Your Travel Guide to Talisay as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Talisay from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers heading to Talisay, Batangas, the journey typically begins in Metro Manila. The most common and economical way to travel is by bus. Several bus companies operate routes from major terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Cubao, Pasay (Buendia), and Alabang, heading towards Batangas City. From Batangas City, you can then take a local bus or a jeepney to Talisay.

The total travel time by bus from Manila to Talisay can range from 3 to 4.5 hours, depending on traffic and the specific route. Bus fares are generally affordable, usually falling between PHP 300 to PHP 500 for a one-way ticket. Booking your bus tickets in advance is recommended, especially during long weekends or holidays.

If you prefer to fly, the nearest international airport is Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. From NAIA, you would need to take a taxi or a bus to one of the aforementioned bus terminals to catch a bus to Batangas. While flying directly to Batangas isn't an option, booking a book flight to Manila is the first step for many travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, like Cebu or Davao.

For instance, a flight from Cebu to Manila typically takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes, with fares varying widely but often ranging from PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip if booked in advance.

For those driving their own vehicles, the journey from Manila to Talisay is primarily via the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the STAR Tollway. The drive is scenic, passing through various provinces. The total distance is roughly 120-140 kilometers, and the estimated driving time is around 2 to 3 hours without significant traffic. Toll fees will apply, so it’s advisable to have cash ready.

Driving offers the most flexibility, allowing you to stop at points of interest along the way and explore Talisay and its surroundings at your own pace.

Best Time to Visit Talisay

Talisay, like much of the Philippines, experiences a tropical climate characterized by two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season generally runs from November to April, offering the most favorable weather for outdoor activities and exploration. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for visiting attractions, enjoying the outdoors, and experiencing the local culture without the interruption of heavy rains.

This period, particularly from December to February, is considered the cooler part of the dry season and is often the peak tourist season.

The wet season typically spans from May to October. During these months, rainfall is more frequent, often in the form of heavy afternoon showers or thunderstorms. While this season might deter some travelers, it also has its advantages. The landscape becomes lusher and greener, and you’ll often find fewer crowds at popular spots. Prices for accommodation and flights might also be lower during the off-peak season.

For travelers who don't mind occasional rain and are looking for a more tranquil experience and potentially better deals, the wet season can still be a rewarding time to visit Talisay. However, it’s always wise to check weather forecasts before and during your trip, especially if you plan on engaging in water activities.

For most Filipino travelers aiming for the best balance of good weather and enjoyable activities, the dry season, specifically from November to May, is generally recommended. This period offers the highest probability of sunny days, perfect for exploring the natural beauty of Batangas, including Taal Lake. While it can be warmer during the months of March to May, the consistent sunshine makes it a popular choice.

If you prefer fewer crowds and don't mind the possibility of rain, the shoulder months of November and May can offer a good compromise.

Food and Dining Near Talisay — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Batangas is renowned for its culinary contributions to Filipino cuisine, and Talisay offers a gateway to these flavors. One dish you absolutely must try is **Batangas Lomi**. Unlike the thinner versions found elsewhere, Batangas Lomi is known for its thick, rich, and hearty broth, loaded with generous amounts of noodles, pork, liver, and other ingredients, often topped with a raw egg that cooks in the hot soup. It’s a comforting and filling meal, perfect after a day of exploring.

Look for local eateries in Talisay that specialize in Lomi; they are usually easy to spot by the steam rising from their bubbling pots.

Another local specialty is **Bulalo**. While often associated with Tagaytay, Batangas is also a prime location for this iconic soup. Bulalo is a light-colored soup made by simmering beef shanks and bone marrow for hours until the collagen and marrow dissolve into the broth. It’s typically served with vegetables like corn on the cob, cabbage, and pechay. The rich, savory flavor of the broth and the tender, fall-off-the-bone meat make it a truly satisfying dish.

Many restaurants in Talisay and along the shores of Taal Lake offer excellent Bulalo.

For seafood lovers, given Talisay's proximity to Taal Lake, **Sinigang na Isda** (fish sour soup) is a must-try. Using fresh catch from the lake, this dish offers a tangy and savory broth, typically soured with tamarind, tomatoes, and other local vegetables. The freshness of the fish combined with the comforting sourness of the soup is a delightful experience. You can often find this dish in local carinderias and restaurants, showcasing the bounty of the lake.

Don't leave Batangas without trying **Goto Batangas**, a distinct version of the Filipino rice porridge (lugaw). While similar to other Goto preparations, the Batangas style often features a richer, more flavorful broth, sometimes incorporating beef or pork innards, and is typically seasoned with soy sauce, calamansi, and chili. It’s a hearty and flavorful dish, often enjoyed as a breakfast or late-night meal. Exploring these local culinary delights will give you a true taste of Batangas.

For your convenience and to enhance your travel experience in Talisay, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for finding your way around, locating restaurants, and identifying points of interest. unsatisfying due to: 1. I am trying to have a confirmation booking one day before the schedule but front desk told me just go to the club and have present my voucher. so I go there around 5 pm on the schedule date and my booking was not confirmed yet. 2. I booked for room good for 3 pax with breakfast. but upon taking breakfast we were not on the list and it needs to verify again and seems that records are not updated. anyhow they made an adjustment after our meal.

The view was great, however algae /algal blooms are prominent near the coast and that is an indication of pollution. I wonder how Club Balai dispose their wastes and should definitely not harm the environment. There was no telephone available in the room, but it's a good thing that the reception area is just a walk away. Toothbrush is also lacking and should go back and forth as it is only available upon request. I also got disappointed on the dirty (used!) towels in the bathroom. Stain and hair are so much evident. Only 1 keycard was also issued so I have to request for a duplicate as well. There is a limited selection of food as well but it's a good thing they were able to serve a complementary cake for my bf's birthday. I appreciate all the support of the staff to cater to my needs, and overall I think it is an awesome getaway experience, very accessible location too.

Nice ambiance, very relaxing but they only need to improve the cleanliness of the beach side, the shower heater and the wifi connection.

Okay place, relaxing. If you want to leave Manila for a provincial view, Club Balai Isabel is highly recommended. Staffs are friendly, Food is okay not super delicious but reasonably priced. The building is just old and the Elevator. The aircon in the Room wasn't too strong so I arranged for their staff. I suggest, they add front desk staff especially check in / check out hours so the queue doesn't last long. Overall, my rate is 4/5.

Water heater is not functioning, no WiFi and telephone inside the room. We also have to climb the stairs to be able to reach our room located on the 4th floor. The room is not so clean.

I rated the service low because the receptionist told me I can get the tickets for the Aquapark by the entrance. When we got there the guard told me to get it from the reception. They made me walk back that distance because of their MisCommunication. The property is large so that was nerving! Though they have ejeeps, Not all were running therefore time will be wasted waiting for those that are going around.

Needs improvement! Place is ok but not well maintained. No one answer on the contact numbers given on their social media account/official site. I kept calling them for 2 days just to get my booking confirmation. Finally talked to someone the same day of my booking. Geeez, the small balcony outside the room is disgusting. Dry leaves and moss all over the area. It seems like no one even bother to check the room before having their guest checked in. Lot of mosquitoes inside the room not to mention the curtains and broken drawers. WiFi is not Accessible. No toothbrush and toothpaste
