We had a very enjoyable stay at the resort. I wish there was a safety deposit box and a hair blower. Also the treehouse 2 that we stayed in doesn’t have warm water, it’s not working and the aircon is old and bit noisy. Other than that, everything is wonderful.

Your Travel Guide to Moalboal as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Moalboal from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers originating from Manila, the most efficient way to reach Moalboal is by air. You'll need to book a flight to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). Several airlines operate daily flights from Manila (MNL) to Cebu (CEB), with travel times averaging around 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but typically range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip if you manage to snag a good deal. Upon arrival at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, your journey to Moalboal will continue via land travel, as detailed below. Remember to book flight tickets well in advance, especially during peak travel seasons.

From Cebu City, reaching Moalboal is a straightforward bus journey. Head to the Cebu South Bus Terminal, which is accessible by taxi or public transport from anywhere in the city. Buses bound for Moalboal are frequent, usually departing every hour. The journey takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, covering a distance of about 90-100 kilometers. The bus fare is quite affordable, typically ranging from PHP 250 to PHP 400, depending on whether you choose an air-conditioned or non-air-conditioned bus.

For those coming from other major cities like Davao, you would first need to take a flight to Mactan-Cebu International Airport and then proceed with the bus journey from Cebu City.

Alternatively, if you prefer the flexibility of driving, you can rent a car in Cebu City or even drive your own vehicle. The route involves taking the national highway south from Cebu City towards Moalboal. The drive is scenic, passing through various towns and coastal areas. Estimated travel time is around 3 to 4 hours, similar to the bus. Toll fees are generally minimal on this route.

For those who prefer not to drive themselves, hiring a private van or car with a driver is also an option, offering more comfort and convenience, though at a higher cost, typically ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 4,000 for the one-way trip.

Best Time to Visit Moalboal

Moalboal experiences a tropical climate, characterized by warm temperatures year-round. The dry season, generally from November to May, is considered the peak tourist season. During these months, you can expect less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities like diving, snorkeling, island hopping, and exploring the waterfalls. The seas are typically calmer, offering excellent visibility for underwater exploration, particularly for the famous sardine runs. The weather is consistently sunny, perfect for beach lounging and enjoying the coastal scenery.

However, this peak season also means larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and tours.

The wet season, from June to October, sees more frequent rainfall. While this might deter some travelers, it also brings its own advantages. The landscape becomes lusher and greener, and the number of tourists decreases significantly, offering a more serene and intimate experience of Moalboal. Prices for accommodation and activities tend to be lower during this period, making it a great option for budget-conscious travelers or those who prefer a quieter atmosphere.

Despite the rain, showers are often brief and followed by sunshine, so outdoor activities are still very much possible. For those interested in marine life, the sardine runs are present year-round, though visibility might be slightly affected during heavier rains. For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, the shoulder months of November and May can be particularly appealing.

Food and Dining Near Moalboal — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Cebu, and Moalboal in particular, offers a culinary landscape that is both familiar and distinct for Filipino travelers. A must-try is **Kinilaw**, the Filipino version of ceviche. In Moalboal, you'll find fresh seafood, often tuna or tanigue (mackerel), "cooked" in vinegar, spiced with ginger, onions, chili, and sometimes calamansi. The tanginess of the vinegar cuts through the richness of the fish, creating a refreshing appetizer or light meal.

Look for local eateries or carinderias that serve freshly prepared kinilaw, often caught the same day.

Another local specialty that embodies the flavors of the region is **Sinugba**, which refers to anything grilled. This can range from pork belly (liempo) and chicken to fresh seafood like squid and fish. The smoky aroma and charred flavor from the grill are irresistible. Many restaurants in Moalboal offer sinugba platters, allowing you to sample a variety of grilled items.

Pair it with a side of puso (hanging rice) and a dipping sauce of soy sauce, vinegar, and calamansi for an authentic Filipino dining experience.

For those with a sweet tooth, **Halo-Halo** is a characteristic Filipino dessert that you should definitely seek out. While available nationwide, a local twist might incorporate regional fruits or ingredients. This shaved ice dessert is a delightful concoction of milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream, offering a symphony of textures and flavors. It’s the perfect way to cool down on a hot Moalboal afternoon.

You can find excellent halo-halo at local dessert shops and even some restaurants.

Don't leave Moalboal without trying **Dried Mangoes**, a famous Cebuano export. While you can buy them in many places, experiencing them fresh or in various forms, like mango shakes or incorporated into desserts, offers a different appreciation. The sweetness and slight tang of ripe mangoes are a taste of the tropics. Many souvenir shops and local markets will have these readily available, making them an easy and delicious treat to enjoy during your stay or to bring home.

The property is located on the ocean but the beach isn’t very nice. The rooms are old and outdated. The road on the way to the resort is horrible. All in all it’s NOT worth the price. One positive note, the staff is friendly and helpful.

My main concern was the breakfast. They served beef mushroom and chicken wings, which honestly didn’t feel appropriate for a morning meal. It would have been better if they offered the usual breakfast choices like bacon and sausage. On top of that, we couldn’t relax while eating because the staff were talking loudly nearby, and we could clearly hear their conversations. It didn’t feel like a peaceful or pleasant start to the day. We also ordered food and requested for it to be delivered to our room the Governor’s Suite which isn’t even far from the restaurant. To our surprise, we were charged a ₱300 delivery fee, which made no sense considering the distance and the fact that we were already paying almost ₱11, 000 per night for the room.

A hotel with a very poor condition. Garden is not well maintained, restaurant is terrible, no charm at all. Photos are not reflecting the reality at all. Absolute non-sense for the price the hotel is charging. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone. See my photos which reflect the reality. Restaurant is really bad and really expensive. Breakfast is as per in a 1-star hotel, definitely not the standard for the price paid. The tree-house room was supposed to be 94m2 - not sure where they found those square meters - the bedroom was less than 20m2 for sure. They probably count all the hidden spaces. The only positive point is the staff, which is very nice

Best hotel in Moalboal. Love that the beach is easily accessible and great for snorkeling. Saw some beautiful fishes and sea turtles.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the resort. I wish there was a safety deposit box and a hair blower. Also the treehouse 2 that we stayed in doesn’t have warm water, it’s not working and the aircon is old and bit noisy. Other than that, everything is wonderful.

Hesitant if the room was really cleaned prior to us occupying it because there were termite droppings from the wood in the ceiling that fell on the floor pillow/rag below.

Staff are helpful all full of hospitality. Toiletries provide convenience. Beach side is beautiful and quite. The road connects to the resort is unpaved and bumpy. It gets worse in raining day.

The road to the hotel was a disaster. Should pave the holes on the ground. Stayed at the treehouse hoping for a honeymoon vacay but regretted this decision immediately once we are inside. - The cupboard was old, when we tried to open the door, it feel out and almost cut my bf's toes. -Only provided 2 complimentary water bottles, so if need more water you'll have to go to the restaurant to get a pitcher of water How inconvenient. Why cant you just put a water dispenser in the room and replace it once empty. The hotel I stayed in Moalboal did this and didn't expected a hotel that I paid more to be worse than it. - Phone in the room was out of order. If we needed anything we had to walk to the reception or restaurant. How inconvenient. I told the reception about this and she replied. I know. Why don't you fix it?? - The shower room door lock is out of order. They left a bucket in the shower room and we were wondering what it was for and realized it was to use to block the door when you are showering. Fix the damn door lock!! It's a hotel, not your house. - We found a dead lizard in the toilet. - There was this party going on next door, loud music and a guy talking all day all night. Came here to relax but felt disturbed all day. - Provided only 2 instant coffee Some people don't drink coffee. Where's the tea - Food in restaurant was pretty decent. On the pricier side but we came to enjoy the hotel and service. Staff in the restaurant were the only ones who gave good service

Club serena is in a very secluded place, nice for some privacy and peaceful stay. Rooms very spacious, clean but are a little outdated, toilet is old but full of toiletries, it was kind of hard to flush. No wifi in the room but it is ok. The facility is huge and clean. You could tell the place is really pretty at its time. Swimming pool is huge and beach in front, staff are really nice. Food at the restaurant is nice and reasonably priced. Staff at restaurant are superb.
