Everything was so nice. Clean room , very friendly and helpful. It would make made a huge difference if we could have had loungers or seats on the beach. Being older it’s not easy to sit on the sand. Other than that I would definitely return. The location and beach was awesome.

Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Getting to Boracay Island from Manila and other major Philippine cities is primarily done through air travel. The closest airport is Caticlan (MPH), which is just a short boat ride away from Boracay. Alternatively, you can fly into Kalibo International Airport (KLO), which is about a 1.5 to 2-hour bus or van ride from Caticlan Jetty Port. Flights from Manila to Caticlan typically range from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets.

For travelers on a tighter budget, bus travel is an option, though it is significantly longer. From Manila, you can take a bus directly to Caticlan, a journey that can last 10 to 14 hours. The fare usually ranges from PHP 1,000 to PHP 2,000. This option is best suited for those who prefer to save on airfare and don't mind the extended travel time, allowing for scenic views of the Philippine countryside.

Once you arrive at either Caticlan or Kalibo airport, you will need to take a tricycle or van to the Caticlan Jetty Port. From there, you'll purchase a boat ticket and pay environmental and terminal fees to cross to Boracay Island's Cagban Port. The boat ride itself is brief, usually around 15 minutes. Upon arrival at Cagban Port, another tricycle ride will take you to your specific accommodation on the island.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

The ideal time to visit Boracay Island for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. Within this period, the months of December to February are considered peak season, offering the most favorable weather with sunny skies and calm seas. This is when the island is at its most beautiful, perfect for beach activities and water sports.

However, the shoulder months, such as November and March to May, also provide excellent weather conditions and may offer slightly fewer crowds and potentially better rates on accommodations and flights. If you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere and still want to enjoy the island's beauty, these periods are highly recommended. The weather remains consistently good, making it a great time for a comfortable stay.

The wet season, from June to October, brings a higher chance of rain and stronger winds, which can sometimes affect water activities. While this period sees fewer tourists and lower prices, it's important to be prepared for potential weather disruptions. For those who don't mind occasional rain showers and are looking for the most budget-friendly options, the wet season can still be a viable choice.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When visiting Boracay Island, Filipino travelers should definitely indulge in fresh seafood, a staple of island cuisine. Many restaurants along White Beach offer a wide selection of grilled fish, prawns, squid, and shellfish, often prepared simply to highlight their natural flavors. Look for places that display their catch of the day, allowing you to choose your meal directly.

Another must-try is Halo-Halo, a fitting choice for Filipino dessert. This refreshing concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream is the perfect way to cool down on a hot day. You can find excellent Halo-Halo at local eateries and even some of the more established restaurants across the island.

For a taste of local comfort food, try Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, usually tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. It’s a tangy and zesty dish that perfectly complements the tropical setting. Many local carinderias and restaurants serve this popular appetizer.

Don't leave Boracay without trying Chori Burger, a local street food favorite. This grilled chorizo sausage served in a bun, often with a special sauce and some pickled vegetables, is a delicious and convenient snack or light meal. It’s widely available from food stalls, especially in the more populated areas of White Beach.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boracay Island

When interacting with locals on Boracay Island, always maintain a respectful demeanor. Filipinos are generally warm and hospitable, and a simple "po" and "opo" (yes, respectfully) goes a long way. Be mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas, and always ask permission before taking photos of people. Understanding and respecting local customs will enhance your interactions.

Safety on Boracay Island is generally good, but it's always wise to take precautions. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. It’s advisable to swim only in designated areas and be cautious of strong currents. For emergencies, note down the local police and medical service numbers, which are readily available online or from your accommodation.

For a smoother trip, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is crucial for navigating the island. Ride-hailing apps or local transport apps can help you find tricycles or other transport options. Weather apps are also useful for keeping track of the forecast during your stay. Finally, having the Traveloka app handy will allow you to manage your bookings and discover new places.

Standard rooms are very basic. Shower heater doesn’t work and needs replacing. Lots of mosquitoes with nasty bites. Aircon works ok. Large king size bed. A few steps away to a quiet beach but located in the north end of the white beach. If you want to avoid the busy areas of the white beach, this area is the ideal location. Rates are in the low end but you get what you pay for.
