We stayed at Commander suites de Boracay for 5 days and it was a great hotel, the rooms were a good size very clean, the pool was good but had limited space to lounge around, the location was great 2 minute walk to beach, the hotel staff were very polite but that's Filipinos in general, the restaurant served a decent breakfast and the menu and the food was top class. All in all a very pleasant stay and would stay there again.

The staff and hotel are amazing! Very clean and very new (some rooms were being painted while we were there). Not a far walk to the beach and boardwalk (shops and restaurants) which makes it quite convenient!! Only thing of bother was the rooster farm next door which had the roosters starting off between 3-4am everyday!! Great restaurants to hit on the beach are Aria and Epic...and Halomango for fresh fruit shakes!

Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach Boracay Island from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. Flights typically land at either Caticlan Airport (MPH) or Kalibo International Airport (KLO). From Manila, airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia offer numerous daily flights to Caticlan, with travel times around 1 hour and fares generally ranging from PHP 2,500 to PHP 6,000, depending on the season and booking time. You can book flight tickets easily through Traveloka.

If you fly into Kalibo, it's about a 1.5 to 2-hour bus or van ride to Caticlan Jetty Port. Bus fares from Kalibo to Caticlan range from PHP 200 to PHP 400. From Caticlan Jetty Port, a 15-minute boat ride will take you to Boracay Island's Cagban Port. The combined travel time from Manila to Boracay via Kalibo is longer but can sometimes be more budget-friendly.

For those preferring land travel, buses from Manila to Caticlan are available, though this is a significantly longer journey, typically taking 10-12 hours. Bus fares can range from PHP 1,000 to PHP 1,800. This option is best for travelers on a very tight budget who have ample time. Driving your own vehicle is also possible, involving a ferry crossing from Batangas to Caticlan, with associated fuel and toll costs.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

Boracay Island experiences two main seasons: the dry season (Amihan) from November to May, and the wet season (Habagat) from June to October. The dry season is generally considered the best time to visit, with sunny skies, calm seas, and lower humidity. This period, especially from November to April, offers ideal conditions for beach activities, water sports, and exploring the island.

The peak tourist season falls between December and February, when the weather is at its finest, but prices for accommodation and flights are also at their highest. For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or May. The wet season, while prone to occasional rain and stronger winds, can offer lower prices and a more relaxed atmosphere for those unfazed by the possibility of occasional showers.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Filipino cuisine is a highlight of any trip to the Philippines, and Boracay Island offers plenty of opportunities to savor local flavors. A must-try is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche, featuring fresh raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. You can find excellent Kinilaw at many beachfront restaurants, often prepared with the freshest catch of the day.

Another local favorite is La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup with pork, shrimp, and vegetables, originating from Iloilo. While not strictly a Boracay dish, its comforting warmth and savory broth make it a popular choice, especially on cooler evenings. Look for local eateries or carinderias that serve authentic versions.

Seafood lovers will rejoice at the chance to try grilled specialties. Freshly caught fish, squid, and prawns are often grilled to perfection and served with rice and various dipping sauces. D'Talipapa market, just a short distance from Commander Suites de Boracay, is the perfect place to select your seafood and have it cooked at a nearby restaurant. This interactive dining experience is highly recommended for Filipino travelers.

Don't leave Boracay without trying Halo-Halo, the ultimate Filipino dessert. This colorful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream is a refreshing treat on a hot day. Many cafes and restaurants across the island serve their own unique versions of this beloved dessert.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boracay Island

Boracay Island is known for its friendly locals and a generally relaxed atmosphere. While the island is a popular tourist destination, respecting local customs is important. Dress modestly when visiting religious sites like Iglesia Ni Cristo - Lokal ng Boracay. Always greet people with a smile and be polite in your interactions. The island operates on a cash basis for many smaller transactions, so carrying some cash is advisable.

Safety is paramount for any traveler. Boracay Island is generally safe, but it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying large amounts of cash. For any medical needs, the AMC Medical Clinic is conveniently located nearby. In case of emergencies, contact local authorities or your hotel's front desk for assistance.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is crucial for navigating the island. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Viber are widely used by Filipinos. If you plan on booking tours or activities on the go, the Traveloka app is indispensable for finding and booking attractions and accommodations.

Familiarize yourself with local transportation options. Tricycles are the primary mode of transport on the island, and fares are usually fixed for common routes. Always confirm the fare before starting your journey. Understanding these local nuances will help ensure a smoother and more enjoyable trip to Boracay Island.

The property is nice clean and staff is friendly but the road to walk to the beach is very ugly. There's a lot of potholes and this is the reason why i probably won't stay there again.

The hotel itself is clean, large rooms, amazing breakfast buffet, excellent customer service from the security team to the conceirge and the food service staff. Only downside is the entrance to the hotel. It’s muddy, flooded and smelly. I understand it’s not the hotel’s fault but the local government. The residents near the hotel are quite noisy and mostly fighting. Though the staff informed us that they are going to change the location of the entrance early next year. If that’s the case I do highly recommend this hotel.

I love tha hotel, facilities, food and amazing service from the security guard to the reception, breakfast and room service is always excellent. The only downside which I already informed the staff is the entrance to the location. The street is muddy, flooded and stinky which I understand it’s the local government’s responsibility. Location is a few minute walk to the beach but daily walk is a struggle. Hotel is gorgeous same thru with the rooms and amenities. Wifi is very good. Overall will definitely check in to this hotel given that the entrance is in a different spot as they were planning to remodel.

From arrival, Commander Suites made our stay in Boracay extremely pleasant. Their entire team are amazing and welcoming. The hotels location is perfect being in Station 2 and close to everything, including the beach! Our room was very comfortable with cable TV, great WiFi, hot showers and daily cleaning. Our room had a balcony overlooking the pool which was kept very clean. The fitness centre has enough equipment to keep you busy including cardiovascular machines, dumbbells, and kettlebells. Breakfast was delicious where we had a choice of continental, local and western options, as well as fresh fruit. Overall, our stay was 5 star and we could not recommend staying here more!
