The hotel is right across the street from the bus terminal. It was a very short walk. Our departure bus was late evening and we paid 500 pesos to remain in room until 5 pm. Then they were nice enough to keep our bags 2 more hours. The staff was helpful and polite. Response to our needs was almost instant.

Your Travel Guide to Naga as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Naga from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers heading to Naga from Manila, flying is the quickest option. Several airlines operate flights to Naga Airport (Pili Airport) from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). The flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but you can typically expect prices to range from PHP 2,500 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip if you book flight tickets in advance. From Pili Airport, a taxi or pre-arranged car service to CBD Plaza Hotel in Naga City will take about 30-40 minutes and cost around PHP 500-800.

If you prefer a more budget-friendly and scenic journey, taking a bus from Manila to Naga is a popular choice. Major bus terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Cubao and Pasay, offer numerous daily trips to Naga City. Companies like Bicol Isarog, Cagsawa Travel, and Penafrancia operate these routes. The journey is considerably longer, typically taking between 8 to 10 hours, depending on traffic and stops.

Bus tickets usually range from PHP 800 to PHP 1,500 for a one-way trip, with options for standard or executive class seating. This is a great option for those who want to see the countryside unfold.

For travelers coming from Visayas or Mindanao, flying into Naga Airport (Pili Airport) is still the most efficient method. You would likely connect through Manila or Cebu. Alternatively, if you are already in the Bicol region or nearby provinces, driving or taking a provincial bus might be feasible. For those driving from Manila, the journey involves taking the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then the Pan-Philippine Highway.

The total driving distance is around 480 kilometers, and it typically takes 8-9 hours without significant stops. Toll fees can add up, so factor that into your budget.

Best Time to Visit Naga

Naga City experiences a tropical climate, characterized by warm temperatures and humidity throughout the year. The dry season generally runs from November to May, offering sunny days and lower chances of rain, making it an ideal period for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions. This is often considered the peak tourist season, especially around the Christmas holidays and the Penafrancia Festival in September. During these months, expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices.

The wet season typically spans from June to October. While this period sees more rainfall, it doesn't mean constant downpours. Often, the rain comes in heavy but short bursts, usually in the afternoon, leaving the rest of the day clear. Traveling during the wet season can be advantageous if you prefer fewer crowds and potentially lower prices for flights and hotels. It's also a time when the surrounding landscapes are lush and green.

However, it's crucial to pack accordingly with rain gear and be prepared for possible travel disruptions due to weather.

For a balanced experience, the shoulder months of November and February to April can be excellent. You'll likely encounter pleasant weather with fewer tourists than the absolute peak season, allowing for a more relaxed exploration of Naga and its surroundings. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Naga City offers a rich cultural experience and warm hospitality to Filipino travelers.

Food and Dining Near Naga — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Bicolano cuisine is renowned for its bold flavors, particularly its generous use of chilies and coconut milk. A dish you absolutely must try is **Bicol Express**. Despite its name, this is not a mode of transport but a rich, spicy stew made with pork, shrimp paste (bagoong), coconut milk, and a generous amount of chilies. The creamy texture of the coconut milk balances the heat of the chilies, creating a complex and satisfying flavor profile.

You can find excellent Bicol Express in many local eateries and restaurants around Naga City; look for places that locals frequent for the most authentic taste.

Another local delicacy that showcases the region's love for seafood and spice is **Sinantol**. This dish features grated gabi (taro) or santol fruit cooked in coconut milk with fish or shrimp and chilies. The texture is unique, often described as creamy and slightly stringy, and the flavor is a delightful mix of savory, spicy, and subtly tangy notes. It's evidence of the Bicolano ingenuity in using local ingredients to create flavorful dishes.

Many carinderias and local restaurants will offer this, especially during lunch hours.

For those who enjoy something a bit different, **Laing** is a must-try. This dish consists of dried taro leaves stewed in coconut milk with chilies and sometimes pork or fish. The slow cooking process allows the flavors to meld beautifully, resulting in a tender, flavorful dish with a distinct earthy taste. The spiciness can vary, so it's always good to ask about the heat level.

Laing is a staple in Bicolano households and a true representation of the region's culinary heritage.

Don't leave Naga without trying **Kinunot**. This dish is typically made with shark meat (or sometimes stingray) cooked in coconut milk with ginger, onions, garlic, and chilies. The name "kinunot" refers to the shredded or flaked texture of the meat. It's a flavorful and protein-rich dish that offers a different culinary experience. The combination of tender fish and the rich, spicy coconut sauce is truly distinctive. Many restaurants serving Bicolano specialties will have this on their menu.

Finally, for a sweet treat or a refreshing snack, try **Pili Nuts**. These nuts, native to the Bicol region, are often candied or roasted and salted. They have a rich, buttery flavor and a satisfying crunch. You can find them in various forms – plain roasted, caramelized, or even as an ingredient in pastries and desserts. They make for a perfect pasalubong (souvenir) to bring home for family and friends, offering a taste of Bicol that lasts.

Exploring these dishes will give you a true appreciation for the culinary landscape of Naga.

It's okay, but probably wouldn't come back next time I'm in Naga city. We paid for early check-in and when we got to our room, it wasn't cleaned well and the bed wasn't made well, but we were so tired from our trip that we waited until the next day for them to clean the room (and my cleanfreak mom sanitized every surface already). The next day, the bed was made well and the floors noticeably cleaner. Free breakfast was ok, a little inconsistent (food was sometimes cold). Front desk was friendly and helpful, but any time we needed something that they couldn't give to us directly at the front desk, rarely got to our room. Ex. We asked for more towels and they said they'd bring it to our room. We probably asked 4 times during the trip and they gave extra towels once. Would not recommend unless you prioritize convenience (next to 7-Eleven, a korean convenience store, lcc, sm mall, and the bus terminal is judt across the street).

I have actually travelled here before and it was fine. I drank because I felt it unfair that they spring on you that drinking is not allowed. The last time I booked it again and forgot this fact. I don’t know why they don’t allow drinking I just think it should be very obvious that you aren’t allowed from their thing on Expedia. It was about four in the morning I just got off a bus and I wanted to sleep, I wanted to have a couple drinks before that. I had to sign a paper agreeing that I wouldn’t drink or that I would be fined 2000 pesos. Don’t know how that’s any of their bussiness if I’m not causeing a problem. The lady showed the opposite of urgency to get us into our room. No one helped us with our bags. I diddnt drink the last time I went there because I was signing an agreement. I don’t think that agreement should be binding if they don’t have that info on Expedia. The people are nice enough, I was just quite grumpy and being an adult and having someone say they are gonna charge me a fine money for having a couple drinks in my own room. I’m hoping I can remember that is their policy and I won’t go there. Shame because it’s affordable enough and close to the bus stop so I would maybe go there again but I have a huge problem with that particular property and I was very unhappy with the sogo hotel that’s right next door last time so I suppose it’s nagaland. I reccomend nagaland for a weary traveller if you are looking for affordability

Hotels.com are liars and thieves. The hotel was underwater from a flood. Hotel.com knew this and still booked my room. Neither hotel.com, nor the hotel itself will give a refund on a room that was under water when booked.

The air conditioning is barely working and not cooling the small room I checked in. I have to ask the staff to give me extra door badge to keep the A/C running if I’m out otherwise the room will always be hot when you come back for quick groceries or errands. Room is small. Bed, linens and pillow is okay. Area is safe. Conveniently located across the SM Naga. There’s 7-11 that is nearby as well as different restaurants. This is the typical you get what you paid for. For 2,000 pesos a day or $35 dollars you can’t really ask for anything else.
