The hotel is beach front which is great. But the best part of my experience was how great the staff were. With the closure of Boracay, the hotel was still in the process of renovation and is not supposed to open until 11/15/18, but for some reason I was able to booked it on Expedia. I have heard stories about people loosing their reservations due to hotels not being ready. But instead of being left high and dry, Boracay Sands Hotel accommodated me and did what they can to make my Boracay trip a great experience. My room comes with free breakfast, but as mentioned they're not yet open for business, so they instead delivered my breakfast to my room. There's a lot to say about how great their staff are. Let just say that this trip could have easily ended up as a nightmare, but instead they made it great for me that Boracay Sands Hotel will be my go to hotel on my future trips to this beautiful island.

Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most common way to reach Boracay Island from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. Several airlines operate flights to Caticlan Airport (MPH), which is the closest airport to Boracay, or to Kalibo International Airport (KLO). Flights from Manila to Caticlan typically take about 1 hour and 15 minutes, with fares ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 or more, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets. Flights to Kalibo are often slightly cheaper but require a longer land transfer (around 1.5 to 2 hours) to Caticlan Jetty Port.

For those who prefer land travel or are coming from nearby provinces, bus services are available. Buses from Manila typically depart from terminals in Pasay or Cubao and head towards Caticlan. The journey is long, usually taking 10 to 12 hours, with fares ranging from PHP 1,000 to PHP 1,500. This option is more budget-friendly but significantly more time-consuming.

Driving your own vehicle is also an option, especially for travelers coming from Luzon. You would drive south towards Batangas, take a ferry to Calapan in Mindoro, and then continue driving towards Caticlan. This route involves significant driving time and ferry costs, making it a less common choice for those coming from distant locations like Manila. Planning your route and potential overnight stops is crucial if you choose this method.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

Boracay Island experiences two main seasons: the dry season (Amihan) from November to May, and the wet season (Habagat) from June to October. The dry season is generally considered the best time to visit, with sunny skies, calm seas, and lower humidity. This period, particularly from November to April, offers ideal conditions for beach activities, water sports, and enjoying the island's natural beauty.

The peak season typically falls between December and February, coinciding with Christmas holidays and cooler weather in many parts of the Philippines. During this time, expect higher prices for flights and accommodation, and more crowds. For a balance of good weather and fewer people, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or May. The wet season, while bringing occasional rain, can offer lower prices and a more tranquil atmosphere for those unfazed by the possibility of occasional showers.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in local flavors, and Boracay offers plenty. Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, is a national favorite, often made with pork, shrimp, or fish. Its tangy broth, usually flavored with tamarind, is incredibly comforting. Look for it in local eateries or restaurants that pride themselves on authentic Filipino cuisine.

Adobo, the unofficial national dish, is a must-try. Whether it's chicken, pork, or a combination, the meat is braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, resulting in a rich, savory flavor. Many restaurants on White Beach offer their own versions, each with a unique twist. Another Filipino staple is Lechon, a whole roasted pig known for its crispy skin and succulent meat. While a whole lechon is a feast, you can often find lechon portions in restaurants.

For seafood lovers, grilled fish and other fresh catches are abundant in Boracay. Many beachfront restaurants allow you to choose your fish and have it grilled to perfection. Pair it with a side of Ensaladang Talong (grilled eggplant salad) or Lato (sea grapes), a type of seaweed salad that offers a refreshing, briny taste. These simple yet delicious dishes highlight the freshness of the island's produce.

Don't forget to try Halo-Halo for dessert, a popular Filipino mixed-dessert made with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream. It's the perfect way to cool down on a hot Boracay afternoon. For these culinary delights, explore the various eateries along White Beach, from the more casual stalls near Boat Station 3 to the established restaurants around D'Mall.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boracay Island

Filipinos are known for their hospitality, and Boracay is no exception. A friendly "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Respect local customs by dressing modestly when not on the beach or in tourist areas. Be mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas, and always ask permission before taking photos of people.

Safety in Boracay is generally good, but it's always wise to take precautions. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Avoid walking alone on deserted stretches of beach late at night. For emergencies, the local police can be reached at (036) 288-3105, and the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center is also available. Always stay hydrated and use sun protection.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is crucial for navigating the island. For communication, apps like WhatsApp or Messenger are widely used. If you plan on booking activities or tours on the go, having the Traveloka app installed will give you access to a wide range of options.

Familiarize yourself with basic Tagalog phrases, though English is widely spoken and understood in Boracay. Understanding local etiquette, such as removing your shoes before entering someone's home, is also appreciated. Being informed and respectful will ensure a more enriching and harmonious visit to this beautiful island destination.

We thought the property was nice enough, but quite expensive compared to other options in the area for not much extra. We had to change rooms to get the room type we requested, and the room we ultimately ended up in had construction going on in the hiding next to it, even through the evening, so sleep was difficult. The staff was generally very friendly.

If you're looking for a cost effective hotel with a fantastic view and friendly staff this might be the one for you. We rented the Executive Suite because of the beach front balcony and it did not disappoint. The room had a new AC with great furnishings and very attentive staff and the price was within our budget. So let me get to the things you might want to consider for this particular hotel. It's in station 3 very near to where all the boats dock on the beach. While this does not affect your ability to use the beach it does mean that there are always boats coming and going from in front of the hotel. In addition, when the cruise ships dock, they ferry their guests to a floating dock in this area of the beach which means it gets crowded with cruise tourists hopping off the boat. They will try to take one of the limited umbrella stations reserved for the hotel but the guards are good at keeping them at bay. The pool is in the center of the complex and the kids will yell and scream echoing throughout the hotel making it difficult to rest should you need it from the night before. I would definitely recommend the private transfer from and to the resort as the general admission version from the airport leaves you short with a 200yd walk to the beach front (this is where you check in). Overall, the staff made up for any complaints and if you're looking for a great price on an ocean front suite, this is definitely a good choice. The next time I go I'll try to stay at station 1.

My second stay at this hotel. Whilst happy with the experience, I thought it was starting to look a little dated (previous stay 4 years ago). Some of the room wiring decidedly dodgy and they had to give me a masterkey for the safe because the codes wouldn't work reliably. Breakfast buffet quite ordinary - overshadowed by offerings at newer hotels nearby.

Getting to d hotel from d boat terminal in station 3 was a bad experience. Driver of commuter plying d route dropped us off d'mall intersection ( ph50). We were expected to walk at least 5 mins to our hotel. But our hotel is accessible thru e'mall intersection. So from d'mall intersection to e'mall we had to take another tricycle ph50.

Nice hotel at a good price but every time it rained sewage from all the buildings along the seafront spilled out into the sea. It stinks

We stayed in a deluxe room for 4D3N. Our room was just a few steps from the pool. It was raining most of the time during our stay but we didn't mind because we spent our time in the pool while waiting for the rain to stop. The hotel was generally good in terms of ambiance, facilities, and servicing personnel. I would love to come back and stay here again.

We thought the property was nice enough, but quite expensive compared to other options in the area for not much extra. We had to change rooms to get the room type we requested, and the room we ultimately ended up in had construction going on in the hiding next to it, even through the evening, so sleep was difficult. The staff was generally very friendly.

Beach-side hotel, good location, very friendly and helpful staff, good in-house spa, the breakfast selection is fairly limited, good bar with happy hour(s), the music selection in the bar could be improved though to better suit the mood.

It's amazing. Had small issues, but the staff responded efficiently to our complaint. They really care about their guests. The room with ocean view was fantastic. Sunset view on the balcony was very nice. Room is very modern and spacious. Location is great too, a few minutes walk to S2. Breakfast is so so
