Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For the most convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For most Filipino travelers, flying is the most efficient way to reach Boracay Island. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia operate frequent flights from Manila (MNL) to Caticlan Airport (MPH), which is the closest airport to Boracay. Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes, with fares often ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip, depending on booking time and promotions.

Alternatively, you can fly into Kalibo International Airport (KBO). Flights to Kalibo are sometimes cheaper, but the journey to Boracay Island is longer, involving a 1.5 to 2-hour bus or van ride to Caticlan Jetty Port, followed by the boat transfer. This option might appeal to budget-conscious travelers looking to book flight deals.

For those who prefer land travel or are coming from nearby provinces, bus services are available to Caticlan Jetty Port. Buses depart from major terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao and Pasay. The journey is long, typically taking 10-12 hours, with fares ranging from PHP 1,000 to PHP 2,000. This is a more economical choice but requires a significant time commitment.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

The dry season, from November to April, is generally considered the best time to visit Boracay Island. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, calm seas, and pleasant weather, perfect for beach activities and water sports. This period includes the peak season from December to February, when the island is most crowded and prices for accommodation and flights tend to be higher.

For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or late April to early May. The "Amihan" season (northeast monsoon) brings calmer seas and less humidity. The "Habagat" season (southwest monsoon), from May to October, can bring rain and stronger winds, though Boracay remains beautiful and offers different experiences, often at lower prices.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Boracay is complete without indulging in fresh seafood. Many restaurants along White Beach offer a wide selection, from grilled fish and squid to prawns and crabs. Look for establishments that allow you to choose your seafood directly from the display and have it cooked to your preference.

Kinilaw, a Filipino ceviche, is a must-try. Prepared with raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili, it’s a refreshing and flavorful dish that perfectly complements the tropical climate. You'll find excellent versions at local eateries and even some of the more upscale restaurants on the island.

Halo-halo, the iconic Filipino dessert, is another treat you should seek out. This delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream, is the ultimate refreshment. Many stalls and cafes offer their unique take on this beloved dessert.

For a taste of local comfort food, try La Paz Batchoy or Mami noodles. These hearty noodle soups are perfect for a quick, satisfying meal, especially on a cooler evening or after a day of swimming. You can find these and other Filipino favorites at various eateries scattered across the island, including those near Boracay Peninsula.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boracay Island

Boracay Island is known for its friendly locals and laid-back atmosphere. While the island is a popular tourist destination, it's important to be respectful of local customs. Dress modestly when visiting religious sites and be mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas. Always greet locals with a smile and a polite "Magandang araw" (Good day).

Safety is generally high on Boracay, but it's always wise to take precautions. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Avoid walking alone on deserted stretches of beach late at night. For emergencies, note down the local police hotline and the nearest hospital contact information.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application will help you navigate the island. Ride-hailing apps are not prevalent on Boracay due to its size and pedestrian-friendly nature, but local tricycle booking services might be available. A currency converter app can be useful for managing your budget, and Traveloka's app is indispensable for booking accommodations and activities on the go.

The staff here from check in to check out were top notch. The property seems to be a bit older but the beds are amazingly comfortable, AC works perfectly, property is literally on the beach in station 2. There is a restaurant on the first floor which I did not try with live singing every evening. Entrance is about a 5 minute walk from where tricycles will drop you off but nice location.

Great place and right by the beach. The room is a little dated but still comfortable. No hot water in the shower though if you're expecting that. Wi-Fi is decent. What's nice also is there are designated lounge chairs on the beach that are only for hotel guests, first come first serve though. It's in Station 2 and about a 5 min walk to DMall. Plenty of food places along the way and stores to buy souvenirs.

There is NO pool. The place is rundown with mould everywhere. It looks like they might have tried to renovate but maybe still in the process of completing. Bugs on the floors and not cleaned properly daily as same sand was on the floor for the whole 10 days. A band plays until 10pm and would be loud enough to keep you awake if that would bother you. Positive’s are close/right on the beach and breakfast although had 12 options it was all very good.

Everything there is old and rusty , start from the keys of the room , bottom refrigerator and towel rack , the only thing I like is the bed , they are comfortable, the bathroom is the worse , leaking shower, We aren’t happy about , we complain but it’s not the employees fault it’s the owner, they don’t fix things right

The staffs were helpful, the accommodation is ok for the price. The whole stay is ok for 2-3star hotel. What matters is the family bonding..

Easy access to D'mall, resto, spa etc. Good value for your money. Staff are friendly but they are always preoccupied with their cellphones. I think they need to improve their customers service specially the guards.
